  1. well, been a short while since my last post but it was only yesterday i got the call, again telling me for the second time from a second assessor the cars a cat c write off, when i got my car insurance i gave myself a huge excess based on the fact if the crash was my fault i'd repair or sell the car myself, if it was another persons fault i wouldn't have to pay the £500, the woman who hit me is now saying i hit her so i have to pay the excess, i got a call yesterday from the assessor saying the repairs would cost £1850 so the cars a write off, they value the car at £950, minus the excess is £450, i can buy back for £108 (which is what i'm going to do so with the rest i'm supposed to be able to buy parts and get it painted, he said he's found numerous 97 impreza turbos for between £900 and £1000 so that's where the figure came from, i spent 5 hours yesterday trying to find one with his criteria, 60 miles or less from my house, upto £1000 for the car, 97 turbo 2000 impreza wagon with around 155k on the clock, which he said was high mileage for it's age??? where does he get this crap, i found nothing at all anywhere, i have 2 A4 pages of websites looked at and not one has the cars he's "seen" time for an argumentative phone call me thinks
  2. It's not showing on a reg check and comes back as not insured on an insurance check and there are no details on dvla database either, this could be one of 2 things, either it's had a private plate put on or its been written off, sorry I couldn't be of more help or bring better news, I hope it's just a plate change and that you do manage to find it, and welcome to the forum pal
  3. The wife's first car was a write off in the first 12 months, she was on her way back from uni on the m6 and a set of ladders fell off a tipper transit in the 3rd Lane, she had the crash barrier and an artic to either side and pinballed between the 2, the traffic wobbles kept the ladders and as the driver of the tipper didn't stop it was deemed as the wife's fault, took over 2 years to get it sorted, and 4 years to get a successful claim for her damaged wrist that she still suffers with now, they are great at taking money from you but not keen on giving it back Sent from my Nexus 7
  4. There's a bloke relatively local to me that's had the subies for sale, 2 white classics and a blue blob, the classics are both at 2.5k and look sweet as, I was gonna ask him how much he'd sell one for if I bring my own wheels lol Insurance runs out on the 22nd and as the wife's not got a job yet I think I'll just start stripping the wagon and play it by ear from there, ideally could do with the savings for the mortgage Sent from my Nexus 7
  5. we have a few problems with false claims in the Lancashire area, there's a crew of people driving round with no brake light bulbs, they wait for an obvious gap in traffic at a roundabout then pull out, as you follow looking at the traffic they brake hard causing you to rear end them and then they suddenly go from being alone in the car to having 5 people all with whiplash, this makes the policies in that area sky rocket
  6. no, the only witnesses were 3 passengers in my car, they said as they are my passengers it's not an unbiased version of events, i don't know whether to use what funds i have to get a car on the hope they find in my favour or having the luck i do it may be best to wait it out as i probably won't get anything lol i wouldn't mind but she kept saying sorry at the scene so i didn't call the plod as i assumed she was admitting it being her fault
  7. we pay so much because of the idiots that claim for whiplash after a 5mph bump up a kerb
  8. came home yesterday after forking out over £600 for the wifes dual mass on her car to find a letter on the door mat, opens it up and it's a solicitors letter saying the woman who clipped my car is denying it was her fault, this is gonna be so much fun tell you what, if i didn't have bad luck i'd have none at all
  9. welcome aboard pal, classic saloons are GC8 classic wagons are GF8, it says on the vin plate for the model code, only really an issue when getting parts
  10. welcome aboard fella, looks really tidy that, great to see an almost standard one still exists too, love the lamp covers :)
  11. welcome aboard pal, or should i say g'day mate? ;)
  12. welcome aboard pal, look forward to benefiting from your knowledge and having some banter with you ;)
  13. I've used direct line in the past when I had my first accident, taxi ploughed into the side of the car, although direct line were top notch with everything the company the employed to repair the car was extremely incompetent and I vowed never to use direct line again as they don't allow you to choose where the cars taken Sent from my Nexus 7
  14. Same here, had 3 accidents in the years I've been driving, 2 were non fault and one was into the back of a parked car after hitting ice on the hill from my house, I had the car repaired before I got the call back from the insurance company and they said although the other fella claimed for his repairs the fact I didn't claim for mine my no claims wasn't affected Sent from my Nexus 7
  15. don't use the company i'm with, they are tossers NCI
  16. imports don't show up on uk insurance computers via the reg so unless the log book says GL you can't get away with cheap insurance, there were no uk WRX cars or STI's until after the classic shape, all classics are turbo 2000 models for uk ones, i looked at an import before i got my wagon, that just said impreza 2.0 on the log book, i tried to blag it for the insurance but they wouldn't accept it
