stants
If this link works http://www.enduringsolutions.com/ECUGuide.pdf should see a list of compatable ecu's
Ash007ks
GR performance in Rotherham did bugeye for £300 ponies and i had pops bangs and flames.
stants
Is yours open source ? It's the cost of the board thats bunping the price up for us :-(
bazza
so is this a standard ecu ? or do i have to remove the case to expose what ? or take picture of inside...dont no what open source is
stants
I'd leave it and wait, maybe connect a boost gauge see what your pulling. Chances are you'll want one after the remap anyway, Like sav says if your seeing normal boost there it's pretty good guess the ecu's stock. Sorry bazza, the open source question was to ash as he as a later car. Its mapping software thats not applicable to our cars
savage bulldogs
It's defo a subaru one but I don't know if it's the factory one for your year (have a Google ) if you're confident that you won't short anything out, unplug your ecu take the case of and if it's got a esl board(mapable) it will look exactly like the one in my previous post with the pic in of the esl'd ecu . gems, simtec, apexi ecu's will say it on the outside of the ecu ;-)
Scooby Pete
As far as I am aware the bugeye has a re mappable ECU and if previous owner had already had it mapped you won't have to pay for the licence as that's been paid for already. £300 sounds about right for just a mapping session without paying for the licence. If I want to remap my 08STI I have to pay £500 for the licence, as it's not been done before except by dealer who has the codes anyway,
Gambit
From what I know all newage was remappable from the standard ECU well my bugeye is one of the 1st newage and has a remap done on the ECU. The blobeye hasn't been done yet but thinking about it :)
bazza
im rapidly becoming confused lol.....when i started this post i did state i need educating on this subject and i have opened can of worms i am out of my league on this stuff but with all the knowledge that you guys are giving me is a help but this ecu esl daughterboard and mothership i am finding it a little difficult lol........ on further inspection of the ecu casing i can see it has been removed and opened before i do not want to tamper with it so i have decided i will leave it well alone....I take my hat of to you all for helping me out i no i was throwing some high figures of wanting to get 400 bhp from my 1994 wrx and have learned that i should only pursue 330 maximum so thanx its not that i am going to be constantly using that amount of power ( well not all the time lol ) around the 300-330 bhp i would like to achieve as it is realistic and with the mods i have i am almost there think i need injectors not totaly sure what ones yet ( research needed ) and maybe i think a bigger throttle body and not sure what else is needed so back to drawing board tick of what i have and work out what i need...... while on the subject does anyone have the pipe that deletes the air resinator under the bonnet for sale ?? anyway i will still keep this post going as i dont want to be beaten or give up totaly i want to achieve 330 bhp or as close as i can to 300 bhp once again thanx to you all for your help and advice think my next thing to do is a list of what i have got fitted to the car and what i need to achieve my goal THANK YOU
Jay762
Hang in there Bazza - you are on the right tracks. You could open the lid on your ECU no problem with ignition off just dont touch the circuit board inside in case you earth any static build up through it. Im sure you will be happy with 300 - 330 as an immediate upgrade ;)
savage bulldogs
Sorry baz We have gone off on a bit of a tangent lol You need yellow injectors for your target 330 hp with no need for a enlarged throttle body You have a standard subaru ecu , all subaru pre 98 ecu's are non mappable unless it's fitted with a esl circuit board . ( like the one in my pic ) Esl runs open source software which means you don't pay a licence fee for using the software to change the parameters of fuel , timing ect . Licenced ecutek software is for 99 onwards ecu's and the first time you use it on a ecu you get charged a licence fee (about £100 I think) ecutek doesn't require a circuit board to be fitted it just plug the mappers laptop into the cars standard ecu the other option is a completely new aftermarket ecu from the likes of apexi , gems , simtec , syvecs ect . Then you'll have to pay the mappers fee to adjust the timing, fuelling, boost ect . this can range from £150 for a tweek (ie fmic to tmic) . To full bespoke duel maps with anti lag , flat throttle ,shifting launch control ect £400+

555wagon
hi mate 330 out of a classic will make a quick car a good turbo for this may be a vf 35 or which td 05 do u have just for spool the alcatek will be £1000 plus but you will have anti lag and launch control so from my experience thing hard on which route you want to go down as one you catch the modding bug it can cost you thousands as I know you have more mapping freedom with a after market ecu :D
Ash007ks
anti lag and launch control are nice to have for showing the car off but be careful as it will rapidly shorten the life of the engine and turbo.
savage bulldogs
You can get anti lag , flat throttle shifting, launch control and maffless duel maps on the esl install as well ;-) But will admit simtec (or alcatek with the update) has more parameters for the mapper to tweek . I'd love either alcatek or syvecs with a toucan touch screen :-) As for coilovers bc' are quite well rated but a bit over your price range new . I'll have a set of tien coilovers for sale in a couple of months ,once iv sold my brvs sti cdb and 6 speed classic conversion . Their only height adjustable (no damper adjustment) but they perform well .
