  1. Belt tensioners can cause a knock/rattle sometimes... For half an hours work it's worth a check!
  2. Ooh, unlucky mate. If you fancy getting your hands dirty, you can always give refurbing your calipers yourself a shot? http://www.uklegacy.com/forums/index.php/topic/138910-refurbing-your-brake-caliper/#entry732170 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Welcome! You can never be disappointed with a legacy.
  4. That's a bit of a pain isn't it? Could sourcing another engine and getting it swapped work out cheaper? Hope you get your money back!
  5. It's sort of sad really... I mean, that car has had under a year's worth of driving in it's entire life. The next person that buys it at that price is just going to store it away and only bring it out every now and then. The likelihood of anyone else ever seeing it in person is very slim- it may as well be sorn. It almost defeats the object of having it... Someone once said to me about doing things to keep the mileage of your car is a bit like not having s*x with your girlfriend to keep her good for the next bloke. I've sort of gone by that ever since.
  6. Got home from work to find my stepdad had taken one of the heads off the old block. I was then shown the almost comical amount of movement in the old rod bearing, that made the piston lift a good 5mm out the top of the bore on no.3 cylinder. I was then given the list of tools I needed to replace (as the head studs were pretty stuck in there) in order to get the other side off. On the upside, by eye, they heads look pretty good. We've also got a flat bar we can do a preliminary check with, before I can get some more money together to get them off to be checked, skimmed, if necessary and cleaned. Thank god it's pay day tomorrow!
  7. There's a gen 2 GT on the Facebook subaru buy and sell page. A little overpriced imo, but it's been up for a while so you might be able to knock the price down a bit Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I think I'd be too scared to drive it anywhere- I'm terrible for curbing my alloys, have seagulls all around here that seem to target my car and the local average driver age is about 94. It wouldn't stay that pristine for long
  9. Could also be the water pump or a blocked rad or radiator cap. What model do you have? Is the radiator warm all over when it overheats? Does the overflow bottle fill up? Does it overheat when left idling?
  10. That red is certainly eye catching isn't it? Although the silver GT saloon on there is very nice too. When do you think you'll give in and buy one?
  11. Anyone got one of these kicking about? I'm looking at doing a parallel fuel rail set up and need one to make it work properly
  12. Anything catch your eye?
  13. Picked up the car from the garage, complete with 12 months MOT. Also picked up my new short block and had a chat about parallel fuel set ups. I really like the idea, so that'll be happening along with the rebuild- I've just got to keep my eyes peeled for a new fuel pressure regulator at a good price and maybe some nice blue rails to go with it...
  14. And yes, I imagine it's open deck. But people run pretty good power through them, as you say, with no issues.
  15. I believe they're centre, however it can be converted to rear to suit (as far as I'm aware anyway)
  16. Alright, as I say, we'll get it apart and make sure that nothing too disastrous has happened. As you're looking to hone it and put oversized pistons in, I can't see there'll be any issues :D
  17. Looking forward to seeing this. I'm absolutely fascinated with engine builds! Not sure if you've seen it yet, but I replied to your earlier post about this. I have a completely useless ej20 block sat in my shed if it could be any use to you?
  18. I don't know if it's any use to you... but I've now got a completely useless ej20 block sat in my shed. It'll most likely need a bit of machining, but should still save you a few quid overall. It'll probably be getting be getting split over the next week or so, just so we can find out exactly what went wrong, so we'll also be able to make sure nothing too disastrous has happened.
  19. That's the one, someone got a proper bargain there. Gen 2 is the nicest in my opinion, I'd have loved a white one, but it would've been a nightmare to keep clean. Is that the one in the midlands somewhere? If so, it's been up for a while and the price has crept up. I was debating between that one and mine when I bought it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Are they particularly hard to fit? I've been thinking about getting a few bits like that... Obviously they'll have to wait now. Be good to know how much difference they actually make, my steering always feels a bit loose, if that makes sense?
  21. http://www.gumtree.com/p/subaru/330bhp-monster-scooby/1124046636 That's the one. £950- I've spent more than that on getting mine running again over the past couple of months
  22. There was a blue GT on gumtree last week- it was dirt cheap, about £995 I think. I believe there was a gtb on the UKLegacy forum too. Nice choice with a gen2 but sadly they're getting thin on the ground now with rust and quite a few of them having bottom end failure. Welcome to the forum, really nice bunch on here. If you've got any pictures of your old cars, they're always welcome too.
  23. That'll have to come much further down the line. I'm currently reading into compression ratios and the like... Wish I hadn't started that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. In all honesty, I'm actually pretty excited about it all . If I wasn't spending all my money fixing the car, I'd only be spending money improving it. Although I can't take all the credit, my stepdad is the true mechanic, I just throw the money at it, but I've had a pretty steep learning curve recently. And without the forum we probably wouldn't haven't been able to get to the point we have. Despite all the agro I probably love the car even more for it! I still wouldn't change it for anything... Even a working one!
  25. It failed the MOT- nothing too major, a rear ARB link had snapped, which is probably what was causing my interesting steering and a CV boot had split. What I hadn't bargained on was the garage blokey coming back from the MOT centre saying "Sounds like your big end's gone on number 3 mate" This was most likely caused, as Savage said, by the overheating from the water pump not working. I'm now going to be the proud owner of an STI ej20 short block, from one of his old rally cars that ended up split in half by a tree, to pop my heads on to over the next few weeks. Which, as I'm sure you know, has forged pistons and is capable of holding up to 350bhp (Much more than my car will ever make) so I'll have a nice bit of cushioning and hopefully won't destroy another bearing. Bit of a pain, but onwards and upwards, as they say! Another kick in the goolies and a lot more money thrown at it, but I'm secretly quite excited by it all.
