  1. It’s been into the dealers, they said don’t worry about it it’s fine, they have no instructions about preserving the engine or anything. Though I’ve naturally I’ve taken it steady because the noise isn’t sorted my right with me. I’m not putting in any oils etc because it’s under warranty and I don’t want to give them an excuse not to honour the warranty.
  2. No it’s much more of a rattle, it literally sounds like there’s something bouncing around inside one of the cylinders. But it’s somewhere between s rattle and a knock. If im parked and rev the engine, it didn’t do it, if put my foot down hard it doesn’t do it, if I drive along a 40mph road normally, bucket of spanners. As I say last time I heard this a little while later it dropped a valve. hopefully it is just a valve followed bearing or something causing it to rattle. Much worse when it’s cold too. my fear is it won’t make it to Monday, there’s nothing on the internet about this so guess I got unlucky
  3. Well I drove mine this morning and it sounds like someone has emptied a bag of just an bolts into the engine, dealer still insists it’s nothing serious and it’s safe to drive as they think it’s outside of the block so not pistons, crank etc. They are just saying it’s rattling. My worry is I had a petrol engine make this noise about 30 seconds before it dropped a valve into the cylinder, piston shoved the valve head through the water jacket, filled the cylinder full of water and hydraulicked the head, that was then end of that engine. just hoping now it’ll survive until Monday when I can leave it with them.
  4. They say cam follower is most likely. That said they had to replace a BRZ engine the other week that had a crank knock, only done 18,000 miles. I guess there’s always going to be a few that have an issue, but the don’t generally break to be fair. It’s under warranty so I’m not too worried just st now.
  5. Update for anyone who’s interested, currently it’s suspected to be a cam lifter rattling. Not going to be sure until they’ve had it in. Will see what happens in a weeks time.
  6. Well, I’ve been driving my car now for 60k and the last week or so I’ve noticed that there’s a slight knock coming from the engine, only dies it under light load so gentle accelerating up to about 2200rpm is quite noticeable but not at when off the throttle or when at full or heavy throttle. Not feeling too comfortable about the outcome of this, knocking noises from a modern diesel can’t be a good thing!! car is in tomorrow to get checked out.
  7. I’ve never used additives, I was always advised to just use branded fuels not supermarket fuels. This was the advice I also got from an AA guy who said he attends 10-15 breakdowns a week for the “diesel bug” this is a algae or fungal growth caused by the biodiesel in diesel and any water in your tank. If it is diesel bug, which if the car has stood for ages I’d s possibility then you’d be looking to either stand the car drained for three months so it dries out and the growth dies or steam clean the fuel tank and replace fuel lines etc. There are apparently some cleaners you can use but I’ve no knowledge about how they would work. Branded fuels, Esso, Shell, BP etc all have additional additives to reduce this bio growth. So whilst all these people will tell you that Shell have the same fuel as say Morrison’s they won’t have the same additives as these are added at the point they fill the tanker. the same AA guy also said that using optimax or ultimate or whatever as a regular fuel isn’t worth it but a tank of it every 5-6 tanks will help keep your engine clean because of the additional additives in it. i personally wouldn’t recommend putting other additives in. The modern Diesel engines are pretty sensitive to fuel. It’s not like the old days where you could shove chip fat in a diesel and it’d run. Never run your tank to near empty, you can drag and sludge up, only use quality branded fuels, consider the odd tank of “super” diesel. Mad gof DPG I force a regen every other week bug taking the car on a motorway that doesn’t get too clogged with traffic, sticking it in 3rd gear at about 60mph for 20-15mins. Basically 2-2.5k rpm and over 37mph will do it, but you need to maintain a constant speed if possible. That will force a regen of you DPG. Ideal if you do quite s bit of short hops or town driving. There are also companies that can do a deep clean on a clogged filter, costs around £100, might be worth looking at that instead of replacement?
  8. Sorry, I don’t have the sat nav so I can’t help you
  9. The badges I got from here. The guys name is Scott Degg He charged me £12 inc postage a year or so ago. I just gave him the measurement across the length and height. Just don’t forget the front and rear badges are different sizes. there were very easy to put on, have stayed put for a good year and still seem fine, I just stuck them over the existing original badges after I had plastidipped everything. theyre a nice gel material do don’t look like stick ins at all, you can have any colour combination you like. They arrived within a week or so, I had really good service from him. His email address is [email protected] just mention you've got his details from Colin Price who’s from the Subaru club and I had some last year of so. DC
  10. It was a guy on eBay, I’ll have to see if I can find him again

