  1. Was whole cambelt kit £121 ? if so that possibly gates kit :-/ don't like them. Waterpump not done & I would do one on a 158k car if looked old as even a leak caused by new belt fitting would be unwanted revisit & labour ...
  2. What kit used, waterpump too ? 6 years is not that high, UK subaru do 6yr, US do 8yr. OEM belts staying under the service mileage would do 8yrs quite easily I expect, well a lot do actually from what I see in :-) If you doing quite high miles a Dayco belt & quality waterpump (don't buy cheap pumps) could be worth the investment & piece of mind. Up to you & your budget at end of day.
  3. Check your paperwork & what kit used. I do agree the subaru UK service point for cambelt is low & in my opinion oem quality cambelt parts would see 80k to 100k without much drama on road cars.
  4. Indeed many things could give this issue, would want do fault code test & run over visual inspection of pipework & some sensors in engine bay. Have a look at link below & see if manual files any use to your model. http://jdmfsm.info/Auto/Japan/Subaru/Legacy%20Outback/1997/Service%20Manual/
  5. The idlers & tensioner & water pump should be changed really @ 90k or more Your model also has a idler upgrade to dual roller bearings over one as had few failures on single bearing small idler. Bearings are not going be at there best & any failure here will land you with a very very big bill or scrap ICP cambelt kit with all genuine idlers, tensioner & Dayco belt is £150. decent water pump is about £45. Cheaping out here is a risky game. I would never do a belt only on a customers car as not worth the risk plus a full quality kit fitted around 90 to 120k will see car through till probably end of it's life for most.
  6. Same as ones I had. Kind of normal for flywheels be unmarked ...
  7. what make clutch you got supplied with your kit. any numbers, letters on clutch cover & plate ?
  8. I would try it as it is, then can offer better price & car in genuine bodywork order ...
  9. Manual box could be it's star sale advantage but with the mileage & body marks I would say £2,500 but without seeing it hard to be accurate really. the 3litre are not always easy sell hence why see some bargains, tax & fuel puts a lot off ...
  10. should be fine as flywheel comes with correct ring-gear for standard starters ...
  11. probably not listed for sti but they do fit. Same as all kyb strut models not always listed for the XT but they fit & can work really well !
  12. I would say it's linked to sealing additive in the cooling system that has condensed on the lip of the filler & built up over time.
  13. Opieoils are okay. advertise on here & I expect members have the usual 10% club discount. Exactly what oil & filter are you looking at ?
  14. Should be straight forward job. done 3 using these kits & had no problems & very pleased with the clutch on finished jobs.
  15. Worth noting the prices on the KYB shocks are going up. was few pence less than £50 when first linked, went up to £51.21 which was still super cheap. Current price is £59.92 which not bad so anyone wanting this done would best get struts before stock drops & prices are at £80ish a shock. Pair of Shocks, springs & rubber boots/bump-stops still comes in at less than £200 (£195aprox) with 2yr warranty & very good quality product & solution for dead sls suspension.
  16. What year forester, what alarm system ! as said generally fobs don't need reprogramming due to battery change. I have experienced on more than one occasion a fob not working as got itself out of sequence with the alarm due to weak battery & needed new battery & reprogram. If both fobs an issue then possibly receiver on alarm or main alarm ecu fault but reprogramming could be worth a go as first step.
  17. You can't go wrong with that conversion kit, al very good components & a simple job of unbolting old & bolting on new so no extra steps over fitting new dual mass really. Only thing that will notice the difference is your wallet at £400 savings. The valeo dual mass flywheels are !Removed! as is most stuff valeo so this conversion is best way to go to save money & possible future hassle.
  18. Yeh most of those steel basket ones tend to be from US. UK company called rhinoracks (I think) did baskets but they looked awful, bit like a shopping basket tied to your roof bars :-S Happy hunting, if you find UK retail source post a link. Worth looking at rack/baskets for likes of freelander & suzuki as if cheap & size right would be worth modding to fit perhaps. Annoying thing is in US those universal baskets are about £100 :-/
  19. Lol. he straight on another overtake as soon as got it back too :-) I had a 360 moment once & although gracefully missed hitting anything I was pulled into the nearest stopping point to reflect on the situation & get my pants out of my !Removed! :-S
  20. I've had a few Foresters & outbacks in with various steel & alloy roof trays/baskets. These clamp to standard roof crossbars making the type of thing you after. Thule & Winbo do a range & you will find a few more on eBay from the US which could work out ok as even with shipping they far far cheaper than thule. Tend to look better in black even on a silver car. Expect some of the trays made for smaller 4x4s could be adapted to fit if overall size suitable so worth looking around even at used systems as could be cheap. Example of a tray clamped to standard roof bars below
  21. See how it goes, generally quicker putting stuff back together but always another today tomorrow ...
  22. yes just use good quality & don't over tighten them .
  23. that is tranny fluid, crimp or plug hoses to save a mess & fluid. Topup as required once fitting complete.
  24. Less than 30 miles from Exeter.
