  1. 'If it fits...' :| I guess they quickly took off the duct tape holding it together before selling! All running well now? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. There is a website based on how many were either taxed or sorn in the U.K. to give an idea, but not knowing much about models I tried it and there's different R models on there. It goes by what's on the logbook. Here's a screenshot from looking at my friends sport special model. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. Wow you really worn off the paint on the go pedal :P Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. Because of the fuel on the plugs, Do you smell fuel in the exhaust after cranking? Can't remember if there is a fuel pump fuse, maybe pull the fuse out, crank for 10 seconds, wait a couple of minutes then put the fuse back in and try? There wasn't a fuse in my girlfriends old micra I think, so we just ended up towing it with key in/ignition off (make sure steering lock doesn't come on!) to clear it of fuel, then basically just doing a bump start by turning the key to ignition lights (not the starter motor position!) 5. Try searching for custom exhaust shops round your area, get a quote from them. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. What did the old plugs look like when you took them out? Might give you an idea of how the engine was running, incase it's something else. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. With the engine off, get in the drivers seat. Turn on the engine, wait a while then press the accelerator. Check the mirror to see if there's a big grin on your face. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. Maybe it is category D instead of spec D? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. Always wave at other Subaru drivers, or give a nod :) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. How does the car run when the engine is cold? Are the sensor wire colours in the right position on the plug? When I got mine, one of the previous owners changed rear o2, but a mechanic noticed to get the wires correct the plug had to be put in upside down. Did you try running with map sensor unplugged? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. Someones taken the bonnet scoop Reminds me of top gear searching for the source of the nile Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. Can't remember exactly what the code was on my girlfriends old Nissan, but I think it was O2 related saying the voltage was too low or too high, the Ecu kept trying to correct the mixture but it couldn't and it threw a code. Anyway, problem was a dirty MAF. The car was running on incorrect air information which meant the O2 reading would always be out and too far out for correction. You could try unplugging maf or map and running it, or unplugging front exhaust sensor and running it. See what happens Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. Did it do it before the fluid change? To check the level of the fluid I think you have to do something like put the lever on all modes and check it with the lever in a certain position? There is a diagnostic for the transmission, it works on my 2001 legacy. Look up 'secret handshake', follow the steps then the transmission computer will flash the codes to you on the dash. 14. Welcome :) always saw on here rear arches are a place to look at so don't consider yourself unlucky! Mechanic snapped front brake calliper bolts on my gfs Impreza.. from the looks of the discs it looked like it had a previous owner that used it as a cheap runabout (non turbo) and so didn't bother with routine maintenance. My legacy around the same year everything comes off easily, but had full service history (ex mod) It might be all sludgy etc now but hopefully if you look after it properly, it will be years of feeling like a driving god :) About to hit 200,000 miles on my legacy, aside from a common leak, still running great! Also a friend of mine converted his wrx in Europe to LPG, says now it costs around the same as his previous Astra turbo diesel to run Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. How I ended up with my legacy, needed a car, put a maximum price on eBay then just saw what was about :) Saw it online, was £550 ono (non turbo) and didn't even bother with making an offer as it seemed a pretty low price. Had a cracked windscreen, hole in the exhaust but went to every service ... (until I owned it :| ) Now approaching 200,000 miles on the odo, still feels nice to drive :) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. If you are anywhere near Norfolk there is an Impreza breakers in Brooke, near Poringland. Alternatively I've seen them list some things on eBay before, so if you called them up you could ask them if they got one, to list it on eBay if they got it then search for it and buy it online. http://www.imprezabreakers.co.uk They've also got a little workshop where I get some work done to mine, also let me borrow a car while the work was being done as was easier for me to leave it there a couple of days to fit around work Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. This car you are restoring, is everything original and doing bodywork or has the engine, Ecu etc been changed? Any codes from plugging in the self diagnostic wires under the dash? Is the MAF in the right place? To at least get it running it might be worth restoring original air intake as I had a problem with a ford I had by moving the MAF. Cleaning a MAF on a Nissan I used air intake cleaner, electrical cleaner, brake cleaner.. that car would still overfuel and rev limit at around 4,000 but got rid of it when using Wynns petrol egr cleaner. As said, let it dry... leave it for at least an hour drip drying or just shaking the **** out of it. Did you try unplugging exhaust sensor then starting to see if it makes a difference? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. There are different parts to the sensor, with 3,4,5 wires. One measures the O2 (not CO2) in the exhaust compared with outside air The other part is the heater. Check that you have the correct o2 sensor with the correct wire colours from the sensor mating those from the car end. If your car has two sensors, that should refer to the one before the cat. I think the heater circuit is made so that any break in it, the Ecu detects that and not what is going on with the 02 readings. Could be just the wrong sensor, right sensor but different wiring to the plug. When I got my windscreen replaced I asked the mechanic to have a quick look at the o2... he said looking at the wire colours the plug should be the other way round! Universal sensors.. 19. Using fuel with added ethanol used to bring up the P0420 code, would go on and off.. takes a couple of drives for it to go off so took me awhile to figure it out! Read somewhere online over a certain percentage of ethanol is not good for some lambda sensors Just stick to shell vpower now Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  20. If that has a little button on top of the steering column like there is on the older legacies, don't leave it on ;) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Cleaning the maf sensor on a Nissan a while back, air intake cleaner didn't work, electrical contact cleaner didn't work... in the end it was wynns egr cleaner that worked. Maybe it was something else I done, but the car ran alright after using that spray. Scan tool showed the car was thinking it was running lean, so it would adjust fuel trims and made it run rich... then really rich... then back to 0... then again rich, really rich then 0 etc You could slightly hear a different exhaust note when idling while it was doing this Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. 2 years sitting could have ruined some of the exhaust, cat, sensors and did you see the other engine working ok before transplanting? If was remapped then that's more the Ecu not the engine. Never owned a B4 so might be worth checking if all engines interchangeable. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  23. Front anti roll bar loose making the rear stiffer than the front? As above with the brakes sticking. Also driving habits, if you are accelerating while turning one direction then decelerate as you are changing direction, could cause the back to come out. If you are using tyre pressures from the door/fuel cap/manual make sure the tyre sizes match Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  24. Bad idea? Had my 2001 legacy longer than any other car without something major gone wrong.. used it as a delivery car for most of the time, did have to change a few bits but really reliable if looked after! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  25. People on here usually use importcarparts.com In Norfolk there is a Subaru car breakers who sometimes have parts on eBay and so I guess if you need a part they could put a listing up for you to buy and they could post to you but I'm only guessing as they are quite close I just go down there.
