  1. Well, to go with the somewhat good news I had today I'm now back to the bad luck I attract, took the kids to school this morning in the subie as per, stopped off at the bank to get some cash for the plumber coming round, comes back and nipped to euro car parts to order some bits for the wife's car, came home all good, goes to the car at 2.40 and just as it's about to fire it gives a tiny pop and goes to just the starter cranking, a few attempts and nothing just constant cranking, runs across to the neighbour to borrow their car, gets kids, comes home, cranks subie and a little stutter like it's gonna fire then back to just cranking, buggered if I know what it is and even more buggered if I'm gonna mess about in the torrential downpour Sent from my Nexus 7
  2. green leather? yeh seen that, i'm determined to get a saloon, gonna see just what i get first and then see whats about, is that white one yours?
  3. HAHA RESULT, just got a call back from the insurance and they are now coming round to my way of thinking, his exact words were, "i have done some more research since we last spoke and to be fair they are more in the top end of the price range we discussed, with that in mind if you can get some cars that qualify the criteria of your current vehicle we will be happy once reviewed to make a payment to you for that value" well i'm off to trawl the websites looking for a new car :D :D :D :D :D
  4. my car has just been certified a cat c write off, the rear door has been struck lightly and a small scrape on the rear quarter, it would cost them £1850 t repair with genuine parts so it's a write off, if i keep the car, which i am for the time being, i don't need to get it SVA'd nor does it affect my policy, if i sell the car i am required by law to notify the new owner of the cat c status and the new owner must get it SVA'd to make sure it's road worthy, there is no chassis damage and i have 2 kids that are in the car most of the time and i'm happy to drive it as is, i'm sure you are given a copy of the test to tell you what damage it's had/got so you can determine if you feel safe to drive it
  5. i tried that but she never looks on mine anymore as it's just full of stuff i want but don't need, she said if the car NEEDS it i can buy it, funny how many things my cars have NEEDED in the past, she is learning more every day about cars so it won't be long before she cottons on lol
  6. the cat kills a lot of the noise, i have a decat pipe for a classic impreza, not sure if it's the same fit but if it is then i can sell it to you if interested, i'd wait for someone else with a bit more knowledge to reply whether it'll fit yours or not
  7. i used to be a keen cyclist and there are too many drivers that don't car about them on the roads, i always kept as far left as i could and never road at night without a light coloured jacket and some lights, i do give a cyclist a wide birth when i'm driving but ones like the one you encountered or some riding side by side or have way across the road i will drive as close as possible and give them a blast of the airhorn, they want respect from us then they should extend us the same courtesy and follow the rules of the road i also cut my handle bars down to get them as short as possible so when in traffic coming to a red light i'm not likely to clip a wing mirror
  8. grease it up, try it a few times if it still sticks i'd get a new cable as it could be stretched, i don't think there is the option to tighten/adjust it i'm afraid, a quick look, it's about £20 for a new cable
  9. welcome aboard fella i hope you enjoy your stay ;)
  10. welcome aboard fella i hope you enjoy your stay ;)
  11. just had a quick search and according to some people on pistonheads they say logos on centre caps of wheels, logo on exhaust and a certificate from prodrive, obviously the exhaust and centre caps aren't concrete confirmation but they did say you can contact Subaru uk on 0121 522 2000 as all PPP cars get registered on their system
  12. does the ecu not get a prodrive sticker on it as a seal, sure i've seen one like that somewhere?!
