  1. Holy ****. Sorry to see this mate. Glad to hear you're mostly ok though.
  2. Steve - didnt you say it'd be a couple of years before you moved and got a trailer though? Might have to rely on borrowing one as and when we need it until that point if that's the case. Stants - your storage company doesn't have somewhere near Steve does it? That'd be ideal haha :D & yea I understand there's a pretty big chance none of this will happen. No harm done if it doesn't though. But it would be so !Removed! awesome if we did. So definitely got to try! And try I will! In fact I've got myself so excited about this that if it doesn't work out I may even have to go the route of selling my Scoob and just use my work van for journeys so I can have my own track car :)
  3. Should be good longer term then :) I've just done a VERY quick google search for trailers and storage. Storage I immediately came across one at £18 per week - ikclassicsandracing.co.uk/garage-services/car-storage/ But that's a pretty impressive sounding one there that offers a lot of services so I'm sure we could find a lot cheaper with a proper look. As for Trailers, looks like that'd cost about £45 a day - should be ok for the odd weekend track days IMO but if we can find someone near you Steve with one I'm sure we could get these cheaper too - http://www.erento.co.uk/hire/vehicles-boats-aircraft/trailers/trailer/car-trailer/ Remember that's between 3 of us so far. Potentially 4 or more if anyone else shows interest. I don't think that's bad. I used to pay near £10 a week just to go to a local gym for example so even that all singing, all dancing storage place isnt too bad. Plus if we find one with a garage with it like that we could use the tools, lift etc. to make working on our track car easier too so that'd be a bonus possibly worth the extra cash?
  4. Well I'm in Sheff and Stants is in Leeds, I've made the journey to your neck of the woods quite a few times plus you have a few tracks I'd want to visit at your end so I think distance shouldn't be too bad between us 3 at least. Well I know I'd be willing to drive a few hours for a track day anyway. Don't know about Jay if he ends up being able to participate. Stants - I agree mate. We do need to have a thorough talk and plan drawn up if we go ahead. I just wanted to make sure there's interest before devoting any time into it. As for a base plan though. I'm with Steve, I think it should be a dedicated track car, otherwise we get the added costs of keeping it road legal plus we can't go as mad with it. Unless, there's a member that wouldn't mind having a hardcore track car as their weekend toy so wouldn't mind spending a bit more on mot/tax/insurance etc. plus they'd be able to store it at home. I very much doubt that'll happen though lol! That'd be great if you can to was well Steve. Just have to find someone we can rent a trailer from on certain weekends i think I know a guy up here that would do such a thing but no good here if your towing obviously. I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to find one though plus a storage area. I'll do a quick estimation of this stuff when I get a min. Probably tomorrow. As for the car I was thinking a £1000 very maximum budget for it. However the cheaper the better obviously, which is why I suggested other cars like MX5 as that could be bought for £500 and be cheaper to work on. But then again I haven't looked how much Impreza's without MOT and not road legal would be. Maybe we could get a slight sponsorship from the site, maybe using some of the supporter money? And if we get a Classic Impreza we can plaster the forum all over it acting as advertising. Any chance of this at all Gambit? Then it's just a case of stripping out the interior and unnecessary parts, fitting roll cages etc which we can do ourselves. :) I've not thought about someone wanting to drop out later to be honest. But personally I was hoping to make this as cheap as is possible between us and write my money off basically anyway - spending my money to do something I love. I've spent thousands upon thousands on drink for example with nothing to actually show for it. This would be similar to that for me, money spent just for the good times and experience. We could definitely have something in place though. Such as have an agreement whereby any items we buy as a group, we split the money evenly whenever the time comes to sell any of it, whether that person is still involved or not. It is something we need to sort between us. That's the basics anyway. Obviously we need to have a proper chat and plan before we do anything and spend any money but if the interest is there we can start sorting these elements out to see if it's realistic to do. Might have to sort a weekend meet together or properly go over it. Either over drinks or at a car meet. Or both ;)
  5. I love number 6. The owner is definitely having a laugh there surely :)
  6. I'd defo do a HPi check but if that mileage is genuine and it has FSH I'd say that's totally reasonable if it's in good condition. I paid around £7k for mine which had been lightly modified last year for a 2003 with mid 60k on the clock. Didn't have the knock as the suspension had already been changed to Coilovers, but it is a common issue with the original parts so don't let it put you off, even with pricing that in its still decent value for the mileage and if it's totally standard. You'll find there's loads out there for £6000 or even £5000 but I bet 95% of them are dogs and badly looked after with poor history unfortunately. That was the case when I was looking anyway, id definitely say its worth paying a bit more if you find a good one. Problem is they're cheap to buy but not cheap to maintain and look after so from what I saw lots skimped on that the servicing part. Or spent that maintenance money on POOOWWWEEERRR instead.
