I own a 2004(54) blobeye with 91k on, got the engine covers off on the weekend whilst servicing it and I was met with this.....

Might be worth having a look as you can't see it with covers on, thus mot is not going to pick it up [emoji106]

Yup this is an issue with keeping the lower panels in place, water sits there and rots the subframes. Fortunately it is a reasonably straightforward job to repair / repaint or replace the units

I assume it's not an engine out job then? I'm fearing doing it lol

Any chance of a brief right up/idea on how to tackle it

As long as all the bolts come out (12 I think for some reason) it is a walk in the park, nothing nasty is bolted to it, just jack up car as you normally would (but not on the frame 🙄) and unbolt and remove

Supporting engine too I assume, gonna start this, this afternoon

No, not supporting the engine too, if it's the C frame it don't have anything to do with the engine or mounts

Just had another look at the pics, and it's not the C frame is it 😳

It's not the C frame but it's done now any way, not a bad job, couple of hours work :-)

Somebody had repaired the one on my 53 blob wagon and had welded the ARB brackets to the subframe 🙄 So chucked an sti one and steering rack in at the same time, did it on jacks, was nightmare lol

Red bit is the part I've just changed on mine, bold to the chassis legs and hold steering rack and engine

Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk

What's that part called bud? When I search subframe it don't match up.

  • Author

I'd call it a Subframe myself too to be honest, some one may be along soon to tell you what Subaru may call it tho lol
