Gutted for ya fella :-( What's the condition of the bore sleves in the cdb ? You might get away with just a hone , if not mabye a over bore . if you're aiming for 340 mabye sell the cdb and get a newage sti bottom end and bolt your version sti / p1 heads on it. At least you've got the rs , hows that coming along ?
-
I can get a pic of my brvs next time I'm round his is there any dimensions your after as well ?
-
Not to sure but it might say wrx on the log book , as all v1 sti's were wrxs taken off the production line and then stripped and hand built by sti .rather than being built on the subaru production line like v3 onwards ;-) We've done a facelift conversion with crystal light pack

adrain flux came through with the cheapest quote for me . I think they're better for modified motors rather than standard ;-) I was previously insured with AA (when the car was standard ) but they wouldn't touch me once I started to gather a few mods .

I'm not to sure about the new look at the rear but quite like the front end . did spot this on the top gear website Think it's for the 24 hr race at the ring this year

Nice work fella and it's reminded me that my diff oil needs refreshing lol cheers ;-)
-
Does sound like piston slap as my old engine had it (ran fine for 5k mls until I replaced it) and normally big end noise wouldn't go away once warmed and would increase in volume with the revs . if it is a "sticky lifter" tappets a oil flush and a quality oil might resolve it , what grade /brand of oil was used during the service ?

Sometimes gambit I think you need ...... "A check up from the neck up " lol as for gearboxes not my forte im afraid . i would think your right with the imput shaft having a bearing and seal but,not have taken one apart before myself , I can't help much . I would suggest you change the spigot bearing (in the middle of the fly wheel) especially if there's play in the imput shaft . also get your flywheel skimmed before fitting a new clutch as if there not 100% true they're prone to cause judder when fitting a new clutch . here's a link to some pdf transmission manuals http://ken-gilbert.com/impreza-manuals although they're pre 97 the ty52 non dccd boxes are pretty much the same , appart from the jdm having a different ratio to the 3.45 uk turbo box .

Looks lovely bud, nice choice fella . good base for bigger power as well ;-)

That look like how my mrs drives on the way back from tescos :-) As if she goes shopping without the kids in the car I never get a whole hob knob in the packet and I can't open a beer for 20 mins without it exploding :-D

My Holy Grail, Loads of infor for Scooby owners
savage bulldogs replied to Ash007ks's topic in General Subaru Chat
Some good info/advice on there I had stumbled across this page before while doing some research . Hence why im trying to re fit the oe recirc and fit a intake temp probe when I fit my fmic . I'm a bit confused as to why you say recirculation blow of valves aren't suitable for the tdo4 though bud . (as my 97 uk turbo has both as standard) unless you mean not running a dump valve at all ,which gives you a "chatter" noise as the turbo stalls .in which case you're right as td series would handle the abuse for longer than the vf series . don't mean to split hairs ;-) it just confused me a bit bud (tbo thats easily done at the best of times lol) P.s I had issues with copying and pasting last week it turned out I needed a adobe flash player update to get ie running properly -
Sorry to hear about the damage to your scooby migs but ,at least no one was hurt .I'm glad to hear your thinking of buying a gc8 though :-) My brv is toying with the idea of selling his scooby but he'd want about £4k for her . v1sti 80km Rotas newage black sti seats olin coil overs whiteline arbs, droplinks , lift and bump steer kits autobahn fmic gt spec headers apexi fc 6 speed Forged cdb running 340 hp mapped by jgm And loads of other bits . anyways best of luck getting what you want for yours of the insurance company and I'll be keeping a eye for some pics of whatever you replace the injured waggon with ;-)

Cam Bolt Sheared...
savage bulldogs replied to Daymo's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
Avcs adjusts the cam timing on newage sti's which lessens spool time , but you'd need a different ecu /avcs loom to make them work on your wrx .I'm unsure when the avcs came in but, you might be able to find a newage non avcs sti engine that would fit .or you could source a second hand newage sti bottom end and fit your heads to it . As ash said make sure you use new gaskets and (the correct) three bond liquid gasket between the block halves . there's a link on my project thread on here leading to a site (ken gilbert )that has impreza manuals available for free pdf download. As your need to reverse the head/block bolt torque sequence on dissambly to avoid warpage -
Cam Bolt Sheared...