  7. This is something that has been playing on my mind for a while now. Especially recently since Stants mentioned it in passing at Japshow Finale I think it was. Basically would anyone be up for a buying a track or race (or both) slag car as a team? It's something I've always loved the idea of but none of my mates are into cars so why not do it with you guys?! Classic Impreza's are dead cheap now - especially one we'll be buying as normal road car and pride and joy issues won't be such a big deal. We could all lump in together to buy, mod and track or race. Would even be able to advertise the site on the car :) .Or could buy something that'd be even cheaper to mess about with - such as a MX5 or RS Clios for example. I am 100% serious about this so no offence but please don't say you're up for it if you don't really mean it - like some people do when they say they'll come to a meet then suddenly drop out/don't turn up. By all means show your interest if it's genuine though. Just checking interest at the moment, Christmas and New Year are too close. But I would like to start planning and looking into it properly early next year. Soooo.. Anyone interested? What about you Stants since you got me thinking about it more :D Someone with a bit of mechanical nouse would be great too ;) would like to learn more myself on how to work on cars too which this could be good for I reckon. Cheers Nick
  8. Mine runs 1.4/1.5 bar - which is about 20psi. But it was mapped to that by a professional with supporting mods. I've not heard good things about manual boost controllers but that may just be people putting them way too high. Just make sure your other parts are up to the task before you do anything like that though - fuelling especially. I'd say it'd need STi injectors and a new fuel pump at least. Somebody else will hopefully be able to give you a more definite answer on whether it's safe to use the controller though.
  9. Sorry it's a Facebook video - can't find it on youtube and don't know how to embed it. Good watch showing a Scoob in snow though https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=756733291073513&fref=nf
  10. Yea. When getting a remap not that long ago I was recommended to go back to recirc for slightly better performance and told the BOV's can sometimes cause running issues - nothing serious and mine had been on for 3+ years without issue. But I decided to change it anyway. I do sometimes miss the sound though.
