  1. You will get different opinions on crankshaft. Some will say always do crank and others will say depends on inspection. Some well say just forge it but that all depends on budget and skills. Some here think nothing of rebuilding there engine but they also have a normal car and the place and tools. How bad and how long was the headgasket blow? Did the coolant get into the oil if so defo do crankshaft. If the crank lets go after HG then your just burning money. I guess your in the hands of the engine builder's recommendations. Hope it works out for you.
  2. Exhaust is not that tricky but i would take Stuartie advise.
  3. If staying standard as RossCosm says find one a breakers if time allows. If going aftermarket (for more power) then it gets expensive due to the map being needed. Need to plan this type of stuff but of course that not so easy sometimes. How comes it took all day to see some holes?
  4. Cold Air intake
  5. Well the money you have saved from not buying a CAI that would make no or little power difference. Exhaust parts can give you more hp and make the turbo spool quicker. Also sounds better too. Good luck
  6. I am hoping no news is good news and you are out blasting down the lanes enjoying it.
  7. If the port is not active then no it would not scan. It would do nothing.
  8. Check your fuses. The OBD port can share the same fuse as the cigarette lighter for example.
  9. TBH no idea but I bet it is just the reader.
  10. Bummer. I think Halfords will read them for a cost.
  11. Do you have an option to clear codes? I guess not if there aren't any. Is there any pending codes stored. These are codes that have been triggered but not enough to put the check engine light on?
  12. SCANNER!!!!!??????? I am all in now taking this journey with you. You must post back and any cure or these 200 replies are meaningless
  13. mines 16 now so she is just expensive and only the one. Taxi service now too. Sounds like you have multiple young ones ouch.
  14. This guy is getting great support only Microsoft could dream of.
  15. Pretty sure that's the heat shield with the hole in it. Salty roads do that. Not too bad for age. Wire brush and anti corrosion treatment all good.
  16. 2nd that. My 2.5 wrx is completely standard with just remap and panel air filter managed 270 on 97 ron worked out around £10 per bhp (from 230), good value in my eyes. BHP done properly is never cheap. All depends what your chasing. Sti nice if i could go back i should have coughed up the extra and bought an STI. 20/20 vision hindsight.
  17. How much is a induction kit? A map will give you more bang for the buck I would bet. I sure more knowlegable members will correct me if i am wrong.
  18. I presume so. I wait and see what you need to do to rid the check light. If it is a new cat then i replace it with something better and get mapped. Logistical nightmare if you only have one car like me.
  19. Waste of money in my opinion an induction kit unless your going for serious power. Standard Airbox is good for at least 300 bhp probably more if I am not mistaken. Each to there own though. Will make nice sound if nothing else.
  20. Not really it will need mapping with pipe or risk damage. See what happens first. First map is approx £400 then maps after approx £200. Well worth it. Every mod that adds performance needs a map.
  21. Exhausts should be ok. As Ross said don't worry too much if it is running fine. Wait for the code reader.
  22. I am not sure. I would probably go with sports cat if mine failed. 200 cell cat is £230 upwards depending on which brand. Fitting would not be that bad if your paying someone. Nah the fuel thing was just a wild guess, it should have learnt by now anyway. I remember fitting a lamda sensor once and the check light came on but went out after about 30 miles.
  23. No not really I just save some money as a "oh poo" fund. stupid censor software cannot swear. Fooking PC world we live in now. I might offend someone. God I sound like a grumpy old man.
  24. I waiting for my exhaust to go so I have an excuse to put a nice cat back on. My standard bar the back box. not helpful sorry
  25. Ok will have to wait for the reader. If i was run on lower octane before it may clear as you drive it as the ecu is learning. Have you disconnected the battery for any length of time? This will reset the ecu and it may just need to relearn. Kinder clutching at straws though.
