Godspeed's Brembo big brake kit
Siluro replied to Siluro's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
Spoken to Godspeed and they do not supply the spring washer any more with the kit which I had to remove to fit inside the standard 17inch wheels. -
Wash it. Hand polish and wax. Used a clay mitt for first time. You can feel the rough paint with the mitt.

Hawkeye WRX various dash and interiror lights question
Siluro replied to Ellazak86's topic in Subaru Interiors
I was explaining what my Hawkeye does for Ellazak86 even though it is quite old. I did not think there was a problem until you replied. Do you get a dashboard light for the main beam? I will have to check the manual. Cheers -
How are PF pads? Interested to know?

Hawkeye WRX various dash and interiror lights question
Siluro replied to Ellazak86's topic in Subaru Interiors
2007 Hawkeye WRX. No dash light for lights being on. Only high beam, blue icon right hand top side. Rear fog lights only display icon on dashboard front fogs don't but button lights up. Rear fog light button does not light up. My front fogs light up when button is pressed no delay. Hope that helps -
EJ25 Oil pick up pipe issues
Siluro replied to Siluro's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
Thanks Kershaw, Sounds like I am doing the right thing. I first uprated the brakes added an air oil separator and last week had her mapped by Duncan @ racedynamix. Car has only done 36k so I should be all right for a while. I hate struggling any car at low RPM, pet hate. I think 2.5 gets treated a bit unfairly as in standard form it is probably ok but how many kids bolt things on and as you say do not get it mapped. Poor motors being over boosted running on oil that has not been changed in 12+K etc... Regular services and fluids and sensible mods with a map will make them last much longer. -
Recommendations for scooby specialist in or around Northamptonshire? Willing to get my hands dirty but don't have any where to do it myself other in the busy street outside my house. Cheers

Godspeed's Brembo big brake kit
Siluro replied to Siluro's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
Thinking about what you said about stopping in the wet is bad. That will be your tyres not the brakes, in the end the brakes can only be as good as the tyres will let them be for stopping distances. How do you use the car. Daily driving, track days, thrashing down b roads? -
EJ25 Oil pick up pipe issues
Siluro replied to Siluro's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
I realise there are many possibilities for issues as with any car, but how many result in complete engine failure like a broken pick up pipe? Replacing this is cheap really for the piece of mind. Just wanted to work out where my money is best spent as my WRX has only 36k and I have just had it mapped. Car is all standard engine wise. -
I know he indicated but I was looking at the pedestrian crossing just past the exit. I should have avoided this really. Only cosmetic and I did swear at him. His insurance paid out due to the video. Only bought the dashcam 7 days prior only had the car 3 months too, gutted. First accident in many years. The guy said i came racing down the inside, whatever. Should have seen his face drop when I said it does not matter what you think it is all on dashcam.

Been reading about the failures of the OEM oil pick up pipe. Quite common it seems even on low mileage cars. Anyone had the issue? killer bee seems to be the only updated replacement i can find. Are there other options? £200 for the killer bee is cheap compared to a new motor.

Godspeed's Brembo big brake kit
Siluro replied to Siluro's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
What pads did you get? Did you heat cycle them? Before i did they were disappointing. I agree there initial bite is a bit vague but they are miles better than OEM which are just dangerous. My main issue was the fade. Now there is none or none compared to OEM. I honestly think the ABS ruins the pedal feel plus a different master cylinder may help but that's another whole thread + trail and error. Brake feel is also subjective. Every 80s early 90s car i have driven without ABS feel much nicer. APs will be much better but twice the price? Hope you get what your after. Please let us know. -
Ask Scoobyworld.

Glad you sorted it and was simple.

Catch can... Talk to me.
Siluro replied to Xander's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
Old topic i know. I have grimspeed aos installed. I like the idea as it is an easy install and uses the heat from the head to evaporate any water from the oil, some catch cans don't have heat added. Others you have to tap off the coolant through it. If you track day your car a lot then I would not recommend the grimspeed but for daily driver yes. I am sure the car feels snappier and just runs nicer. Maybe placebo due to the cost. When you take it off you can see it has separated some oil. Less chance of knock, detonation and lowering your octane. -
Hi i am new here too. Good forum.