  11. I've not had many cars and wouldn't say any where actually bad. But my history anyway since that's what this thread has turned into ;) 1. L Reg Mk3 Diesel Golf n/a 1.9l Bought for £500 with 120,000 on clock. Slow as !Removed! but definitely for the best during first couple of young, idiotic years. Foot hard to floor EVERYWHERE! Managed to spin it on a B road. Took a corner far too fast, back wheel touched the wet grass on side of road, span 1.5 times into a field. Luckily this was at night and nothing else was on the road. Good wake up call! Still, lasted me just under couple of years with no probs and had over 145,000 miles on clock when I sold it for £500. Didn't spend a penny on it apart from some new £20 brakes haha. Brilliant as a first car IMO. 2. '04 Hyundai Coupe 2.0l This was actually surprisingly good. The steering feel was good, sounded pretty decent, had a decent interior with cruise control (still miss that!) and I think it looked great - although I ruined it with the rear lights... The Hell was I thinking? Also, just like the Golf, didn't need any work in the 2 years I owned it so was dead cheap to run. 3. 54 plate Civic Type R (EP3) This is where it got interesting in for me. Finally in a position where I was on decent money and could afford something a bit more performance orientated and I really liked these so went for it. With my new found fortunes I also got the modding bug. Spent quite a lot of money upgrading and tidying it up. All breathing mods - exhaust, intake, manifolds etc upgraded, remap, suspension and geo set up... Did all sorts. I LOVED it. vtec, while not for everyone, I found to be great fun. And even though it wasn't as fast as a lot other cars out there (although at 250bhp when I was done it was no slouch), it felt a lot faster just because of the fuss and noise it made when I did go for it. Loved the dash mounted knob. The throttle response was immediate & great too, just felt so eager to go faster - something I took for granted until I drove a few turbo cars, including Scoobs. Felt absolutely bulletproof too, like it could be ragged 24/7 with no issues at all. Do still miss it in some ways. My only real gripe with it was the steering feel - it's electric and gives no feedback whatsoever! Took ages to get used to and never quite gave me full 100% confidence in it. 4. Blobeye Scoob - You all know about this one. :)
  12. I had that exact same BOV (turbosmart one) on mine. You're correct in thinking you can alter it so it doesn't go off too much. Mine didn't make any noise at all unless I was flooring it. So if that's what you're after I'd recommend it. Sounded good too.
  13. Got to say I think it looks a lot better on the standard alloys too.
  14. Don't lie Gambit ;) I'll probably come along to this if we can get a couple going. Wouldn't this be better posted in the "shows" section too? Might get a few more views and more interest than in the regional part.
  15. Haha awesome! I really need to play some of this and Forza 5 with you lot.
  16. Anyone still play this? Recently got a PS4 and re bought this for it. Got a few people on my friends list to compare times with but would always like more. Add me or post your tag on here and I'll add you later f I haven't got you already - Nick_2k7
  17. ****, just seen this on my Facebook too. Horrible news, everyone always had positive things to say about him and his mapping talents. R.I.P. :(
  18. Count me in again. I'll be taking more money to buy goodies with this time!
  19. Not for SOC no. When we parked up in the field some bloke was hanging around and offered us passes for his stand for free to try and fill his up. Unfortunately we couldn't find his stand so just went in another haha. Felt a bit sorry for him since he helped us out but was sick of driving around looking for it.
  20. Thanks Savage :) I don't think Stants or Ash got round to taking any. Gem was there on the SIOC stand so she may have got some but don't know for sure. Haha, I know that feeling. Spent most of my CTR ownership messing with it rather than driving it, did same for first few months of owning my Scoob too. Got to say I've loved just driving and enjoying it these last couple of months :) definitely still got an eye on future work though ;) Just been pointed in the direction of this little vid too which shows Stants, Ash's and my car parked up
  21. Of course I did Dave :D
  22. Was an enjoyable day, weather held out which was the main thing :). Posted a 13.3 time, reckon I could have got under 13 seconds with 1 or 2 more goes. Will have to see next year. Pics - https://www.facebook.com/nick.foulstone.18/media_set?set=a.372991926183876.1073741829.100004192154481&type=3 Also, vid of my run. :) Massive thanks to Stants for taking it.
  23. Anyone wanting a go on the strip remember to take your paper counterpart licence too. I've never been asked for it but they do say to being it on their site and when signing up. So I'd take it just in case.
  24. Yea and it's a decent drive there so no will doubt be a mess by time we're there anyway lol. Just meant to be cloudy from what I've seen, I'm happy with that. As long as there's no rain it's all good :)
  25. Gave her a quick wash and started to wax but then rained so just quickly did the front, roof and wing as they get the most hammer. Then fitted my new STi badge to my modified grill (Subaru Emblem removed, filled and painted) and fitted the grill plus went and filled up so I can just set straight off in morning. All ready for Japshow Finale now :) Pics of the STi badge. Old and crusty New and shiney Pics of it on the car will follow tomorrow :)
