Hello all, as I am wanting to do some mods but not sure what, can people let me know how much their mods have put up their insurance?

Thanks in advance :)

mine were ok till i changed the brakes!! then i looked at a harness bar and harnesses and they wasnt happy and wanted ££££

power mods put it up a bit

My budget doesn't quite cover that!!! I think I will renew my insurance when it comes up and ask how much extra it would be for some modifications and then pick something in my budget that I deep "worth it"

what kind of mods you planning mate?

some stuff they say its ok but they wont replace with modded part i.e. coil overs

Cages, bigger brakes, bigger turbos get costly and a pain to try explain etc , my last one i changed the turbo and they wanted a engineer report!!

Also depends on how long you've been driving a scoob and how many yrs no claims .

As it cost me £200 more 3yrs ago to fully comp insure a standard uk turbo with a mainline insurance company .

Now i fully comp insure a 300 +hp sti with "like for like" on £4k's worth of listed modified parts with adrain flux

But I did hit 40 last year [emoji55] so probably get a coffin dodgers bonus [emoji4]

How much do you pay Savage?

As you said really does depend on loads of factors...the main one being how the insurer sees mods...some insurers specialist in the lower risk over 40's ford and bmw drivers

Think its about £500 for the premium with total value at £5k ish and 350 hp .

I've never had a claim though , it's parked off road, bell'd up nicely and I only do sub 4k miles .

I've spent so much time and effort rebuilding my car I drive like miss daisy .....

Well most of the time [emoji55]

My value is £4k and I do 12k miles. I'm 45 and it costs me £220 a year for standard car.

So there's a good comparison [emoji3]

I just insured my impreza turbo 2000. I'm 27 6yrs no claims and it cost £670. The broker told me my premium will not increase if I modify the car reasonably. When I asked him what that meant he just said don't go crazy. I said I'll be doing exhaust remap and possibly intake but these mods won't increase my premium. For anyone interested it was a quote by Keith michesls and the chap is called Gary Moulson.

Yeah they specialise in performance cars. Gary is the person to talk to never speak to anyone else there for a quote.

My insurance is 2500 for 12miles.... I'm 20 >.> not fun

Chris what car is that ? And how many ncb you got also. Fully comp or third party.?

2 years no claims, fully comp as third party doesn't seem to help, I have tried different combo out of curiosity and it's just the age,it drops alot at 21, no claims don't help much, also it's on a 2.5 Hawkeye

Opps

I miss read what you meant with cost of mods. I thought you was asking what people had spent on them not cost of them through the insurance :(  sorry mate :)

Ahh. That price is not that bad then. Considering its a 2.5 turbo your age and 2 years no claims, I have heard people getting quoted around 4k mark. Yeah I know crazy. Modwise you cant really do much as it will skyrocket your price. Only thing that you can do are mods that dont require declaring eg. Performance panel filter eg k&n, cosworth. Untill you are 25 and have more ncd m8 I would not put any mods on the car that needs to be declared.

Yea price is reasonable. I met a 26yo (I think he was, trying to remember the year he had tattooed onto his neck) with a green BMW M5. He was paying £450 a month + £1k deposit!! He said it would have been the same for an Impreza.

I didn't get to ask him about his driving history, by the way he drove around Id expect frequent accidents [emoji53]
