WelshBlob
Hi all, Been lurking on here for a while now but never got round to signing up. Not ideal that this is my first post but hey ho. Small intro. Had my '03 blob for nearly a year after getting rid of my z4m coupe. Wasn't particularly looking for a Subaru but saw one at a garage so thought i'd have a gander. Had a test drive and then popped down a deposit. She is coming up to 34500 miles on the clock and has a whole host of upgrades including a td05 20g turbo, gt spec wrapped headers, blitz 3" decat exhaust, fmic, induction kit, recirc dv, walbro fuel pump and a load of whiteline goodies underneath. May have missed a few things, the list was massive. Currently running around 380bhp thanks to Andy Forrest. So the problem. From cold start, she runs fine and dandy. When warmed up and i stop somewhere, restart and the revs fluctuate and then finally it stalls. Leave it 10 mins and she starts fine and you can drive away. Seems to be worse in this warmer weather. I've replaced the MAF and tried unplugging the lambda sensor when warm to no avail. Had it on 2 diagnostic machines both of which pulled up no codes. Even cleaned all plugs and sockets in engine bay and visually checked pretty much every wire. So here i am hoping and wishing that someone may have some ideas. Pretty calm when it cars but this one is really testing me Which is a shame as it's a great car otherwise. It's no doubt a small niggly thing which makes it worse. Sandals
Welcome to the club! You still running the standard 5 speed? Pushing the 5 speed pretty hard! I would give the Idle control valve a clean... make sure to mark the screws so that they are lined up when you tighten them back down, otherwise it might screw up your idle. Also buy a new gasket for it before removing it... only a few quid

Would it be temp related though?
WelshBlob
Must add that it has switchable maps and the problem repeats its self in the lower.
Sandals
You've already ruled out a few of the usual suspects so I would def give it a clean anyway, won't do any harm and would be another thing to tick off the list!
Mr B
Ideally want a scanner on it looking at live data while it happening . coolant sensor might be worth a look as could be heat effected lambda values while on start/stall and after 10 minutes could be useful data idle valve certainly worth a clean, possibly it gets sticky and trouble moving freely after first hot start but 10 minutes cools it off enough ! WelshBlob
Had live data looked at today by someone who only deals with subarus. Nothing out of the ordinary. He certainly thinks its electrical though. Coolant sensor being changed on Monday as the temp gauge isn't where it should be when warm. Failing that, all signs are pointing to the ecu
Mr B
ecu would be my last choice with those symptoms .
WelshBlob
It is indeed but apart from the coolant sensor, pretty much everything else has been ruled out by 2 garages. If the sensor doesn't fix it, we're trying to get Steve Simpson down to have a look before i go any further.
Tidgy
try the throttle position sensor, when it went in my type R sometimes you'd fire it up and it would be fine, other times it would be all over the shop. Also worth checking the idle control valve as well, might be worth seeing if you can borrow one to try, would at least rule it out. you may not get codes when a sensor drops as it may not know its failed. GeoffLeggy
Did you clean the ICV in the end?

I'm going to get the garage to do it Monday when i get the coolant sensor done. The subaru specialist said i'd be wasting my time but may as well do it. Fingers crossed one of these sorts it, i'm sick of driving my olds 330d. Though my neighbors are probably happier at 5am lol

mfnick
Know it sounds silly and probably checked it but are all your front mount pipes properly sealed and connected? I had a similar issue and found one of the silicone connecting pipes was very slightly loose letting a small air leak through. Not much at all but enough to cause these same symptoms. I imagine it’s already been checked, especially if you’ve been to a couple of garages already but worth pointing out in case. Check especially where it goes into the wing on yours.
