  1. Yeah, I guess they could be charged more for card use than on ebay. haven't heard from Cusco over the weekend (maybe he has a life outside of Subaru ;)) so not to sure, I ordered mine online as I need them quickly, but still thinking on having the old calipers sent off to him, and then having them refurbed as spares or just selling them to him. Heard good things about him though.
  2. Could be a brake grabbing for some reason, may happen all the time but only noticeable at high speeds and when cornering, could be the alignment out, something bent somewhere. Worth having a look and seeing if you can see anything really obvious wrong although it sounds like you have already done this.
  3. Had a quick look at the site and they might be able to help, if not you can always try a breaker, could get lucky, you never know
  4. I have a similar set on my car, not sure what the finish is, unfortunately they are always filthy because the alley which my drive is on isn't paved and has a river running down it at the moment making it muddy and horrible. But in general seem to be ok nuts. Don't stand out on my car as they are similar colour to the wheels though.
  5. Came across this video series about a guy who decides to do rally cross on a budget, good series and definitely worth a watch. In fact lots of the videos on the Drive network are worth a watch.
  6. Depends really. If you can weld and are confident then go for it. If not then it depends how bad it is. If it's just surface rust you can try and use a wire brush to get it off and then underseal it. However most of the time when you notice it it is more serious than that and will probably need cutting out and welding in. Also depends on where abouts it is exactly and will it need repainting when done.
  7. Might want to think about getting the rust sorted early and then protecting with an underseal. As for plugs take windscreen fluid reservoir off (2 screws) and place out of way. Don't need to remove hose just screws. And on the otherside remove some of the intake piping and you can get to them.
  8. Found the WRX PRO caliper on Ebay from brakeparts.co.uk but cheaper than their own website!!! And free delivery for Tuesday. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-IMPREZA-inc-WRX-TURBO-LEFT-FRONT-BRAKE-CALIPER-4-POT-BRAND-NEW-BCA2882A-/261286155112?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cd5de5368 Seems odd to me but there you go.
  9. I was in the same boat in the summer, finally afford insurance on more than a 1.6 and a few extra bob saved up. I bought a W reg (last year of the classic I believe) turbo 2000, pretty standard with 4 pot brakes, FSH. Good power for just road use, will be upgrading more in the future because why not. And not too cheap to run. Got mine for quite a bit less than £2000. For that budget would look for one with FSH and a generally clean looking car with very little rust. I would also think about getting one with the 4-pot upgrade as the brakes are a known weak point. Its a really good market for buying a nice well looked after cheap classic at the moment. Those are just my thoughts but think most would agree. You probably know all this though. Enjoy it when you get it and welcome.
  10. Hello and welcome, echo what Jay said really, the fuel filler pipes can also develop leaks through rust (pretty common) and not too hard to fix, and just keep her serviced regularly
  11. They are a diddle to change assuming your bolts come off easily Jonny. Me B I am talking to Cusco about reconditioning and getting one done the same colour. Then when I get the cost I can weigh it against the price of the WRX Pro one
  12. All the pads are in good condition with lots of pad left. Only trading in because they're budget pads and I value good brakes when driving enthusiastically!!
  13. Well this story gets even better. Now the passenger side caliper is seized!! When trying to get it off today I did notice one of the ales was torn so had a feeling it was on way out. I think it may have been seized for a while but seized while not putting pressure on the pads. However maybe when bleeding the brakes the systematic pressure forced it out a bit and stuck it there. So time for another caliper change.
  14. I like it with the gold wheels. but the shade of white has to be crisp, whenever I see a white classic they always look a bit too creamy or dull for my liking, and definitely like the gold wheels. Good colour combo I think
  15. I have an extra one if you want it, will cost you postage. A new set came free with my discs/pads and also with new calipers. Is brand new, send me a pm if you want it. (Won't be able to post till Monday though)
  16. Cheers guys, looking forward to upping the profile of West Yorkshire with Stanton500, and hopefully meeting with other local(ish) areas such as Sheffield
  17. Yeah there shouldn't be any but will be interesting if there is. However we will have to wait for a decision, went to change the discs and pads on passengers side and managed to round the top 17mm bolt. The bottom bolt came off with a bit of pressure, however the top one didn't, so I used plus gas, cleaned it off with a wire brush, more plus gas and waited 10 minutes, went back and still no movement in any direction. Repeated again with plus gas, went to move the bolt and it just rounded off, will be off to RH on Tuesday hopefully so they can wack it off for me and then finally might be able to get the !Removed! thing off!!!
  18. Hi everyone, As can be seen by the title I am the new regional co-ordinator for West Yorkshire. I am a Mechanical and Automotive engineering student at the university of Bradford, and part time employee at River Island. The Subaru is the second car I have done my own work on so am fairly new at the practical stuff, however I have a good theoretical knowledge of what goes on within a car. As I'm hoping most of you have seen by now me and stanton500 are in the process of organizing a local meet, hopefully this will be the first of many. I am planning on having regular meets in different places and at different times so people have a chance to come to as many as possible and see more places. I am also interested in starting some relationships with local businesses and potentially get some member discounts, although this is a long way off at the moment. If there are any places that people want to go as a group or any local businesses that you are aware of or have a relationship please let me know so we can come and visit. I will also try and plan some convoy's down to Car shows so if anyone is planning on going get in contact and I will try to organize something. If you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to message me, I am here to help you guys enjoy the S.O.C and life with a Subaru. I will do my best and am always open to ideas. Thanks a lot.
  19. Will definitely take a lot of photo's another one of my hobbies is photography, although relatively new at it, will send you a PM but definitely interested.
  20. That is a shame, hopefully this will be the first of a regular West Yorkshire meet up, with different days and times so more people can attend.
  21. I also think they are a bit heavier which isn't a shock, or this could just be me imagining it. But I needed the cheaper option as I haven't been paid since before Christmas (had to leave job to go to Aus) so am running a little low. I personally think it looks better in silver, although at the moment one is silver and the other one is red.... will hopefully get a chance to change the discs and pads on the passenger side tomorrow morning and see if there is any noticeable difference between the genuine and not so genuine. Although this !Removed! rain makes it hard to do any job, started the caliper in the sun today and ended it in pouring rain.
  22. Was closer to £100 after delivery and VAT was added on, but then I ordered it yesterday afternoon and received it at 930 this morning so quick quick service. Don't think it is genuine Subaru though, is silver and says WRX Pro as you can see in the photo's. Old calliper off the car with the disc stuck on, took some force to get it off and then some of the calliper in general and then the new one all put on. Admittedly not the best photos but you get the jist.
  23. Not yet but off in the morning.
  24. Not trashed yet, was half thinking of having another go by don't really have the time, will get in contact with him and see what he says, I should be able to send the seal kit back though and the pistons so all it has cost me is the price of shipping them back, and my time so not a bad result in the end. And a brand new caliper for £75 sounded like a very good deal to me.