Don't know much about the newage compatability I'm afraid but I use importcarparts for most of the bits on my classic engine build http://www.importcarparts.co.uk/parts.asp?page=2&cat=96⊂=183&sec=349&var=54&dc=0&gen=&searchKey= I also had a quick cross reference on the inlet gaskets (as the stud pattern and shape of the inlet are normally the difference between versions ) and on the link above they show a different gasket set for 2001 to 2002 (bugeye) 2002 to 2005 (blob eye) they show 1 set for import and 1 set for uk versions. Not very conclusive info I know but ,if you decided to rebuild your engine and need any gaskets/parts they're about the cheapest around (if you find cheaper they'll price match anyways). Also if you speak to luke at icp he knows his scooby spares and would be able to advise you on engine compatability . -

Got some nano drive oil and mahle filter so while doing the oil change I decided it would be rude not to fit some of the new vacuum hoses I got for xmas of the mother in law . Not much of a visual difference at the moment as I wont fit the full kit until I fit the hdi fmic , but I noticed that some of the original vacuum had become brittle when fitting the engine last year . before Spot the difference :-) -
I think you should have a r160 uk rear diff with a 3.54 ratio but, if you google the gearbox code you will find out for definite . pop your bonnet go around to the passengers side wing, look between the top mount intercooler and inner wing there should be a white sticker near the starter motor on the gearbox bellhousing the number should begin with TY54....... once you know what gearbox you've got you should be able to find the diff type and ratio with a bit of a google and then look for a second hand one at a breakers would probably be the cheapest option imo best of luck fella

I fitted a sti tmic, cobra bell mouth sports cat and a k&n panel filter to my v3 uk turbo without a remap and had no issues with driveability or mot emissions for 4k miles until I got a esl remap . The classic ecu seems to be lenient enough (or makes minor adjustments to fuelling itself) but I would recommend considering a remap as you'd find quite a substantial increase in power , driveability and maybe even better mpg

I'm not sure about yours matt as I don't know what rear beam you've got . my 97 uk has a 3.54 160 rear diff which means I have the same size rear handbrake shoes as the newage wrx . So all I need to buy are the conversion brackets and new pads (about £75) and then remove the rear splash guards so the bigger newage wrx discs (I got with the calipers) fit . I dropped alyn @ as preformance a email to ask about compatability he's a helpful fella ;-) -
I'm on the south Suffolk coast ;-)

No probs gambit Looking at my post this morning (now im not !Removed! )The only thing that I'm not 100% sure about is whether a newage engine would be a straight fit (as I don't know when the fuel rails/inlet changed from phase 2 to top feed/newage) .A cross reference the inlet manifold gaskets part numbers should tell you (if their the same it should fit) .Otherwise any 99 /00 (v5/v6) engine would definitely fit ;-)
-
Your 99 would have a phase 2 inlet so fitting the earlier phase 1 can be done but wouldn't be a straight fit . you'd need to possibly switch a few auxiliaries (icv power steering pump ect) and one of these kits http://www.carldavey.co.uk/product.php?id=16 99 to 2002 (anything with a phase 2 inlet /fuel rails) engine would be a straight manifold swop and fit . You'll probably need a remap as well if the engine's outta anything other than a 99 to 00 uk turbo due to turbo ,injector and cam differences (if fitting the whole engine)
-
Didn't that fella from Canada say something about rear spacers for the foz ? "Paranoid saggy butt spacers" I think they were called but ,I think they were for if you fit the wrx springs to a foz .as the foz sits lower at the back due to the extra weight

Your right there gambit " variety is the spice of modding " :-D If we all liked the same thing we wouldn't be modding at all , just driving around in the factory finished scoobies . don't get me wrong I put pics on here and like it when people comment on my pride n joy and I'd love my scooby to be clean all the time and dent free but ,seeing as the Mrs uses it to go shopping (car park dents) and my kids cover the inside in mud and sweet wrappers , I won't be able to keep it mint ..... well until I get a second car for her and get that 2 door reshell for me ;-) -
Looks well that tlag :-) Will admit I was hoping the touchscreen would work off the odb :-( As wiring ain't my thing .don't get me wrong I fitted the 4 in 1 myself (with new wires and sensors), but tbo splicing into the loom to pick up the other sensors is beyond me .

Yeah I like the look of the scooby scoop to much it's gonna stay :-) might even mount a oil cooler under it once the tmic is gone . just like stealth as most people don't look twice at my motor let alone think about trying to nick it might just spray the fmic matt black instead ;-) my little project is quite selfish really. as I don't care to much about what other people think of my car as they walk past it or try to compete if someone's car is faster/prettier (budgets and tastes differ) just that I have fun fettling and driving it
