Which turbos are a straight swap upgrade in the UK turbo. If there is such a thing?

Depends what you want

I got a vf28 cheap ( off sti 6 ) which I might sell soon

Vf 34 / 35 are good

Then you start getting serious ranges

straight swap as in the least mods ? if so just get a hybrid TD04 they are good for 320 and relatively cheap new and second hand.

straight swap as in unbolt mine and bolt a different one in the same place / way, I know there other mods to do, e.g the injectors etc

yeah, only reason i ended up doing mine is found the kid who had done the rebuild on it had mixed A+B pistons.

Now next question. I've been reading mixed stories about decats and remapping. Some say they ran it without map fine others saying don't put decat on unless getting a map

Now I have a decat down pipe turning up Thursday and I'm fitting Friday. I don't have the cash for a map so will it be fine or not?

No light on mine I must have a super cat in the up pipe lol I have a scan gauge that can clear codes but it will just come on again, my friend has a classic and doesn't get the light unless he cruises for a long time don't worry about it unless you're gonna have an mot before remapping

its on  :D drove it for 2 hour straight a 1am to Manchester airport yesterday and no warning lights came on