  13. welcome aboard pal, hope you enjoy your stay ;)
  14. yeh they asked me to draw a diagram so i got a screen shot of the area on google earth and edited it in paint to show what happened and where, as for companies, i have been looking around as my policy ende on the 21 of this month and AVIVA were the cheapest i found so far, they ranged from 2k to £420 so a massive difference to the top price
  15. this is a company local to me but when i had a car with a sigma they were able to advise me on what to do with regards to the keypad as i didn't have any idea why it was there lol http://www.basesystems.com/
  16. for me i think it's down to personal preference, if you want it for performance then Adam is the man to heed, if you want it for cosmetic reasons then a vta one will suit, if your not sure if the noise will be to your taste you can get adjustable ones that allow you to switch from vta to recirc, i think they are turbo smart ones, mines a forge one on a classic and it's a hellova lot louder than the baileys one on my mates classic, mine also comes apart and was quite quiet when i got the car, i pulled it apart and cleaned and greased it all up and it's a lot better not, on low boost it's like a little stutter on full boost it's a massive whooooooooootishhhhhhhh definitely hear me coming lol
  17. welcome aboard fella
  18. welcome aboard pal, nice motor ;)
  19. welcome aboard, lovely looking motor, my fave of all imprezas is the face lift classic from 97-01, i like all imprezas including the bug but the bug sport wagon just looks fugly, the bug can look so much nicer with a different set of headlights and the side markers de tangoed edit* as for fun to drive, i've owned a modified vauxhall modified classic mini, modified mk2,3 golf gti and the V6 mk4 golf and the classic, i've driven all manner of cars (monster in laws boyfriend is a trade plater) some of the most memorable were a lotus elise, porsche 911 and a boxster s, a saab (yes you read that right) 95 aero hot estate, 250bhp as standard from an estate car, a lexus IS200 sport and a lexus GS300 limo type vehicle, honda civic type R, a rolls phantom, BMW X5 and M5 and M6 (M6 was an awesome beast) and a merc SL500 5.0 V8, out of them being the fun to drive for various reasons the mk2 golf with one of it's 5 16v engines i had in it was the best with the 2.0 ABF engine for drive-ability and fun factor and the V6 i fitted in the mk2 was awesome for noise, i never thought i'd find a car that rivalled the fun factor but the impreza has me hooked, it lacks stuff that most cars now have like a trip computer but i have now got over that small niggle and i prefer not to know what mpg i'm getting lol the subaru is fun on all levels and ticks all my boxes every time i go out in it
  20. i don't understand why they never put the box arches on the wagons, that's the only thing that puts me off the newage wagon, otherwise i like em for the standing out feature, i have a classic wagon and i think that has more of an appeal over the other classics in my area as there mostly saloons, that being said i do want a saloon next as i feel i can't replicate a rally car with a wagon, they weren't raced, all depends what i find when the money's here
  21. first time i've seen them speedlines, which i believe are a prodrive thing, on a forester, also can you not contact prodrive and ask them if the chassis number is on file for having the package? and as for the PPP not as good as personal mods, that's most likely because they tune it to what they believe are safe parameters for their parts to cope with where as other tuners can add better stronger parts for more gains, once prodrive have developed the bits for a certain model a new model will be on the horizon so their focus will be on parts for the next model whereas other companies can keep developing parts for the older models if that makes sense, just a thought not a fact lol
  22. the IS200 sport is a nice car, got the VVTI engine which is fun but would be no use in snow, if you want power and 4 wheel drive the golf 4motion is a nice motor, i had one that i swapped for the impreza turbo i now have, they have a haldex 4 wheel drive system that only uses the rear wheels when needed but you can buy a blue haldex controller that will give you control over what the rear wheels do and when, they are a 2.8 V6 engine with 204 bhp, giving them a stepping on the loud pedal can make em thirsty but i could get good mpg's at 70mph in 6th on the motorway and driven sensible round town it was good on juice, they usually come with such extras as rain sensitive wipers and heated seats, if you were to look into them make sure it's had a clutch and flywheel within its last 50k as they are duel mass and cost a few quid just for the parts, they are quite bullet proof engines and run off timing chains rather than belts that don't usually require changing for over 100k, again this is an expensive job if it needs doing as it's engine out to do it, they can be heard easily when going as they rattle on the passenger side of the engine as for the impreza, there is a member that was on here who lives on a steepish hill, he had a turbo impreza and never had issues in snow, he then got a corrolla front wheel drive to save money on fuel and had to park away from home in winter months as he could get up the hill if it snowed, he went back to an impreza and got the sport, a trip he did to his cousins in the turbo 1 way was a full tank, in the sport he could go both ways for half a tank so they are a big saving and still 4 wheels drive, the only differences are the bonnet as said, theres no anti roll bar at the back and the rear brakes are drums not discs, oh and the clutch is cable operated not hydraulic, although the sport has a hill catch feature, if you start rolling back on a hill the brakes automatically engage to make a hill start easier either way welcome aboard, i'm currently searching for a new classic impreza so if i see a cheap one i will point you in that direction
  23. that might work in my favour if this plays out long enough, i could get more money, sad thing is my luck i'll get more but while the cheque clears the price will rise a lot lol i really don't want to settle for something non subaru, the wifes said we can afford to use £500 from the savings to cover the excess so i would technically be getting a full payout in terms of funds for a new car, did you know ebay limits you to 200 watched items, i filled it the other day on cars and parts
  24. in my searches yesterday i found early turbo's for that money but no facelift ones, there were tons of sports and a couple of bug eye sports, there was 1 saloon 98 model with similar mileage but i'm gonna argue the toss as i am supposed to get like for like and mines a wagon so it should be a wagon i get paid for, not sure if i can push it and say it has to be green and bull him by saying i originally looked for ages to find a green V3 wagon lol the few i did find that were the same or similar were priced at £1450-£2150 from 40 miles to 240 miles away from my address, only 1 was a wagon too, plus as i will be sent a cheque the time it will take the cheque to clear the car will likely be sold
