Well that's the engine in bits, think I was a bit lucky 20161023_153955.jpg

Loads of questions to follow shortly

A bit lucky, it would appear that if you fell in a slurry pit you would come out smelling of roses

It makes a change, normally if it wasn't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all.

But it is my first subaru and I've only had it about 3 month

Oof how'd it go ? Any indication of impending bork or did it just throw a fit,

As you say least the bore looks like it seems to have escaped relatively well.

It was running nearly ok just smoked a bit compression test said was only on 3 so got a spare engine and gearbox but change of plan, just going to put new pistons and bearings in this one and maybe a tubular manifold.

Didn't know classics did this 😕

any car can. Failure rate on the 2.5 is just massively high by comparison. I'd want to find the cause before rebuilding. also need to check the block to see if its warped or ovaled etc

I had never seen or heard of ringland failure tidge, not in all my years of messing with cars, until I got the hawk

Will be having the bores checked but I work away all week and this weekend is a few beers with the boys so nothing will be done for next few weeks.

OK weekend over and recovered from back at work and parked up with nothing to do but look at parts price, looking on the bay of fleas 2.1 stroker kits at 1500 so would like peoples opinions/experience if to buy or not

Thanks

Scoobyclinic are right on your doorstep and can supply anything you need.

Other thing is are you going to build it yourself or get someone to? not the simplest of engines to build, need to make sure all tolerances are right etc etc

(I may be preaching to the choir here but better to say and not need, than not say and need)

I'd like to build it myself but being new to subaru would like some more experienced opinions on things, it's an open deck block what sort of power can it cope with? is it worth paying for forged pistons and rods, the stroker it is forged parts but for the extra cost you get crank and acl bearings .

Opps, just realised it's a 2.0 not a 2.5.

first port of call is find out how bad the damage is to the block, if its scrap then onto deciding what route you wanna go. Even if the block is fine you will obviously need pistons and rods may as well be done.

It's all gonna be very dependant on budget

I thought the mahle pistons were forged but if not I'll go without the extra 100cc and just go for forged 2l I don't want to have to rebuild the !Removed! thing twice
