  1. as long as once it's on you leave it on and do external mods like turbo and injectors and so on, once the cam belt is removed you shouldn't use it again as even if it's only done 500 miles on the belt it's had time to stretch and releasing it then tensioning it again risks it failing
  2. i have a compressor and a load of air tools, makes a lot of things much easier, and once you have the compressor that's the expensive part out the way, the tools are dirt cheap, i also have a 2 foot breaker bar and a 2 foot scaffolding pole to slide over the bar if need be, and a torque wrench, although i rarely use the wrench, i use the gun then tighten a bit more with the bar
  3. i have been a die hard VW fan for as long as i can remember, i went on a subie rolling road day and the subie bite bit hard, very hard, the wife still has a golf but that's due to the miles she clocks up, it's a TDI so does good mpg's i however will never go back, all my future cars will be subies, so much fun it's unreal
  4. there is a replica version that was supplied on the subaru, it was a factory fit option to the '05 JDM STi imported by Iain Litchfield, it's a good copy and real carbon too, they are worth £150-£250, an original S202 will be £750+
  5. well gel too, love the sedan in these new models, the hatch is a stunning car but the sedan looks so much more
  6. it's a select mod from the imports, you can buy the bits off ebay but they are silly prices, i was going to make some from an old screen wash bottle and motor and some washer jets off the bonnet, mount them under the bumper where the number plate sits and spray onto the front mount intercooler that will be fitted when cash flow gets better
  7. i have some 130db air horns, i think the connections a bit dodgy, it sticks on sometimes :P after burner lights, some of my all time faves them, i wish the saloon lights fit on wagons, so much more available for the saloon :(
  8. Fair play mate, I'd be well chuffed with that, I have a couple of friends who do photography for car mags and a couple of friends that have had/have feature cars, never had a feature car myself so I'm quite jealous lol
  9. Oh Yeh it will be, about 7am I think is the legal time
  10. Ahhh I see, cheers for that, I like learning new info lol And Yeh sorry for the hijack, I'll shut up now lol
  11. Not a problem pal, he's over this way in Lancashire but if you need to buy owt I'm sure he'd post/courier it, failing that if he won't I don't mind going picking it/them up and posting to you
  12. Only ever seen them on the car, never seen one for sale, if I come across one I'll let you know
  13. Give Brian a call at CAMS, 07931 211871 he builds race and road impreza all day every day so will be able to advise better, he's a top bloke too
  14. I found too when looking in the past I've wanted a 120mm drop from them, TUV approved shocks are a maximum of 90mm yet the same brand non approved were cheaper but bigger drop obv With an impreza, due to the diff the exhaust tends to hang lower than most cars so slamming, unless you tweak the exhaust, isn't a viable option, 40-50 is usually more than enough on the impreza and 30-35 on 17's can look spot on, if it's going to be fixed then why not go for a full lowering kits, springs and dampers, this way you'll get stiffer than factory, no or little roll round the bends and if it's a damping adjustable set you can have it smooth most of the time too
  15. The wife's car is a 52 plate and is based on emissions for the tax and the V6 golf I had was the same as the subie as it was borderline but the next year on the R32's were £450 a year as it was emissions based, I thought it was all cars from March 2001 were emission based tax? Is it just a certain amount?