  17. use the summer wheels and tyres just before winter for some sideways fun and winter wheels with winter tyres fitted and all the fun you like going sideways just before you fit summer wheels back on, that way you can buy 1 tyre every month rather than all 4 at once and it doesn't seem as expensive :D getting a bit peeved with this insurance company now accident happened boxing day, called insurance the day after to give em chance to be sorted after xmas in the office, they took all the info and said a company called Kindertons would be in touch as they will be dealing with it all same day Kindertons called and said they were dealing with it all and took all the info, they said they would be in touch to arrange a courtesy car day after a breakers yard calls and said they were calling on behalf of my insurers as they are down south they wanted to pick the car up to store it until the insurance could collect for inspection, i said i'd call them back when i've spoken to insurance called insurers, they denied all knowledge and told me to talk to Kindertons as they do all the arranging called Kindertons they said it was nothing to do with them must be the insurer, called the ins, they said not to let them touch the car at all, called the breakers and repeated this they said it was fine few mins later ins calls me and had a go at me for cancelling the breakers picking the car up i told them the situation they said they'd look into it 2 days later northern assessors called and said they'd come on the Monday to inspect the car on the drive to assess damage day after Kindertons called and said JP morris was coming Tuesday to look at the car  i mentioned about the first ones they said nothing to do with them, called ins again no knowledge Monday comes and goes no calls or visits, Tuesday the JP guy came, looked at it and left Thursday Kindertons called and said it's a cat C write off and the ins would be in touch to sort an amount and cheque Monday just gone a salvage yard in Dorset called to collect the car for scrapping, i told them the insurance still hadn't given me a price and the fact i wanted the car back, they apologised and said they would contact ins for me, few hours later ins called and said they needed to send an assessor out ??? i told them they had been one already they said that was for Kindertons (the accident management company working on behalf of the insurance) and they needed their own to look at the car, a bit dumbfounded and confused i just said right then do what you need to and put the phone down get's a call yesterday from an accident repair company locally, they said they wanted to pick the car up for repair, i again informed this guy that the car apparently needed assessing again as it's supposed to be a write off, he was not aware of this and said he would come get the car Friday to be looked at, i mentioned the last guy came to the house to do that he said "oh ok, i can send someone out for 4pm today if that's good for you" so last night i had it assessed again, just waiting to hear from them now see what THIS result yields, what an absolute farce all the while i have not had a courtesy car nor have i been offered one or asked if i need one :(
  18. welcome aboard pal, look forward to seeing some pics, i can honestly say you made a good choice coming into the subie fold
  19. welcome aboard fella as said enjoy the stay and don't be shy to share pics ;) some of the car would be good too :D
  20. biggest pain in the !Removed! is white on a car, wax and polish dries white so you have to keep tilting your head to see the shiny and dull patches and any black trim thats left un polished for a few months tends to bleed marks into the white from the rain, nothing a good machine polish can't fix
  21. ohhh a white wagon, that's tempting, i'll bear that in mind when i know what i'm getting money wise, cheers pal, do you have any pics and spec?
  22. i passed my test and got a chavalier as my first car, fitted a 2.0 red top engine, dropped it 60mm on 15's plus some other goodies, went from that to a vectra for a few months then the wife got pregnant so i bought a mk2 golf gti, it had 5 doors and a boot big enough for the pram so it stayed, imo as long as you have rear doors and a boot to fit a pram/pushchair as said already then you have a family car lol
  23. your not far wrong Gambit, although when the wifes in the car i drive like a granny, the accident was at granny speeds, it would be easy enough to get it sorted, the door is easy enough to replace then the rest would just need a wetsand and polish but with the recent engine issues i may as well take advantage of it being written off, saves worrying about future engine issues and if i get chance i want to strip the engine down and see what this steel seal has done and Savage, i'd e very interested if it was a facelift model and a uk spec, my insurance more than triples with the import models and i'm not a fan of the grill, lights and bonnet vents on the V1/2 i'm hoping to get a white GC8 if i can find one in the price of my payout, trouble is i still don't know how much i'm getting so theres a fair few saved on the phone and laptop so far
  24. it was just a scrape, literally, offside rear door and rear quarter have scrape marks, doors concaved, rear offside alloy was caught on every !Removed! spoke, tbh that's what i'm more peeved about lol next i'm gonna get something different, i think maybe a GC8, always feel i'm missing something when i'm in the wagon, preferably a V4 as i want a cup holder and an armrest lol at the moment i have the facelift cleat lights and fogs, i have 2 de cat's (one fitted) with full stainless system with just the back box as a baffle, i have a turbo timer (APEXI) 4 pot front brakes with drilled and grooved discs, forge vent to atmosphere valve, WR1 replica alloys in white, mini scoop for the offside bonnet vent, sony bluetooth headunit, HKS FCD, adjustable boost valve, 52mm boost gauge in bar, 52mm oil pressure gauge in psi both white face and blue lit and a pipercross foam cone filter all the above in red are the non standard V3 stuff, and they will only be available if they are not needed or don't fit on the next car i get, all other parts will be available if wanted when the cars being stripped, if theres anything anybody needs from a V6 GC8 i have some parts left over, full dashboard and stalks, no clocks though various interior and exterior trims too, A pillar trims are in black unlike my wagon which are cream/beige