Well mine is also a bit rattly lately so I might speak to the dealer as the ticking noise you refer to sounds familiar

I don't think it has a timing chain? I thought it was a belt

Only when cold? we have two and both do it when they're cold while the oil warms up. Shouldn't do it when warm though and it shouldn't sound like a knock

I know people are saying the geolanders are too expensive but personally I found them very good, I'm on my second set, they handle pretty good, fuel economy is good, road noise is not perhaps the best, but they were faultless in the snow and was a good amount of snow we had a couple of years ago. Tackled a steep hill with ease no one else but landrovers could get up, a Porsche Cayenne turbo who followed me up didn't make it. i certainly wouldn't change the make of the tyre im using to save £3 a corner. I mean fair enough if you're saving £15-20 a corner. But I only paid £440 for a full set last time around, and that included fitting and valves and they were at the tyre centre the next day.
  15. I'd get in touch with Subaru, under the new Consumer Rights Act you have a warranty of up to 6 years on non-consumable components of a car as I understand. clearly this is a fault that has caused this so you could still get this repaired under the consumer rights act, even if your warranty has expired.
  16. Nice, though Looking at that white one, I am glad I blacked the chrome and had the stone chip guard, looks a bit more aggressive. Oh, and you could have reversed yours in to make it look better 😂
  17. Don't know why that would be, though they would have done a firmware update so maybe it was removed in that update. i don't recall seeing an option for it to be fair
  18. I do think there is something that needs to be reset whenyou carry out an oil change, probably worth calling a dealer. just make sure whatever oil you use doesn't invalidate your warranty or anything silly. I think mine is on 0/30
  19. There was a recall for all XVs before the 2014 model, there was talk of wires rubbing on the steering column. You should have been notified at one of your services because it's been known for a while now. the steering column one is apparently quite deep into the dash rather than just under the knees as you might think. It's a good hour to install the foam inserts they secure to prevent the chafing as my wife had hers done. you shouldn't have wiring loom failures after 68k, I assume it's still in warranty? not heard of any other recalls.

Usually when the outside of a tyre wears more quickly it means they're under inflated. Either that or the tracking needs looking at. either that or your just driving like a Hoon!!
  21. The engine hasn't changed on the petrol between those years as I understand so there shouldn't be a difference really.
  22. I have 2014 model XV Diesel SE, same as yours. 1st to 2nd can be a bit lumpy when under heavy throttle but 3rd in both mine and my wife's is fine and pretty smooth. Certainly not hard to get in gear. if you can't get it in gear I'd say leave alone as for the 4th service as stated above you can expect to pay upwards of £350 for that service and around £240 for the interim services.
  23. It's been run on shell premium. And it's a new car, only done 4k so airfiler should be fine. I think it's just the newer Euro engine.
  24. So my wife had a newer XV in March, with the latest engine. Her car drives completely different to my 2014 XV. When pulling away it very easily stalls unless you give it some revs. Seems the newer engines are less torquey at the very low end than the older diesels. Just thought I'd post this up as a bit of info
  25. I don't do many mikes in mine at the minute but I take it on the motorway, plonk it at 65mph in whatever gear allows me about 2500 rpm stick it on cruise and sit for 10-15 mins. Mechanic says that doing this will force a regents cycle. So I do it once a week, never had a problem with dpf except when I was unlucky and I had 3 failed regens in a row, it throws up a warning light if you happen to halt the regen alf way by braking or something like that.
