Yeh you only need a short blast to see if it boosts properly, once you done that you will know if it's the exhaust or not, don't let this get you down now, you at the point where most things have been renewed, your not far from a brand new car, just a thought but what about the lift pumps in the tank, if one has been damaged it could be that causing it to not run at speed/revs as it's only getting enough fuel to run slow

under bonnet insulation
Same as Dogma, removed mine when I got the car home

up pipe
That is odd, I have now read a bit more of the thread, you've covered most things, try taking the exhaust off at the turbo and go for a quick run, if it boosts ok it's obvious exhaust related, could be a baffle has collapsed somewhere that now restricting as Adam said but take the whole system off

Induction kits for imprezas
I can't see why it would do that, the bit your replacing is the filter, your swapping a small filter intake area for a bigger one, same pipe going to both turbo's

I haven't read the whole thread so Appologies if it's been said but have you checked the maf, I bought mine dirt cheap as the maf was faulty and caused the exact symptoms you have mentioned, also, is it a classic? Have you run the diagnostics for fault codes to see what the ecu is listing, it's unlikely the lights on for the manifold

Induction kits for imprezas
And get one that doesn't need oiling as the oil messes with the maf wire

hello from channel islands
Ahhh right, I didn't know you weren't in the UK, it won't ruin it as such but I'd advise to either get it remapped to have the lambda/oxygen sensor deleted or get a lambda spacer off eBay and fit that, that way it will read like the cat is still there and not overfuel

Induction kits for imprezas
Apexi make one of the best filters for the scoob, not sure if they do a full kit, the typhoon kit from pipercross I think it is, that's a full kit and is supposed to be very good indeed

hello from channel islands
I know people that have removed the internals by cutting the top of the cat open and then welding back up, this makes it look the biz for mot and stops the restriction in flow but still plays havoc with the lambda and still fails the emissions, you should also be aware that the internals of a cat contains platinum so if you do it keep the internals and go to a scrap yard As for sound, it affects it the way a decat would really, as with a decat you get the odd pop and bang from the exhaust

A STRANGE NOISE
Take a pic of the old belt and where it goes before removing, the belt has to line up in specific places on the wheels, it's not like a normal belt that just goes on, look at the guide on here, might make you less aprehensive
-
A STRANGE NOISE
Yeh as said full kit is best and safest option, it's like other cars only the belts longer and goes round more wheels lol, it looks daunting but is straight forward enough

Rollamite's 96 Impreza Sport Project
Thatcam cover pic iisn't clear enough, best thing to look at is the cam cover, on the left and the right side an 8v has one circular part each end, 16v has 2 each end That pipe fits on the throttle body, the bit with the big rectangular box under the window, remove box fit pipe and voila

A STRANGE NOISE
Just pay the extra and do the idlers and tensioner, it's worth it in the long run, there's a guide on here somewhere

hello from channel islands
no worries pal, some things aren't everybody's cup of tea, thats what make us all individuals ;)

hello from channel islands
yeh, people say the resonator box (thats the one in the wing area) is needed for the car t run right, mines not got one and most people that fit the aftermarket cone filters don't have one and mine and theirs all seem to run fine, all i can suggest is take it off and try it for yourself

stainless exhausts
have a look around for random small back street garages that will do the work, i've found garages in the past that take on work on custom exhausts that powerflow want mega bucks for, one example was when i put a V6 in a mk2 golf, i went to powerflow for a custom system and they quoted nearly £300, i found a small back street garage that builds rally landrovers and he did it for £90 and spent a full day fitting and removing getting it mm perfect

Exhaust rattles
glad i could help bud i wave when i see another scoob but only 40% wave back, most give the gormless "who the fook is that" look, i find if i'm wearing my sunday outfits they always wave back, blonde wig and low cut dress does that lol

Meet up and BBQ
i'd be up for this if a. i wasn't skint b. it wasn't 3 hours away and c. the wifes on call most of the time and it's too far for rushing back in an emergency, maybe next year when she's qualified she can book some hols and we can venture down, we have a 15x15 foot bouncy castle but again too far to bring it otherwise i'd happily lend it out

What aftermarket exhaust are you running?????
i've seen the diverters used on a few cars, theres an M5 on the net somewhere with one and it's a good tool to have, gets you past the mot regs of emmisions and noise and also if you track the car theres the added bonus of getting past noise regs but then being able to release the extra gas for more power my idea will restrict flow but it's only going to be used for warming up in the mornings so i don't anoy the neighbours and for motorway use so i can hear things when i get to my destination, it will restrict the flow only as much as a baffle insert would and wouldn't be used at times of hard acceleration, but as it's easily opened from in the car the option to open when needed means no need to get out the car and remove the baffle fromt the rear box

hello from channel islands
no worries bud, hope it helps
-
What aftermarket exhaust are you running?????
I wasn't splitting the flow I was gonna shave a couple of mm off the butterfly so the gas can get round, just not all of it
-
Exhaust rattles
Limits of the car are always adhered to lol If ever you want to remove the heatshields permanently you can replace them with heat wrap

I will give £20 to the last person to post on this thread
It was worth a shot :-P
