Rod knock

Unfortunately even listening to it on a video,  its difficult to know where the sound is coming from .

Anything from a blowing downpipe ,cracked header , sticky cam lifter or piston slap can sound like knock .

Normally low sounding metallic sound that increases in volume and speed with engine revs from 1.5 to 3k

used to use this technique for bearings and gauge internals on board, one of the first things I was shown 👍

If you wedge a cut down bottle or funnel on end of handle it amplifies the sounds much cleaner and don't need poke it in your ear .

Rod knock pretty easy recognise once heard a few, tends be most audible if rev to 2k and quickly lift off .
Very minimal rod knock can be hard concluded 100%  .

Damn it, why have I never thought of that.
My dad first showed me that when I was a kid but not the funnel upgrade.
