  1. Assuming its a similar design to the classic and most other brakes it is a simple enough job, unless of course you have seized pistons and rounded bolts, then it turns into a bit of a nightmare. other than that very simple. Although I would suggest spraying the caliper bolts with a penetrant the night before and then again before you start, makes it a lot easier to get off in they are seized at all. And then copper grease on the anti aqueeze plates
  2. The numbers are getting up slowly. Quite a few not able to make the evening so the next one will probably be a weekend. And got a few of RH locals coming whih should be interesting. And hopefully some good photos come out.
  3. Added to the list, glad you are coming and welcome to the club
  4. Mr B does seem to have put some logic into his thought. And Gambit I have had the same thing with Cusco, so I'm guessing not too cheap either!!
  5. I would be inclined to agree with Jay, if you want a clean car that is unmolested and in good condition you're looking at £2,000. However I got mine for £1,500, and then had to spend £150 to get it back to good condition (steering wheel and fuel filler pipe) and then a new axle back exhaust was another £120 but only because I didn't like the one that came with it. And then £100 for both rocker cover gaskets. so £1,750 all in for the car to be back to good condition. Bit less money spent but a lot more time. Although I got lucky in the fact that person selling needing the money because he had been made redundant and had a newborn, bad for him but good for me. I drove a couple of cars advertised at £1750ish and they were all ok, all needed little things doing, such as new brakes or axle back exhausts, or with incomplete histories.
  6. Saying that I have a turbo timer, just need to install it. Can't harm the car and can warm it up while on street with doors locked. And looks pretty cool me thinks. I when I was buying I found any turbo that low had problems. The ones advertised from £1700 seemed to be ok though. But the market may have decreased. And always a bargain going somewhere.
  7. Glad we have been of some help. Turbo timer not needed on Subaru as it is air cooled and not oil cooled. Always make sure car is up to temp before using boost. Best way to cool is to stay off boost for last mile or so. Always ask to see what the person you are buying from has done as well. And unmolested should be much more reliable in general.

How do the engine mountings cause wayward steering? I beleive people when they say they do. Just wondering why really.
  9. I feel I need to see this video, sounds interesting!! What have I done to my car? Wrestled with a caliper bolt that was stuck and rounded it off nicely.
  10. Yeah, I guess they could be charged more for card use than on ebay. haven't heard from Cusco over the weekend (maybe he has a life outside of Subaru ;)) so not to sure, I ordered mine online as I need them quickly, but still thinking on having the old calipers sent off to him, and then having them refurbed as spares or just selling them to him. Heard good things about him though.

Could be a brake grabbing for some reason, may happen all the time but only noticeable at high speeds and when cornering, could be the alignment out, something bent somewhere. Worth having a look and seeing if you can see anything really obvious wrong although it sounds like you have already done this.
  12. Had a quick look at the site and they might be able to help, if not you can always try a breaker, could get lucky, you never know
  13. I have a similar set on my car, not sure what the finish is, unfortunately they are always filthy because the alley which my drive is on isn't paved and has a river running down it at the moment making it muddy and horrible. But in general seem to be ok nuts. Don't stand out on my car as they are similar colour to the wheels though.
  14. Came across this video series about a guy who decides to do rally cross on a budget, good series and definitely worth a watch. In fact lots of the videos on the Drive network are worth a watch.
  15. Depends really. If you can weld and are confident then go for it. If not then it depends how bad it is. If it's just surface rust you can try and use a wire brush to get it off and then underseal it. However most of the time when you notice it it is more serious than that and will probably need cutting out and welding in. Also depends on where abouts it is exactly and will it need repainting when done.
  16. Might want to think about getting the rust sorted early and then protecting with an underseal. As for plugs take windscreen fluid reservoir off (2 screws) and place out of way. Don't need to remove hose just screws. And on the otherside remove some of the intake piping and you can get to them.
  17. Found the WRX PRO caliper on Ebay from brakeparts.co.uk but cheaper than their own website!!! And free delivery for Tuesday. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-IMPREZA-inc-WRX-TURBO-LEFT-FRONT-BRAKE-CALIPER-4-POT-BRAND-NEW-BCA2882A-/261286155112?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cd5de5368 Seems odd to me but there you go.
  18. I was in the same boat in the summer, finally afford insurance on more than a 1.6 and a few extra bob saved up. I bought a W reg (last year of the classic I believe) turbo 2000, pretty standard with 4 pot brakes, FSH. Good power for just road use, will be upgrading more in the future because why not. And not too cheap to run. Got mine for quite a bit less than £2000. For that budget would look for one with FSH and a generally clean looking car with very little rust. I would also think about getting one with the 4-pot upgrade as the brakes are a known weak point. Its a really good market for buying a nice well looked after cheap classic at the moment. Those are just my thoughts but think most would agree. You probably know all this though. Enjoy it when you get it and welcome.
  19. Hello and welcome, echo what Jay said really, the fuel filler pipes can also develop leaks through rust (pretty common) and not too hard to fix, and just keep her serviced regularly
  20. They are a diddle to change assuming your bolts come off easily Jonny. Me B I am talking to Cusco about reconditioning and getting one done the same colour. Then when I get the cost I can weigh it against the price of the WRX Pro one
  21. All the pads are in good condition with lots of pad left. Only trading in because they're budget pads and I value good brakes when driving enthusiastically!!
  22. Well this story gets even better. Now the passenger side caliper is seized!! When trying to get it off today I did notice one of the ales was torn so had a feeling it was on way out. I think it may have been seized for a while but seized while not putting pressure on the pads. However maybe when bleeding the brakes the systematic pressure forced it out a bit and stuck it there. So time for another caliper change.
  23. I like it with the gold wheels. but the shade of white has to be crisp, whenever I see a white classic they always look a bit too creamy or dull for my liking, and definitely like the gold wheels. Good colour combo I think
  24. I have an extra one if you want it, will cost you postage. A new set came free with my discs/pads and also with new calipers. Is brand new, send me a pm if you want it. (Won't be able to post till Monday though)
