Jay762
Have you uprated the fuel pump, make sure it can supply those beefed up injectors?
savage bulldogs
If your injectors are grey they'll be 380cc (good for 300 max) if their yellow they'll be 440 cc (good for 350 max) . if you do buy 440's make sure their the right phase or you'll need to buy phase adapters as well (about £40 from lateral/ carl davey) Phase 1 (v1/v2) Phase 1.5 (v3/v4) Phase 2 (v5 / v6) I'd add walbro fuel pump ,3 port boost solenoid (gives the mapper better control over the boost) a few new studs , a few new nuts and genuine subaru gaskets for the exhaust system as far as mapping goes what ecu have you got ? cos v4 and below need either a aftermarket ecu or daughter board to be mappable . drop simon @ jolly green monster a email he's a mobile mapper and will point you in the right direction
Scooby Pete
give Jolly Green Monster a call, he is mobile and he has mapped the vast majority of Sureis Scoobies as well as a lot of the top cars in the uk. http://www.jollygreenmonster.com/ Tel 07912 872581
bazza
ok guys thanx first i better locate ecu to see what i have not sure were it is but should find it and i dont want huge power gains 350 sounds great and i need a upgrade fuel pump ...all the gaskets are subaru parts on the engine and exhaust just waiting for my son to do rocker cover and couple of others he done some last weekend .... and i need a 3 port selonoid how much do you think these will cost me as need to make a plan if you like ..get all in place ready then fit when i am ready for remap.... just an idea on cost before remap
Tlag
3 port boost solenoid a are all over eBay for between 20 and 40. I still need one too. An up rated fuel, pump should be less than £100. The ecu is located under a plate in the passengers footwell. Peel back the carpet where the carpet starts to go up from the floor and you will see a metal plate. Under the plate is the ecu.
savage bulldogs
What year /model is it baz ? as it might already have a 3 port , if not thier only about £30 for a second hand classic one . It's not a 100% necessary at that level of tune but, have to be mapped in once fitted so probably getting the mapper to fit it on the day . ecu is located under the passengers feet ;-) Do you know if the cars been mapped before, fella
bazza
car is 1994 wrx. impreza....i dont no if car has been mapped before i wouldnt like to guess ...is there any way of telling ? i will look at ecu tomoz
stants
May be worth getting the code off the front off the ecu when you take a look save having to go back again at a later date, 1st thing simon asked me when i was enquiring about a remap was the version i have. Scooby Pete
You can't remap the early cars, the ECU is locked, only option is to replace the ECU with an Ekutec, Apexi, Gems etc or a Piggy back for the existing ECU. Speak to Jolly Green Monster He can give all the options and costs involved.
stants
Yeah he wanted to know which ecu i had to be able to get the right esl board for it :-) just need to find the cash now. He was the only person who got back to me promptly, and was happy to answer all my daft queations so i'll be using him when the time comes even if he is a little bit dearer just because of the service he's already given me
savage bulldogs
If you've got a boost gauge I think it should read 12psi (0.8bar ) so if it reads over 15 psi (1 bar ) id say it was probably mapped for higher boost .unless it has a manual boost controller or generic chip (mines chipped ecu) . Otherwise if your ecu looks factory on the outside it might have a esl daughter board . If you're confident enough you can unplug it and take the cover off then re fit it without any alarm issues.if it's esl'd It should look like this one I sold for £180 last year and + 1 for simon's mapping and service
BoozyDave
I got my fuel pump from here http://www.racespecperformance.com/index.php/performance-parts/engine/fuel-pumps.html I paid £75 for a walbro and it only lasted 2 year, also, I have heard loads of good reviews about the race spec ones
bazza
thats great help you guys i did not think i would get a big responce to my questions ...... thanx ..i wont remove the ecu as like stated could cause alarm problem i may get a new ecu fuel pump larger air intake thingy cant remember what my son said now but that anyway and bigger fuel injectors and he said we should go a little over 350 bhp but going to have to do some research or even bore you guys with my ideas to what i come up with so i can get feed back to see if im on the right track so to speak
bazza
ok email now sent to jollygreen monster see if he can tell me if i am on the right track and how much it will cost me to achieve around 400 + bhp im going to purchase the parts myself and once inplace make contact again with the green monster
BoozyDave
you're not gonna get 400bhp from a td05 or 440 injectors 350bhp in a classic will be a rapid car, don't go chasing figures and willy waving. timg has got a classic wagon with 330bhp and there's not much that will keep up with him if you do want 400bhp, it will be cheaper to sell yours and buy one that someone has already spent loads on if you want to do it yourself, not sure how strong your engine block/clutch/gearbox are on yours, but, £800+ for turbo, £200+ for injectors, £500+ for motherboard and mapping
Scooby Pete
Also will for a safe 400 prob want a closed deck block and forged con rods ect
Ash007ks
Just to Clarify, the V4 can been Flashed by open Source which can make good power. My classic is soon to be 350 ish Closed deck block TD05 3 inch turbo back STI TMIC Yellow Injectors Walbro 290 fuel pump Newage Pistons (not needed) and a slight bore and hone (not needed) Any more and its good bye to the gearbox.
bazza
OK thanx guys to confirm i got an email from green monster in his words Hi, firstly the ecu has no immobiliser or alarm in it. a proper 400hp requires and engine rebuild, a replacement gearbox, a bigger turbo, plus lots of other parts.. your better off heading for 330ish bhp which is safe on engine and gearbox. Requires either an esl daughter board at £640 or an after market ecu such as Alcatek in order to map the car. ThanksSimon so with the mods i have already can i achieve 330 bhp need a fuel pump and injectors then i think im ready oh and bigger throttle body and resinator delete under bonnet ..then.i assume £640.00 for ecu and mapping am i right lol
Jay762
that will be near as dammit - might be the odd hose which has gone a bit brittle and cant take it but that can be sorted quite easily
stants
Yep thats exactly what i've been quoted from him to do mine, Where abouts are you located ? He said may be cheaper if i went to him. Or may be worth putting feelers out for a couple of people to get together and get a group discount if available ?

stants
Yes he'll provide and fit the esl board and do a 'live map' for that price
bazza
Here's a picture of my ECU, is this standard or do I need to upgrade
savage bulldogs
Looks like a standard ecu but it's difficult to say with the cover on . you'll have to give simon your ecu code and he normally brings one with the same code with a daughter board already fitted and takes the standard one home . if you're fitting bigger injectors the car won't run very well as the fuelling will need rescaling , but you'll be able to drive off boost if needs be . My brvs v1 sti has pretty much the same mods and he's running 347 /340 , but he does have a quality fmic , gt spec headers and higher lift sti cams . as for performance it lights the tyres in 3rd and he broke 2 5 speeds and is now running a 6 speed ;-)
