If I'm looking for parts better to go by gc8 or e20k and make sure it's for a v4? I want to spruce up underneath the hood, any tips? Like changing colour of the pipes/lines etc... stants Posted October 19, 2014 Share Posted October 19, 2014 Technically a turbo timer isn't needed but they do give you the grin factor and can be good for warming the car up In winter. The wiring will be the same, if you buy one with a harness just make sure you get the correct year harness. What alarm do you have ? Some come with the freature it juat needs to be programmed in. stants Posted October 19, 2014 Share Posted October 19, 2014 I suffer from piston slap so I tend to warm the car up completly before I drive her, so I can't hear the psitons clattering around. I tend to sit in mine for 5-10 mins before driving so water and oil are just about right but as long as you dont spank it till it's warm you'll be ok. 5 mins at under 2.5k rpm gentle driving, Cooling down I normally drive off boost for the last couple of miles home then leave it stationary running for 30secs to a min. Subaru turbos are normally oil & water cooled so don't suffer the problems that oil only do, that necessitate a timer. At the end of the day it's prob a good thing to get used to doing so a turbo timer will do that for you if you cant be bothered to sit there and wait, personal preference really. You hit the nail on the head mate, like I say check what alarm you have as some of them have the ability to shut off after a pre determined time. I know people older than me that pay more than you on slower cars[emoji55] Long and short of it is to drive off boost untill water temp gauge is in the middle and to drive off boost for last mile or two, I leave mine running by the time I've got out of the car and sorted my stuff out of boot etc it's a minute and I just switch off. I want to keep it for as long as I can and keep it running sweet. Ahh I didn't realise that was cheap, and it's an import as well. Believe it or not I was well happy with that when they quoted me. There is a Shell garage just down the road from me which is handy. Will definitely get a loyalty card now lol Also I want to get the 3 gauges put in as only have boost ATM, what's a rough cost of that and are they easy to fit? You could buy two more of the same brand and save some money, or buy 3 new ones, Various places like scooby world do kits for 200 I think, how handy are you with electrical stuff ? Some of them daisy chain into each other so you only have to wire one into the car and that powers the other two, some need all three wiring separately. It's fairly easy but fiddly as depending on where you locate them access can be a ball ache Has it been mapped ? If so ask the previous owner which fuel it was done on, jap cars run on higher octane than here so vpower is the closest we get here. Don't bother buying cheap oil filters genuine subaru ones are about 9 quid frpm dealer maybe cheaper on line. Also worth checking if it's been undersealed and when, they don't salt the roads in japan so it's not as well protected underneath Diy kits are between 10 quid for a pot of the brush on stufg to 50quid for a big tub and spraying applicator. Was looking to get oil pressure, oil temp and water temp set up. It hasnt been mapped but am planning to in time. Previous owner said that about the oil filter too.
