  1. Hi I have and EJ20G impreza Engine in my JDM forester, I was just wondering which one is that - as there are 3 different variations? Can someone explain please and provide the pics ideally to explain which one is which? I can upload my engine picture if needed as well. None of these state my forester, but mine is rather a very rare JDM version, with the Impreza Engine and the gearbox . EJ20G EJ20G engines fall into 3 categories: 1. Rocker-style HLA EJ20G usage Legacy RS 89-93*Legacy RS-RA 89-93 Legacy GT 89-93 Power output ranges from 197 bhp (147 kW; 200 PS) @ 6000 rpm and 260 Nm for the GT to 220 PS (162 kW; 217 bhp) @ 6400 rpm and 270 Nm for the RS versions. Engines can be identified by coil on plug, and with 2 M6 bolts per coil and valve covers with 4CAM 16VALVE and horizontal lines above and below the plug holes. All these engines have the air-to-water intercooler setup (chargecooler) and oil squirters. 2. Bucket-style HLA EJ20G usage Impreza WRX 92~96. Impreza WRX Wagon 92~96 Impreza WRX STI 93~96 EUDM Subaru Impreza Turbo 94~96 Power output ranges from 220 PS @ 6000 rpm and 260 Nm for the WRX Wagons to 275 PS @ 6500 rpm and 319 Nm for the WRX STI Version II. Engines can be identified by coil on plug with 1 M8 bolt per coil and valve covers with 4CAM 16VALVE and horizontal lines above the plug holes. Generally these engines all have the slanted intercooler. Some engines may not have HLA buckets but solid buckets with shims underneath. These engines also feature lighter valves, the intake valves are marked INKO and the exhaust valves are marked EXKO. The standard HLA valves are I252 and E283 respectively. All WRX Wagon engines and automatic sedan engines came with a TD04 with 90 deg elbow, all manual WRX sedans including STI versions had a TD05 with 90 deg elbow 3. Shim-under-bucket style EJ20K usage Impreza wrx sti MT 97~98 Impreza WRX sti wagon MT 97~98 JDM wrx 96~97 Power output is 280 PS @ 6800 rpm for the Japanese versions and 300 PS for the v3 sti with vf23 Engines can be identified by smooth valve covers, plug leads and a wasted spark coil in the middle of the intake manifold. also manifold is red utilizing ihi ball Bering turbo unit ether vf22 vf23 or vf24 these engines have die cast pistons
  2. Hey I also have a 1997 import -)
  3. Oh and here is full service manual for SF5 model 2001, in plain English! Just press download. https://yadi.sk/d/mAsTJwvrhjoah/2001 Forester SF/Service Manual
  4. Can anyone with SF forester provide a print out of their tracking? I just want to compare mine as I feel like mine could be improved since the mechanic was unable to find the 97 Turbo forester and used the 99 N/A Forester setting for the tracking.
  5. Replaced the Knock sensor - MPG improved by about 10%. Replaced the PCV valve - can't comment on the changes. Replaced all the bushes/drop links/steering rod/racks - handles better, but rather too stiff and steering feels heavier as well. During the tracking the Forester 1997 wasn't available so we used 1999 and now it pulls to the right, even though I have a print out where is everything in the green zone after the tracking... Will be replacing remaining sensors soon as the hold is still flashing and it is related to some engine sensor(s)... Apart from the PCV valve is there anything else I should check/replace in regards to the emissions/fuel systems?
  6. The difference between cheap OAT and expensive is that 1 last for 1-2 years and the other one over 5 years -) But mind you I had to put a cheap OAT in and my sensors were going bananas, showing cold engine while blowing hot air and loads of things can happen, not 100% that is was down to the antifreeze of course, but I'm about to replace my sensors now just in case, even though after flashing with Toyota one everything is much better now. I think for Turbo charged cars NOT every antifreeze will be suitable (at least in a long run), as some will sustain hotter temperatures better and you need that, as coolant cools down the turbo as well and that is ouch, extremely hot.
  7. Yes that's the one. I would rather get one from the Dealership, it's about the same price, but you'll get the original one and many online shops can sell a few year old antifreeze where is it's always better to get a fresh one -)
  8. Toyota Antifreeze is one of the best you can get for your car. Try it.
  9. Mate, trust me! Go to Toyota dealership and ask for Antifreeze RED 5L, this is one of the best coolants in the world, already pre-mixed and I bet that Subaru will sell exactly the same antifreeze but with higher price tag. They last for over 5 years and you can add just distilled water if you need to top up, or get extra 2 litres (it's around 7 litres for a full flush), but you won't get everything out of the system anyway, unless you do it multiple times. If the antifreeze hasn't been changed for years, I would advise to dump the old one and just fill the distilled water, drive for a week (make sure you always use the Heater at full blast and maximum possible temperature) when driving - thus to get rid of all the crap in the heater matrix. And then fill new coolant from Toyota! I'm using it for my own Forester and it runs just fine.
