  1. When they're babies you can't wait for them to start walking and talking, when they do you wish they were babies again, it's all worth it though I forgot to say before, what oil is in the engine at the moment? Now we're heading for the cold it's a good idea to have a 40 weight rather than a heavier 60 weight, the heavier is good when it's warm but could put too much strain on the internals when cold, always start the car with the clutch in when cold as this puts less strain on cranking when the oils thickest, also the knocking and slapping is basically the same noise, its louder when the big end bearings go as there excess movement on the rods causing them to flail about
  2. I check with the engine off, the dipstick is to the left of the intercooler just down a bit from the side of it, as for oil it depends on what you can get and what you want to spend, castrol syntrax works very well in Scoobys, but you can get better, viscosity should be 75w-90 Silkolene Silktran Syn 5 is good stuff for a good condition box Motul Gear 300 and Redline Lightweight Shockproof are better if the box has any signs of wear
  3. if i was to own or indeed mod a jag it could only be one of these
  4. i think you could go up to 17's with a lower profile tyre, what you gain in alloy you lose in tyre, if that makes sense the wheels that were on mine from new would have been 15's, the wheels i have now are 17's, i recently got the 17's off my mates fozzy and he put 15" speedlines on, being lowered i didn't think they would go on without the mudflaps hitting the floor, when i put the 15's against the 17's they were the same height as the low profiles on the 17's and massive sidewalls on the 15's made the equal overall
  5. i've always preferred the crystals on the classics and have done the same myself, i have the original big indicator bumper with crystal headlights and fog lights that i got for free from Dogma, cheers pal, it just makes them look cleaner imo
  6. lol, what golf is it? am i right in thinking you said mk4 at some point? i have been on vag forums for over 10 years so i may well know your username, it's not N1ck is it?
  7. i'm 6' 5" 18 stone and have a shaved head and goatee, people say i look similar to stone cold Steve Austin the wrestler, i have 4 kids in total with 3 women, i cried at every single birth ;) nothing to be ashamed of, it's one of the most emotional things a man can ever experience
  8. if you do an advert for the golf here i can spread it about on some of the vag forums i'm on if you like, or i can give you a list of said forums
  9. you could take off what you want to keep and then advertise the rest for a week on ebay as breaking for spares then when it's done scrap the rest
  10. in fairness a lot of other forums are uptight about most things as it doesn't go with THEIR view of ideal cars or what you SHOULD do to a scooby, the forums with a more laid back attitude like here, basically you do what YOU like and that's all that matters, are not as busy to start with but word gets round that you don't get judged by your car and people start gathering as they have here and it takes off as a friendly banter welcome forum, THATS what forums should be about
  11. glad it's sorted pal, always seems to be the easy problems that you don't see till you've rebuilt the car
  12. oh and if your thinking of breaking a car to make more money, i got peanuts for the parts off the one i broke a few months ago, most bits sold for 99p and others i still have as they didn't sell, doesn't seem to be a big demand for the bits
  13. i'm not sure on the master cylinder now after seeing them pics, ones i have done in the past from cable clutch and hydro clutch nave been identical in shape and pipe position bar the extra pipe in front of the brake pipe for the hydro clutch, i don't want to say go for it in case it's wrong, call Brian at Cams and he should be able to advise whats best 07931 211 871 01254 689 994
  14. i think i just did a little s*x wee over them pics, very nice shiny metal with lots of thought gone into future power upgrades i assume? welcome aboard too btw, nice to have you here, which lights have you kept on the car the late spec clears?
