  1. Little trick I learnt today (I've never set timing myself though) is to use little G/C clamps or bulldog clips as you go round to keep the tension Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Does it overheat after it reaches normal operating temperature? The water pump might be worth a check...
  3. It's alive!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Engine's pretty much back in place- it turned out to be the plate under the flywheel had bent up and was snagging on the back of the clutch. Could've been fixed in about 10 minutes. Oh well... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Welcome, nice looking car- I used to have those wheels, the colour is great.
  6. If it's not been running for a while the majority of oil will have worked its way back into the sump (it takes about 25 minutes or so) it'll be worth having a little bucket underneath though and a couple of rags handy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Welcome to the club! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. It's could be worse- the bottom end was quiet when it was turned over though. Getting it running for Japshow is easy, getting it running for the re-map on Wednesday might be a bit more tricky! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Engine in place, hooked up, turn the key... *tink tink tink* Valves don't sound great. Lucky we've got a spare on in the shed to swap over tomorrow Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Oh, that's a pain. It's doable- have a read through SavageBulldog's project thread. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Welcome! Plenty of knowledge in here, you've definitely come to the right place
  12. I said they should open it up for hill climb. Apparently it would undermine the whole point of the place Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. No chance of that on here! Welcome to the club Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I'll be keeping an eye on this... Best of luck!
  15. Stand pass arrived yesterday, cheers Gambit Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. It's in place, the weather wasn't with me on Monday so couldn't get anything much done. Hopefully a big push on Sunday and Monday if needed and everything will be ready for next week!
  17. Not a clue- it'll be a nice surprise when I get there!
  18. As far as I'm aware that's what it is anyway... Mines a 96. It was a previous owner that had all that done, however I'm going up there next Wednesday for the map tweek. Hopefully I'll come back with a little more understanding of it all!
  19. The Subaru diesels aren't particularly known for their reliability though are they? Plus the emissions must be low in a small turbo engine, which you need to even put it on the market in Europe and America. I think this could well be the future replacement for the legacy :(
  20. I'd just discovered mine had broken again- I've only done about 100 miles in mine since May :(.
  21. Mine has a SimTek ECU from Bob Rawle- to be honest, the whole mapping/ECU thing is a bit beyond me- but as far as I can figure it out it's the easiest way to go about it (although I may be wrong). Turbo upgrade has been done, but I think you need some seriously deep pockets- you have to change various parts of the exhaust to get the exhaust gas flowing better to spoil them up properly as well as work to various valves and solenoids in the car. As stants suggested, a single turbo conversion could be the way forward.
  22. No, I spent a good half an hour pointing out the Subarus in the car park when we went Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Yeah, that's the sort of thing. I don't know if it's possible, you'd have to find a way of blanking off the oil feed etc for the turbo. Whether valve and piston clearance would be an issue is something you'd have to research. Someone asked a very similar question about improving their Impreza yesterday and somebody suggested more aggressive cams- this might be an easier option. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Welcome to the club. Getting the engine breathing better (performance air filter, less restrictive exhaust) should gain you a little pit of power. Personally, I'd say sorting out the handling is a better way to spend your money, having more confidence in your braking and steering will make the car feel much faster. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. It depends how much you want to spend really. Maybe a port and polish of your heads would gain you something? I wouldn't say there's any point in having forged rods and Pistons etc put in. Could be a good idea to get the block apart completely and put some ACL (or something similar) bearings in the bottom end- it's one less thing to worry about in the future. I've been looking into parallel fuel set ups- can be made with your existing rails or you can buy shiny bits that bolt on instead. It's also a good chance to get everything cleaned up and looking pretty again- painting your inlet manifold and rocker covers, stuff like that? Speaking of rocker covers- get proper Subaru gaskets, they're not that much more expensive and will save you having to have the job done again! Hope this helps/makes sense! Best of luck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