  16. My mates is on a switch for his, when he takes it on the strip he uses it or when he showing off he uses it, his sounds like the bit at the end but louder, which reminds me, will have to sort a video of my exhaust at some point, now if !Removed! the next door neighbours off I'mnot fitting the bung in the exhaust anymore so they is gonna be getting goooood viraaaations lol
  17. A vinyl wrap needs replacing about every 3-5 years, has to be washed a certain way and most of the ones I've seen done have started peeling after 8-10 months, also if going matte wrap the bodywork under it need to be smooth as otherwise it double the effect of the mark(s) it's not that much dearer for a full paint job that would last another 10+ years and body issues can be sorted and painted over
  18. anti lag and launch control can be mapped onto the ecu, launch control sounds awesome but will shred a 5speed gearbox quite easy
  19. bugger, must type quicker of find a pre typed guide lol
  20. welcome aboard fella, not a fan of fiat's but as a car in general they have some good points as for imprezas, the 2001+ models suffer from the tax rate based on emissions and iirc that's around £450 a year for tax, classics and early bugs are normal tax rates, if unsure when you find a car get the reg and check here for the tax rate, click vehicle enquiry on the left click next enter reg then choose vehicle make i.e. subaru click submit and it will tell you how much the tax is for that vehicle as with all subies (petrol) check for the big end knock, the turbo models need warming and cooling properly before driven hard, if they are taken to the redline too often they can get the knock, if cheap oil has been used they can get the knock, if not serviced regular they can get the knock, diffs need the oil changing too at set intervals so check this has been done as well as gearbox oil, if the cambelts been done make sure it was done with all the pulleys and tensioners too, this is over £200 just for the parts so a big saving if it's done right, panels are wafer thin so the usual dings and stuff are expected more so on the subies can't think of owt else right now but sure others will have stuff to post too
  21. i don't have any coilovers on my subie but have had one other cars and they have reanged in price, the major difference i have seen is the cheap ones blow the seals really easy, usually after 12-18 months, the cheap ones are Joms, hottuning, raceland, that kinda thing, with my old cars the cheap ones were around £180, the expensive ones more £600-£1000, ALL coilovers are prone to seizing if not looked after, even stainless steel ones, the cheaper ones have thin threads and cheap quality adjusters, when you try to unseize them the adjuster can break or the threads can strip, the better quality more expensive ones tend to be easier to unseize the cheap ones listed above are more than double that for imprezas even for the same brands are you going to be adjusting them every year? i used to have snow mode and normal mode, normal mode was 2" off the floor at the sills, snow mode was 4", to prevent seizing i used to fit high temp bearing grease on the threads then wrap with PTFE tape then insulation tape over that, the PTFE isn't sticky so no chance of gooey residue round the threads and the insulation tape just kept it there if you are buying to use on track as well as road then i would suggest in car adjustable ones, my mate paid £1500 for a second hand set that have little stalks coming out the parcel shelf, he can adjust the damp and rebound via said stalk, his were something silly like 185 ways adjustable i'll get some links for some sets these are just track use but you could use on road, would be quite harsh click these are adjustable damping so can me made softer easily for road use or stiffened for track click these are road use but would be good for the track as above damping adjustable click theres more on there as well as other places, the best things i have heard spoken about coilovers sets is Sapx KW variants Weitecs the way i gauge cheap and expensive like i say is the threads, this might sound weird so i'll try my best as you look at the threads they have a point to them on cheap ones, like a knife edge, and close together, decent quality ones have a flat edge to the threads and spaced a tad further apart as they are thicker, i don't have any examples to get you a picture i'm afraid, you'd think over the years i've tried to explain this i would have got photos at some point lol
  22. the bonnets will both fit the opposite cars same bonnets just one has holds the other doesn't, also if you get told it's an alloy bonnet on the turbo make sure you check with a magnet as my turbo bonnet is steel, i have been informed they are alloy on a turbo so it may be 50/50 some are some aren't could be the import ones are alloy and uk ones steel, either way, check first rather than pay over the odds on the say so of the seller
  23. is the new hatch shape impreza, wouldn't have thought it would do that so soon
  24. sender arms are known to seize in older cars or the float drop off but being such a new car it'd be unusual for it to be that, if you look under the back seats or under the boot carpet you should see at least one round or oval plate, unscrew that/them and in there is the sender pump and float thingy, they are sometimes secured with a plastic ring screwed over it or may be some other way on these cars i honestly don't know, if you undo whatever is holding it down an pull the pump up, you should be able to see the float arm, gently move it up with your finger or get a hook of some kind to do it, if it doesn't budge it's seized, otherwise check the wiring from that and around the plug to it and as said the fuse or fuses, maybe theres a relay for it, sorry to sound so vague but i've not messed with one of these imprezas so i'm just generalising
  25. yeh, forum flyers, get some cheap business cards made up from vista print, you can get free ones for new businesses starting up, not sure how many and i think you have to pay for postage but better than a kick in the teeth