I bought my 2007 WRX back in Feb 2017 which had 1000 miles on fresh OEM front disks and pads fitted. These brakes were just plain unsafe, the fade was horrible after giving her a thrash around the lanes. I also owned a classic sport in the past which you could get to fade but not as bad as the WRX. So my first mod was the brakes. After research I found 3 solutions within budget: 1. Second hand STI Brembo swap 2. Godspeed's standard Subaru 4 pot big brake conversion kit 3. Godspeed's own Brembo brake kit 330mm disks with 2 piece disks and performance friction pads. https://www.godspeedbrakes.co.uk/impreza-1993-1998-wrx/244-brand-new-brembo-4-pot-kit-with-330mm-2-piece-discs-and-bells.html I wanted to fit this myself and wanted new parts. Godspeed's conversion of the standard 4 pots with larger pads sounded good but looking at the setup I decided I did not like the amount of pad that sticks out of the calipers for 600 notes. I decided to buy Godspeed's Brembo kit as it will fit under my standard 17inch wheels, plus it is all brand new and not reconditioned. £1000. Think the calipers are used on Alphas and Renaults which they made a bracket for the Subaru. Fitting was fairly straight forward, I also replaced the standard hoses for braided ones. At the same time a found the right rear caliper had seized, so I bought new stainless steel pistons and new seals and refurbished the rears. Car had only done 30k miles so i was surprised by this. I guess age and little use gets to them after 10 years. I also replaced the rear disks with Godspeed slotted disks and Kevlar pads and new Brembo 5.1 fluid. The front kit will fit 17inch wheels but i had to remove the lock washers under the caliper bolts to clear the inside circumference of wheel (used tiny amount of blue thread lock instead). Also the wheel weights needed to be moved to the inside edge of the wheel else they would just rub on the top of the new calipers. Clearance is tight. I have had them on the car for 6 months and the improvement is massive. On the same stretch of road the standard brakes would fade so bad that they would be smoking when stopped at a junction half way through the 8 mile route. I had to get out and check there was not a fire. They just could not cope with more than 2 hard stops from 90mph to 0. Fade was huge and the pedal would go to floor. Now the new kit easily copes with the same route with no fade at all. I must admit I am still not keen with the pedal feel and I have bleed them twice since fitting but the car is so much safer. Only thing I notice now is a humming noise when braking from high speed which I presume is due to the slotted disks. I thought I would share this as I could not find any reviews on the kit but I suppose most go for STI Brembo swap which I imagine are better still (never driven STI so cannot compare). Also as the calipers are much lighter and now the car feels smoother. The unsprung weight is reduced which is another bonus. Two piece disks look cool as well. Brake dust is also much less too but this may be down to losing the old guards. Pricey but I got the results I was after and a far safer car. Hope this helps someone.

Bit of luck, not only would it cost an arm and a leg in travel but you'd need to sell your house to cover the cost of all the work clinic find your car "needs" doing. Let alone leaving it with them. Have a Google for what they did to another chaps Impreza. Short story, they deliberatly hit potholes to cause damage as video footage proves. Then threatened him with legal action after going public. They mugged him off and ate humble pie for it. Well that is far more a serious issue than what Tidgy was saying about Duncan. Caught red handed ouch. Hard to trust anybody these days.

Starting the car and driving it right away?
Siluro replied to Martin959's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
I always wait for a few minutes before I drive from cold especially when it is in minus figures, and then I take it steady until she is up to temp. Pulling ofs straight after starting cannot do any car any good. To give you an idea my coolant got down to -2 C after sitting overnight when it was -4 C last month. Only takes a couple of minutes to get 40C on fast idle. -
Power graphs for reference

Yeah they must be both above £500K. BHP is expensive and then up rating everything else to cope with 910+bhp. Subaru spent far more on their latest FOS hill climb car last year and it was still 1 second slower than the Gobstopper 2. They probably spent more on just the drivetrain than RCM did on most of their car.

To be honest with you no he did not road test it. I must admit now you mention it that is probably a good idea. No problems though so far. I take it Tidgy you prefer Scoobyclinic and I did look at them but I am to far south to travel that far. If there are any issues I will post on the forum.