  15. yeh they run miles better on optimax from shell or ultimate from bp, tesco also do 100 ron i believe, i've had issues with asdas petrol in the past on other cars, they seem to run rough on it like it's watered down type of thing do you know how to clear the codes? unplug the battery for an hour or more and they clear from the system, if there are no faults store after the clear the check engine light just does a constant flash, no pattern to it as such
  16. yeh just a cap or bolt that's the same as the thread in there already, if you take the extra nut out that you may get with a second hand unit you could take it to an autofactors and they should be able to match it with the correct bolt/blank, for extra piece of mine you could put some brake fluid resistant sealant on the threads or some ptfe tape, i don't think leakage would be an issue but better safe than sorry, it's not long since i threw loads of sport bits out as i didn't think i'd be able to get shut, i can't guarantee its the same so measure both the turbo and sport units and make sure its just the extra hole that's different, i've fitted masters from other cars with the same in the manufacturers range on less similar cars before and subaru seem to share a lot of their parts within the family
  17. i'm on scooby net and lads forum and neither of them have me posting as much as on here, so far i don't think i've had any of my random waffling edited or removed unlike other forums, i like the freedom to say what i think without it being the wrong opinion all the time so i just stay on here and rarely browse the rest tbh
  18. i would imagine that the leggy turbo and non turbo will be the same fit from the cat back, i know the impreza and forester systems are more or less the same bar about 6" on the end, Dogma fitted his non turbo impreza exhaust to his turbo forester and just added a bit extra to the end to clear the rear bumper on another note, what's up with your back? if you don't mind me asking, i was told i'd be in a wheelchair by now and so far that's not happened, touch wood, as i broke my back some 13 years ago now, i'm on a proper concoction of pills but refuse to go for the op, i have not just got the fracture but the disc below the fracture has prolapsed and they want to either remove and fuse it or replace it or just cut the excess off, having a needle phobia is putting me off going in though, plus they said it wasn't going to get rid of the back pain just the sciatica and i can cope with that to be fair anywhoooo
  19. yeh imports are dearer to insure purely for the fact it's not a uk car, my neighbours 3.0 td hilux was £1500 on a quote as was a 97 import impreza, my uk turbo 2000 on a 97 plate is less than £500 a year, i was able to get a classic policy on it so that helped mpg on a sport over the turbo is dramatically better, Dogma had a uk turbo and a steady drive to his cousins would see us filling the tank again before heading back, in his sport it was less than half a tank both ways so could have done it twice
  20. and regarding tints, i have found that submerging the glass in the bath, or a kiddies paddling pool is bay far the easiest way to get great results, obviously you can't just pop a back screen out but for that i found talcum powder on the non sticky side of the film helps the squeegee tool glide over the film without scratching it
  21. i think single pipes are ok oval but twin ovals i'm not so keen, but it's how YOU want it to look that matters, just because we wouldn't like it doesn't mean you wouldn't, you'd get a better idea by looking at some images on google
  22. the symptoms you give are signs of air in the system, if it's been flushed/bled thoroughly and it's not cured then you could have a leak in the servo, master cylinder or any of the 4 calipers, you could use the turbo one and blank off the hole for the hydro clutch
  23. i have the single din slot in mine and was told if i get the double din equivalent panel it's just a simple case of swapping that section, can has to be same spec dash as yours though, for my impreza it has to be the pre facelift dash section, as for the wood, as said you could vinyl wrap it, a heat gun and a vinyl squeegee would be handy to have as well as a damn sharp craft knife, if you want the matte carbon to look more realistic just give it a few coats of lacquer, warm the lacquer as your spraying and it gives a shiny finish without needing a polish
  24. 1-Pressure sensor 2-Pressure exchange solenoid valve 3-Wastegate control solenoid valve 4-MAP sensor 5-Oxygen sensor 6-Vehicle speed sensor 2 7-Engine coolant temperature sensor 8-Throttle position sensor 9-Idle switch 10-Idle air control solenoid valve 11-Knock sensor 12-Camshaft position sensor 13-Crankshaft position sensor 14-Purge control solenoid valve
  25. sometimes cleaning them can fix it, i had a clio in once that a garage had diagnosed a faulty head gasket and it was just the crank sensor at fault, took it off, cleaned the carbon off it and refitted and it was good for a couple of years till the owner upgraded to a newer car
