Thanks all for the warm welcome :-) My main problem is i think my bottom end is knocking. Not entirely sure though. I am fairly handy with a spanner so to speak but wasn't sure on whether or not to tackle the crank change myself? Any input would be much appreciated

Scoobydoo dan. Il certainly post pics of the project. Its just aswell theres no sound in photos as im sure therel be a few choice words!

Cheers savage bulldogs. Iv never done anything with bottom end side of an engine but iv done heads etc. I know its going to be a costly do. Im hoping i can get my crank machined as it only knocks when its warm. I bought it from a friend who stopped driving it as soon as he heard it and hes quite penile to say the least. Is iy something i can do without specialist tools or timing equipment?

Cheers

The early v1 sti engine I rebuilt had metal cam pulleys so I just clamped them together to keep them in position when working on the timing ,however when I tried the same method on the v3 uk plastic cam pulleys they snapped [emoji57]

So you'll probably need to buy a "cam locking " tool as the inlet and exhaust valves can bend , as they can hit each other if the cams are allowed to turn independently.

Most people shy away from regrinding scooby cranks and only reuse them if they are unworn or only need a light polish ,although the likes of acl do sell over sized shells .

Now im insure on what route to take. Originally i was going to put a new crank in. I take it thats the safest option. A friend of mine has the timing tools iv just learnt so that should make that side easier. I really want to get my baby on the road. Its parked on the drive at the moment and its so fruatrating to not be able to get in and go!

Hi all. Finally got the engine out this weekend and got it stripped down. It was definately the right call. The big end bearings have certainly seen better days, im no expert but can say they are f***d!

Can anyone tell me how to post photos on here?

If on a pc mate you will need to use something like photo bucket using their direct link by copying it. Then on here the tree thing above the reply box paste the link there the forum does the rest. If on the phone. I'm not sure myself lol since the update to tapatalk. [emoji15]

For tapatalk you hit the button on the left of the screen, circle with an up arrow. Select the paperclip and find the picture you want to upload. One issue I've found is that tapatalk or the forum restricts the size of the photo you can post. So far none of the pictures I've taken have been small enough. I have to crop them down.
