  1. fuse would be the first / easiest thing to check next do to the horn itself and see if it works using a flying lead directly from a battery. If it does I would then be looking to check continuity / voltages for the horn connection to earth from steering wheel to earth point on chassis - there may be a relay involved in the circuitry somewhere. dont forget you will need the ignition on when testing - sounds silly but I made that mistake ;)
  2. ... going to have a sandwich? ... going to watch 'in the night garden'? ... going to have a kip? :D
  3. Great job - set up your playlist and away you go :D
  4. You are right - It is the same turbo on the 97 Forester - there are different turbos on later forester models but I havent found the specs for those yet to validate my earlier post.
  5. ok so after realising I had kicked over a rock - probably much as you did yourself from google - I am now pretty sure the standard turbo on the 1997 WRX (not STI) was a TD04-13T the WRX STI had a TD05H - 16G I now need to find a way to collate all the info I have found into something that is manageable
  6. a point of note - I will find the reference with more detail but I have put it somewhere safe ... (I know its in another thread on here when a similar question was asked along the lines of "been offered a TD05 do I buy it??" The TD04 refers to one half of the turbo and would normally be followed by some further letters and numbers which identify the second part of the turbo build for example we have TD04's across many subaru models but the difference is in second part which sorts size and type of vanes / impellar which vary in size and shape giving different boost properties so the Fossie gets lots of nice low down grunt and the Impreza gets more up top.
  7. I tend to refer to the forester as a Fozzy / Fossie but that is partly because the bear rocks ;)
  8. Battery would be my first place to check
  9. That is a really good finish - and agree a proper polisher is on my list of things to get ;)
  10. What a shame - useful to know though - summer time only track
  11. No problem chum - dont be a stranger, the pull of a flat four is strong ;)
  12. soapy water is the way to go so when you rev the engine if there is a hole that appears due to pressure expansion it blows little bubbles
  13. The noise level with the exhaust will be down to the manufacturer, you can have a decat exhaust with a large silencer box and keep the levels low, conversely you can have hi flow sport cats fitted followed by a straight through pipe and it will be louder than your standard setup. from the diagrams it looks like the lamba is just after the first cat I cant help with rear plug access on your vehicle, but Im sure one of the others will be along with the knowledge
  14. well fingers crossed - but keep an eye on the levels, oil and coolant as you have highlighted there may have been damage done by the overheating. what you possibly have now is the time to consider the options to give you peace of mind/assurance, engine swap, car swap (risk with the unknown again) or engine out and heads checked??
  15. Sounds like a great project thread ;)
  16. Wotcha and welcome - I would have said the battery as a first place to check but as you have verified this I would investigate the immobiliser itself, particulalrly as you can hear the relay in it and sometimes it doesnt de activate. some of the other members may be along in a bit with more detail
  17. Does connecting the red wire to earth sound the horn? if so that is your two connections one to the red wire and one to an earth- the single lead horn buttons have metal cases to earth / close the circuit
  18. Wotcha and welcome Matt - interested parties, like yourself, always help drive things forward :)
  19. yup echo that check for leaks
  20. Hey the only embarrassment should be from the armchair spectators - you're putting it out there, respect, although if you get duffed up by a punto - bearing in mind we have already seen a Samber can ghost them - you will have some explaining to do :P enjoy yourself ;)
  21. looking good - as said before an RFRB grill would set those off - you'll have to keep an eye out for a sensibly priced one
  22. sorry - I dont, I know Subaru called them Lusteric Silver but some finishes were darker than others even from the factory. I struggled to find a paint code though and when I saw the chrome type finish offered you could see how the shade would vary due to the over spray process involved (it is black paint sprayed over with silver partially allowing the black to show through) - so hard to get it even - it works fine on narrow spokes but the wide spokes these have it would not have produced a great result - hence opting for the Anthracite Those rims do look awesome though!
  23. depends how much you like the car, you will not get a great px with the work that needs to be done. here is the discussion thread with Bouncer - it may be of use http://uk.subaruownersclub.com/forums/topic/2690-head-gasket-prices-for-wrx/
  24. made by Enkei - great alloys not a great finish watch for surface corrosion on the inside and the lacquer lifting on the outside ;)
