  1. How handy are you with a set of spanners ? Shouldn't be too hard if you have all the tools. Jack stands spring compressors and spanner/wrenches should be all you need. I've not had the pleasure of attacking the suspension on subarus yet but normally the hardest thing is access. Just allow yourself pelnty of time and have a sympathetic friend to help (pref one with an interest in cars haha. Lowering springs + tools + time = job done :-)
  2. Tried youtube ? Seems most weird noises or random car problems have been solved with the a of a video or two. I guess your car will be pretty unique as i suspect most owners won't have upgraded the diffs to full blown race spec stuff. You never know pop a vid up of the noise if you can, or a long shot email cusco and ask?
  3. Happy days, glad there's still some sport on free to air tv. Went to watch moto gp on weekend forgot that bt sport has bought he rights grrrrr !
  4. Yeah i bought a cheap chineese bluetooth odb reader from the bay. About 5quid and an android app (torque) for 1.80 or whatever, it works and enables you to read current and historic faults and clear them. Thought i'd take a punt as it was so cheap. Some work some don't. But much cheaper than a proper tool. Only problem is my foz has a ln odb style port butut's not odb haha
  5. I'd be wary of anyone who didnt let it warm up 1st before if you were going to test drive one. Definition= Pulls smoothly and strongly unlike some memebers on here :-D Youd know if something was amiss as it would be a pig to drive and sound like an asthmatic donkey I'd be inclined to take a diagnostic reader along but thats just me lol.
  6. Haha i like your forward planning. Just the usual really, knocking from bottom end etc, the newer 2.5 engines had some headgasket issues i beleive so may be worth researching that, Burning oil/turbo problems worn seals in the turbo. Blue smoke And making sure it comes on boost properly when on test drive
  7. Damn children ! I was gonna sell mine to my dad as he loved driving it that way i could have still taken it out for a blast now and then. The old dear put a stop to that plan though :-(
  8. Yep thats the one. Although looking at the revues i wouldn't order online haha
  9. Looks like they have had a clear out as it used to stretch further right. You can't take tools in so you wander round find what you want then they come annd remove it for you. May have changed since. Motorhog seem to be buying up all the smaller yards. Yeah mate i loved it it's only due to the baby that i changed to the foz
  10. No haha i can get there but thats about it. If you google something like jap breakers in batley should come up. It's behind a ralway line. Up a cobbled street anfd you have to go under the line to get to it i'll see if i can dig it out. I spent about an hour just wandering round last time. I was after mk1 mx5 bits. Bit of a dig through was worth it as it only cost 3quid for the bita
  11. :-( Theres a jap breakers in batley last time i went they had everything from bongos to gto's in. It used to be massive so if your ever over that way may be worth a poke around
  12. Ladies ? Near him thats stretching it a bit ;-)
  13. Did you manage to get the money back on the newage one ?
  14. I take it your on a td04 at the mo ? Around 260-270 :-)
  15. And pics if you decide she's the one for you. :-)
  16. Just wait untill you've driven it you'll be taking the long route to the shops trying to drive across feilds 'just to see how is copes' I'm looking forward to some snow :-) They run better on vpower too
  17. Or maybe a boost spike or wastgate not opening properly ?
  18. Hi mate, just to clarify what do you mean by surging ? Does the car keep accelerating when you lift off or at idle ? Sorry for daft question
  19. Are you buying private or trade ? If the belts are due try get the garage to do them or if private i'd haggle down the price a bit. Another good thing is that 90% of the parts are interchangeable with the same year impreza. Chances are that whoever upgaded to the ppp was obviously a car person, its an expensive bit of kit so i'm sure they looked after it
  20. Driven it ! Spent all week on a health kick gold to get back in the car again
  21. You'll notice a big difference more smiles and an engaging drive. :-) Standard forester x 160bhp Xt 225bhp Prodrive kit claims up to 250bhp and more torque, with remapped ecu ss exhaust and some other goodies. My first gen jdm foz was supposed to have around 240bhp when it came out of the factory. 17 years later it still feels fast enough. And pulls like a train. Obviously with the xt you'll have all the fun of a turbocharged all weather car. And the ability to stun people when they see how rapid the normal looking car is. The ride is comfy and you can push on to a degree, juat got to remember that it sits quite high off the floor so the centre of gravity is higher. An impreza it's not, wben it comes to the corners, I'm sure the standard x is a great car too and there are member on here who love them. But speak to anyone with a turbo'd car and they'll tell you the boost is addictive :-) I'd check service scheduals have stuck to and they have treated he car to reguar oil and filters, As for what to look for i'd take a look in the buying guide as it covers all subarus.
  22. Should be fine with a double din unit. May need a fitting kit but it should go in
  23. Bought a load of meguairs stuff 3 for 2 on all cleaning products and halfrauds. Got home to windy to do anthing today :-(
  24. You've obviously been drinking in upper class watering holes pete ! :-D Some geezer tried to sell me some night vision goggles once in the pub ! Ah yes i'll have a pint of stella and some ex russian military hardware please ! Wtf Do all the for sale sections work now ? This is one of the friendliest forums ive been on don't think o've ever seen anyone trying to flame anyones post etc. But a trusted poster/seller scheme would be good
