If it's a classic engine with wrong turbo and you don't know what management it's running would be a good start to find out so you know what you can do

It don't take much for these engines to blow or have a hissi fit

Ok thanks buddy and I'm not 100% sure it's a td04 but definitely will check on that.

The ecu I would be more worried about , if someone has stuck a superchip in or the likes I would be ripping that out ASAP

Yeah its not got a standard ECU, it can be remapped, couldnt tell you which make it is though. decat exhaust, got a boost gauge and uprated dump valve.

not the greatest with cars so my apologies but slowly learning stuff

No worries mate we all had to learn about scoobs at some point ,I'm still learning new stuff after 3yrs of fettling[emoji6]

Lift the passenger side front footwell carpet , remove the 10mm bolts and look under the kick pannel (thats where the ecu is )

As for turbo identification here's a tdo4 showing the id markings (tdo5 markings will be in the same area)

What does the boost gauge read when at full boost ?

And I agree with matt that you should do a oil n filter change and book a dyno session to make sure it's running right .

As it's best to have a good safe starting point before modifying .

Hi again, sorry it hasn't taken so long to get back to you guys.

The ecu is a 75

And the turbo is a vf24, not a td04!!

Is that set up ok?

I am going to take it for a dyno session at the end of the month :)

The 75 ecu and the vf24 is correct for a v4 sti.

the ecu can't be mapped without a esl daughter board fitted (about £550 fitted and mapped)Unfortunately I sold my 3 plug esl ecu last week (£220) .

Here's a few rough costs and options , all based on Second hand ecu's

esl £220, apexi £350, simtek £400, alcertek £600 and syvecs wouldn't give you much change from a grand .

Some ecu's would require a install, plus Mapping ( cost varies but about ) £250 + dyno .

what 1 would you recommend out of them? and the ecu i have at the mo, is that worth spending the 500 and remapping that?

Posted

That depends on what's your target power , budget and your preferred mappers software .

you'll probably be better off emailing the likes of "jolly green monster" simon roe or any other respectable mapper and they'll point you in the right direction for your needs

As there's pro's and cons with most ecu's and I've only had esl and apexi myself but would have a alcertek if budget would allow

As mine is jap import, is there any big differences in that and the uk version? As in bigger pipes or bigger fittings? Or will most things fit?

Posted

Pretty much the same mate only thing you will need to make sure is the correct plug numbers for the ecu

Ok mate and different parts I.e front mount, always make sure they fit a gc8 and it will fit mine?

Yeah no problem, will put some pics up in the next day or 2. What have u got? Any pics mate? Just out of interest :)
