  1. that's basically what i was saying, the higher weight isn't always good in the colder weather and it's gonna be in there over winter so i'd use 10/40 fully syn over the winter months, as for the noise, this is the first subie i have had and i was coming up a hill at 40mph one day in 5th and everytime i went past a high side i could hear my engine knocking, i dropped a gear and it was fine, back up to 5th and heard it again, went into asda car park and had the boonnet up listening at different revs and it seemed fine, turned out it was a chunk of heat shield that had rusted through where the nuts were and was sitting on the manifold, it only rattled when the engine was more prone to wobble i.e. at 40mph in 5th up a hill, makes you worry though when you first hear it, but yeh mines always noisy when first fired up, goes when warm, typical subie noise i think and i wouldn't worry too much
  2. this guys on coil overs
  3. lol sorry bud, been a few caught out with it, i was when i first saw it on another forum a few years ago, took a few attempts before i realised it wasn't real
  4. welcome to the forum bud, if you don't mind me asking, is the insurance expensive for you on an import? mine is a uk classic and is 5x cheaper than the quotes i got for an import, just wondering if theres somewhere that specialises in import insurance as i couldn't find any when i was getting a subie
  5. sorry to have to say this but it sounds like you may have head gasket failure mate, sludgy oil usually indicates oil and water mixing which is one sign and the excess pressure build up is another :(
  6. welcome aboard fella, that is one sparkly fozzy indeed, do you valet for a living? or just have OCD like a few of us?
  7. sorry about the Jackie Brown movie non reply, you were indeed correct, it ets hectic here sometimes and i can't always get time to come on here but i do try my best no then, the movie you have posted is Man On Fire?! also Samuel Jacksons best role of all time is Pulp Fiction's Jules Ezekiel 25:17 The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee. The single coolest line from Pulp Fiction
  8. That being said the top one will be on air too as it's got a rayvern sticker in the window
  9. The middle one is on hydraulics and has an awesome boot build that I can't find pics of anywhere
  10. Ok I mustn't have chatted to you about much then as it doesn't ring any bells, I'll have to review my posts on the forums now lol, ukmkivs.net clubgti and unphased were my main haunts, ed38 I've been banned from posting on, UK passats I go on every now and again, the list goes on lol
  11. When they're babies you can't wait for them to start walking and talking, when they do you wish they were babies again, it's all worth it though I forgot to say before, what oil is in the engine at the moment? Now we're heading for the cold it's a good idea to have a 40 weight rather than a heavier 60 weight, the heavier is good when it's warm but could put too much strain on the internals when cold, always start the car with the clutch in when cold as this puts less strain on cranking when the oils thickest, also the knocking and slapping is basically the same noise, its louder when the big end bearings go as there excess movement on the rods causing them to flail about
  12. I check with the engine off, the dipstick is to the left of the intercooler just down a bit from the side of it, as for oil it depends on what you can get and what you want to spend, castrol syntrax works very well in Scoobys, but you can get better, viscosity should be 75w-90 Silkolene Silktran Syn 5 is good stuff for a good condition box Motul Gear 300 and Redline Lightweight Shockproof are better if the box has any signs of wear
  13. Haha, if it's not been sussed by tomorrow I'll post a clue
  14. if i was to own or indeed mod a jag it could only be one of these
  15. really?? i thought this would be a hard one, i don't know many people that liked this film so not a lot have seen it since it first came out, i love the director of this film and have seen all his films lots and lots of times over, a couple in particular i know word for word, which much to my wifes annoyance i quote when watching, also this particular film, i want the car alarm from the car outside, that might be a clue for you :D
  16. i think you could go up to 17's with a lower profile tyre, what you gain in alloy you lose in tyre, if that makes sense the wheels that were on mine from new would have been 15's, the wheels i have now are 17's, i recently got the 17's off my mates fozzy and he put 15" speedlines on, being lowered i didn't think they would go on without the mudflaps hitting the floor, when i put the 15's against the 17's they were the same height as the low profiles on the 17's and massive sidewalls on the 15's made the equal overall
  17. i've always preferred the crystals on the classics and have done the same myself, i have the original big indicator bumper with crystal headlights and fog lights that i got for free from Dogma, cheers pal, it just makes them look cleaner imo
  18. lol, what golf is it? am i right in thinking you said mk4 at some point? i have been on vag forums for over 10 years so i may well know your username, it's not N1ck is it?
  19. i'm 6' 5" 18 stone and have a shaved head and goatee, people say i look similar to stone cold Steve Austin the wrestler, i have 4 kids in total with 3 women, i cried at every single birth ;) nothing to be ashamed of, it's one of the most emotional things a man can ever experience
  20. if you do an advert for the golf here i can spread it about on some of the vag forums i'm on if you like, or i can give you a list of said forums
  21. you could take off what you want to keep and then advertise the rest for a week on ebay as breaking for spares then when it's done scrap the rest
  22. that's an easy one, Philadelphia, that was a proper controversial film when it came out, i remember that well, Tom Hanks played a blinder in that film, one of the best roles he ever did imo
  23. in fairness a lot of other forums are uptight about most things as it doesn't go with THEIR view of ideal cars or what you SHOULD do to a scooby, the forums with a more laid back attitude like here, basically you do what YOU like and that's all that matters, are not as busy to start with but word gets round that you don't get judged by your car and people start gathering as they have here and it takes off as a friendly banter welcome forum, THATS what forums should be about
  24. glad it's sorted pal, always seems to be the easy problems that you don't see till you've rebuilt the car
