Hi A quick check for the cabin filter being wet might be a good idea. I found my filter to be sopping wet because muddy silt had built up under the windscreen wiper cowling stopping water escaping on the bulkhead. I had terrible condensation, the heater blower was sucking air through the wet filter and blowing out damp. Best wishes Brack

Hi, depends what your needs are and how much your willing to pay, a set of Michelins will last you forever at 6K miles a year - I went for Michelin Latitude Cross all season but not sure that they come in your size. My other car has a set of Bridgestone Weatherproof all season - no complaints with those either, brilliant grip in winter. Nokian are good too according to some members on here Avoid cheap Chinese brands at all costs or you will be paying twice.

Found the knack - just need to approach the downhill steady in say 3rd manual mode then while descending shift down into 2nd and 1st, the car takes you down slowly. If you stop at the top and set off down in manual 1st the car just speeds up and the brakes are needed, the car doesn't seem to know you want to go down slowly in the snow (my car anyway). Hi all, not a biggie but when its very hot weather my EJ20 petrol automatic struggles to fire up. In ordinary / cooler / winter weather it starts up straight away everytime. Starter turns it over fine but the engine just dies - after a few tries it fires up eventually, a little press on the accellerator seems to help (with the other foot on the brake). Had the same issue last Summer on very hot days - Just wondering if anyone else has come across this, might it be the start of a bigger problem? Cheers for any advice Brack

Thanks Jay and Mr B, the filter doesnt seem to be a servicable part being built into a pump thats so fiddly to take apart - a new pump seemed the only option. Maybe I worry too much but I've been bitten by a clogged up fuel filter before so a bit wary of them. Do you know if the fuel tank is plastic by any chance?

Hi all, My 2.0 NA Petrol has 110K on the clock with no record of a fuel filter change - in the book it says to change at 60k. Looking things up it appears to be built into the fuel pump and a PITA to change. I'm thinking to get a replacement fuel pump - what do you guys think? Should the book say replace the fuel pump at 60K miles maybe. Hating these smart motorways so I'm trying to cover all options so not to break down on them Thanks for any advice Neil

I'm no expert but I'd say air was being drawn in to the system somehow - do these pumps need bleeding after being re filled maybe? Someone with more knowledge than me should be along soon 😉

Maybe a small oil drip that's landing on the exhaust ....valve cover gasket leak etc.

I've not had any problems with my SH petrol model, its been 100% reliable. Best to have test drives to get an idea of which make and model of car suits your needs. Main points on a Forester - FSH, 4x matching good tyres and the cam belt changed at 60K miles (if petrol) Good luck 🙂

Used the holes that a previous owner had drilled and some rubber fittings that squelch up from behind to form a washer when tightened up. Reversing camera now fitted securely - I'll post a pic soon....amazing these cameras when you have a very dark window tint like mine especially at night 🙂

I've just changed mine, I didnt know what to expect either but as Mr B says its no big deal - after installation everything was back up and running apart from clock and radio settings - no alarms went off etc. (08 SH model) 🙂 Nice tip Mr B by the way 🙂

Yep, for wet grip they're about as good as you can get - being all season is a bonus 🙂

Might be a very good choice, my wife has 4 new Bridgestone Weather Controls fitted to her Ford - she says they are brilliant on the country lanes and amazing grip in the wet, looking forward to see how they do in the snow 🙂

Hi, Just my choice - I went for the SH 09 to 13 year model, 2.0 Petrol. It has plenty of space for my stuff and not too bad on fuel consumption considering its 150bhp and 1500KG kerb weight it has plenty of power for my needs. I cant comment about previous models as I've never owned a Subaru before but I did a lot of research before buying mine, I reckon the symmetrical awd makes them all as good as each other. Lots of videos on you tube, these helped my decision anyway - "4x4 overland subaru" and "softroadingthewest". Again just my choice - good luck your adventure sounds great 🙂

Cheers mate, I'll have to see how it goes then - strange it mentions engine braking in the handbook but doesn't seem to do it....

Hi Just wondered if anyone has achieved effective engine braking when going down hill with a 4 speed auto? I've tried what it says in the handbook by going into sport mode. I stop at the top of the hill, shift into sport mode and off with the brakes but on the way down the car just speeds up as normal and I end up having to use the brakes. It's just that I have a lot of steep hills where I live and when the snow comes engine braking comes in very handy, I cant seem to get the knack with this car (Forester SH). Any tips would be great.