  10. Hey. Ordered quite a few sensors, some suspensions and steering related parts, hopefully next week my mechanic will have a free day for me -) Does anyone know the correct torque settings for the following sensors: Knock sensor Coolant Temperature for ECU sensor Camshaft sensor Crankshaft sensor I hope that one of these sensors will fix my error 25 code for the gearbox... And the Coolant Sensors just too slow, to react, so I figured it would save me some cash on petrol if I replace these sensors as well.
  11. I don't like phone calls -) email is the best, got a history this way! Did he ask you for a bank transfer as well??? I offered him Paypal as they trade on Ebay surely they have Paypal account!
  12. I see! Ok then, Luke is slow to reply sometimes, but has been very helpful -)
  13. Have you tested the ICP track rod ends by any chance? Can anyone give a feedback please? I want to replace mine as well as the other related parts at the same time, so I don't have to pay for the tracking twice -) http://www.importcarparts.co.uk/parts-info.asp?id=1869 http://www.importcarparts.co.uk/parts-info.asp?id=1871 http://www.importcarparts.co.uk/parts-info.asp?id=1872
  14. Good advise here as usual! Thank you. The budget is around £200, I'm only interested in 16 inch, preferably light weight -) No need to drop the car, I like 200 mm clearance, so it's best to keep it that way and improve comfort. I passed the stage of coilovers, not it's time to have some comfort and safety. I think overtime these temp sensors get's wont out somehow therefore they take too long to show the readings. My alternator is started to screaming again, only on the cold start....... also I have replaced the alternator in November and this is a new belt as well, I wonder if that has something to do with the battery as I was washing the car the other day and had my stereo on for a few hours and it drained all the battery...
  15. It's good to hear from you -) I want to replace all the bushes, which I have ordered already. Finding all the part numbers for the bushes wasn't easy -) Also the following: PCV VALVE £10.50 THERMOSTAT £13.50 FRONT ARB LINKS (ICP HEAVY DUTY TYPE) £16.95 REAR ARB LINKS (ICP HEAVY DUTY) £25.99 IN CAR TEMP GAUGE SENSOR £7.99 ICP ENGINE MOUNT RUBBER SET £39.95 Subaru Forester 2.0T EJ20G Import ECU Coolant Temperature Sensor- £14.50 Knock sensor - Genuine Subaru Parts: 22060AA061 - £58.50 K&N air filter - was unable to get a quote from ICP, probably they don't sell it. The coolant sensors work for me, but too slow to react, takes like 5 min before it shows that engine is warm also you can feel that it's proper hot, even if it's +20c outside... There is warm air blowing though, so thermostat is most likely working OK. The engine mounts I want to replace because on my old toyota the manifold was leaking because of the engine mounts -) I replaced 3 manifold including brand new and they were all leaking, so I replaced the mounts with TRD and then the problem was solved! And now it looks like my gasket is leaking on the up pipe, still didn't get the time to sort it out. I'm looking for a second set of alloys as well, if you know of any for sale that would be interesting.
  16. I've got the RCM pump now, fantastic pump really made the difference! Thank you Stants for pointing to it!
  17. What other parts have you got for sale?
  18. Replacing the headlights is your best bet. What kind of bulb have you got on your forester's headlights?
  19. Has anyone tried ICP fuel pumps? the ICP claims that it's the exact copy of RCM, but with different label. Anyone had any experience with them? ICP/RL 340LPH INTANK FUEL PUMP £91.50 ICP - ImportCarParts.co.uk I'm about to get quite a few bits from them, but still can't decide about the pump. Also I'm shopping around and trying to get a good deal, can anyone recommend any other shops who sell parts for our cars?
  20. These are exactly the same wheels on Japanese advert -) so I bet they were JDM ones
  21. That's no worries mate. I know exactly how you feel as I have a year and a month boy -)
  22. Thank you made a good info. Did you mean turn the steering wheel may be? not the wheels -) I wasn't sure if such method would work but if you say so I would definitely give it a try!
  23. Has anyone managed to changed the PowerSteering fluid without a special pump? If so can anyone advise on how to do it? thank you!
  24. Www.opposedforces.com doesn't work for me either. The website provided actually has English/Japanese printouts and is the JDM one. Just at the beginning you'll see some Russian, but once VIN entered and select something in the middle you'll see the rest in English. At the top left when you click on the part there will be the actual part numbe wirtten starting with OEM. If anyone need any help with the website just let me know as I've learned how to use it by now and understand that writings -) Saying that I was unable to find the original fuel pump with that, also the database is so massive I probably didn't look well enough... My local Subaru dealership is rubbish and a waste of time. After a Toyota one is like day and night -)
  25. Do you know what month (in 1997) is your car stants? That should be yours I suppose? http://www.subaru-forester.info/specs/1997.2/28145/ Also you can try to use this website which I was recommended, it has Japanese database of spare parts - you will just have to input your vin code - totally free. Use google chrome for translation http://subaru.epcdata.ru/forester/ Type in your vin code and press the only gray button starts with Ha - in the middle - that will show quite a lot of info about your car -)
