What have you done to your Subaru today ?
savage bulldogs replied to stants's topic in General Subaru Chat
And it's the wrong way round. ... She helped me with something scooby[emoji15] so in her eyes I probably owe her something girly [emoji57] But I did point out all the imperfections in the bodywork which was a pre emt strike for getting the paintwork sorted [emoji6] -

Gave the scooby a wash polish and wax Sunday [emoji41] Mrs came outside and helped [emoji15] She hasn't told me what she's done or going to buy yet though [emoji39] -

The early v1 sti engine I rebuilt had metal cam pulleys so I just clamped them together to keep them in position when working on the timing ,however when I tried the same method on the v3 uk plastic cam pulleys they snapped [emoji57] So you'll probably need to buy a "cam locking " tool as the inlet and exhaust valves can bend , as they can hit each other if the cams are allowed to turn independently. Most people shy away from regrinding scooby cranks and only reuse them if they are unworn or only need a light polish ,although the likes of acl do sell over sized shells . -
Always nice to see a early impreza getting some tlc [emoji41] As for turbo upgrade you can fit a front entry turbo to a phase 1 by using a silicone elbow but the easiest and cheapest option would be a top entry tdo5 16g . With the right supporting mods they will hit 350hp which is about the limit for the gearbox and classic tmic . What colour are your injectors? Grey 380's are good for 300hp Yellow 440's are good for 350hp

Unfortunately I'm working late during the week and Saturdays for at least 5 weeks so won't get chance to post it for quite a while . -
Will a decent sound system cover up noise?
savage bulldogs replied to Phil3822's topic in General Subaru Chat
Get yourself a aftermarket exhaust system instead ..... Cos you can't beat the scooby soundtrack [emoji4] -

If you collect from Suffolk I'd knock £20 off tbh I don't want to post it and I'd sooner get it modified as it was over £800 when new -
Hi n welcome I don't know much about the na's but looking at the pic and assuming it's only got 1 cam in each head , I'd say it was a blanking plate covering the rear of the cam . probably used while they machine the heads during pre assembly (new) Have a look on import car parts website to see if they list a gasket and if not you could try removing it , cleaning both surfaces and refitting it with some three bond liquid gasket

Hi n welcome, sorry to hear that you've got engine trouble -
seeing the title im sure gambits answer would have involved his favourite brand of strawberry flavoured lube [emoji33] [emoji23] Glad you've sussed it Phil as there's at least 3 different types of plastic fixings that hold things onto a classic and they all work on the same principle. It's probably why they're so light lol

A mates got a 555 I think he had his stripped, mopped ,polished and a new original full graphics kit put back on Have a look on Google images at a few before you buy any though as his is a track car and I'm not 100% sure if he's added any himself

Jae ? I've never been but heard it's good

Does seem like it's over boosting a bit as standard boost is about 0.8 bar across the impreza range . Pre 97 cars have a 1.2 bar map sensor limit and if the boost pressure is to far out of the ecu's map parameters it can also cause boost cut (sudden loss of all boost) As for checking codes There's 2 plugs under the dashboard you connect together which give a sort of "morse code" flash of the eml light to read codes

Maybe I should put my 5zigen system back on ,park up and blip the throttle. ..... You'll soon find me then ...... Cos she sounded real dirty lol I agree brocksey it's good to put faces to usernames/ scoobs . seeing as most of the users on this forum are from far and wide , a big uk show is about the only time you get chance

You don't have to plug in a machine search "classic ecu code check" I think it's in a sticky thread in the tech section on here ,it allows you to check the codes yourself without any diagnostic equipment and resets the ecu as well . As stants said does it have any mods ? When was the last time the plugs were changed? Do you have a boost gauge if so what does it peak at?

Sorry I don't know either of the things that you used as a comparison [emoji15] They must be things that people buy that have deeper pockets than me [emoji39] I've yet to do a track day [emoji55] let alone one at such a level where forged lightweight rims will give me the split second edge above the competition . Having a second glance at yours the spokes are a lot thinner and they're not as concave as my cheaper 6.9 kg rotas but You obviously know your rims better than me and I've only ever bought wheels that I just "like the look of" There's 2 sets of expensive wheels for sale on here now ,so you're definitely right when you said that some people do have that sort of money to spend on rims Unfortunately I don't have that sort of spare cash and to be honest if I did I'd snap up the nearly new rays with tyres as they're more my style preference . Anyway I didn't intend on filling up your sale thread with negative comments (as we try not to encourage trolls on here) I'm sure "they'll go straight in sombodies basket " Glwts fella

Sounds like either a misfire or boost cut ,have you done a classic self ecu code check?

A few Impreza electrical Issues
savage bulldogs replied to Phil3822's topic in Subaru Audio / Electronics / Security
I might have sent you on a goose chase as I just assumed the rear wash wipe had a relay (maybe give it a google) If not try looking at the plug for corrosion on the terminals and check if your getting power to it Both of my classics have had a aftermarket head unit so I just had to remove the trim that goes around the centre console and use the removal keys to get the head unit out of the cage -
Is the refreshed lump in and running now sam ?

Good stuff stants

If the weather's good I'll be there Saturday with a few other scooby dudes from my local forum . We'll have to find you and park up n have a chat between 1/4 runs

Hatch Down on Power - HELP!!!!
savage bulldogs replied to timmyjk7's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
Have you got a 4wd dyno near you? If so you could book it in for a power run (about £ 50) as they'll have better diagnostic equipment for boosted cars and hopefully it's just a boost leak -
I quite like the style of the rims but they do look like my current rota boosts . In my instance if I had a spare £1k + tyres + fitting I'd spend it on a bigger turbo and some cheap scruffy wheels with decent tyres to use on track or for winter . I'm not saying that they're not worth the money just that not many people have £1.5 k to chuck at a set of rims
