  1. Mirror switch will just pop out ,use a thin flat bladed screw driver with a couple of layers of insulation tape wrapped around it ,so you don't mark the dash Have you replaced the wiper relay as well as the fuse ? if you dont have a multi meter use a 12v bulb in a holder attach 1 wire to a bolt at attached to the bodywork (earth it ) and poke the other wire into the plug that connects to the wiper to see if your getting power to it . It's probably unlikely that the motor has broken and more likely to be a wiring/ earthing fault or relay /fuse issue As for speakers I'd start by checking the connections on the back of the head unit
  2. Clean classics are fetching £3k especially if they're relatively standard I'd imagine a clean tidy and original 555 sti v limited would be worth £3.5 k So it seems like you've got a bargain bud
  3. Here's a pic of my 5 speed and 6 speed side by side if you zoom in you can see the linkages you might have to undo the rear gearbox mount/cross member from the underside of the car to gain access to change /inspect it
  4. Ok the date's changed to October 10th now as it seems to suit everyone else better (can't work out how to edit the thread title) We've only got 5 going so far ,so we're gonna get the tickets on the gate as if the weather's bad we won't bother but if the weather's good at least we'll hopefully be able to link up with the members of soc that are going for japshow 2 on the Saturday [emoji41]
  5. Shame your not closer to me and own somewhere dry to work on it Rik , as If you could afford a second hand engine I'd have helped you fit it . Just to see a happier end to this disaster story [emoji53] All the best ,clive
  6. Just waiting to hear back on s.c whether we're going to change the date to the 10th
  7. Would love to stay for a few sherberts Saturday night but I'm a bit worried about you sneaking in my tent while I'm unconscious [emoji33] [emoji23] Plus I dont think my Mrs would never give me my balls back if I asked to stay out all weekend "playing scooby" [emoji107] [emoji144]
  8. Sorry I didn't word that very well ,that's Saturday afternoon drinking for you [emoji16] will the soc stand be set up on Saturday (so I need a pass to park with you all) Or is the stand just a Sunday thing ( so I don't need a pass for just the Saturday )
  9. Are the stand passes just for Sunday ? As my local forum is debating whether to shift our rwyb day to the 10th as a few more people are free that day and my work dates have changed [emoji6]
  10. Yeah the calipers bolt straight on and so do the 4 pot bigger dia discs (as long as they're the 5 x 100 pcd type) But you'll probably need bigger 17" rims to fit over them (although some 16" standard rims will fit )
  11. Think on the japshow 2 site it says rwyb sat but I couldn't see anything about rwyb on the Sunday (maybe wrong though )
  12. Don't think it's a night one matt ,I'll check bud Sam i do try to keep it clean and it's fairly rust free but it's got a bit of lacquer peel a few dents and the front end looks like it's been shot with a musket
  13. Think we've only got 4 people so far but the thread only went up yesterday . I think it's a tenner to get in and £20 for unlimited runs on a rwyb day . Although I enjoyed japshow I did spend far to long sitting in my car rather than looking around everyone else's. Didn't even get chance to meet all the club members to put faces to usernames
  14. Rik my suggestion was just a idea in case you didn't fancy the risk off losing a court case
  15. It depends on what you intend on using the car for and personal preference Imo I know a few people like to "stance" their scoobs with the belly on the ground on coilovers Or if you intend on doing a few track days then coilovers are probably the best option as they offer a wider range of adjustment to suit the track and your driving style . For fast road use I've gone for standard kyb shocks , group n top mounts, Elbaich camber bolts and Elbaich pro springs which are progressive rate. The springs stiffen up under load in the corners but are more forgiving in a straight line (pothole friendly ) they also lower the UK /wrx by 30 mm As for which type of coilovers (if you chose that route) your better off having a google to make a informed choice as there's pros n cons with most brands and loads of feedback from people who actually run coilovers on their gc8's
  16. My local forum are trying to drum up a few numbers for a rwyb day at santa pod on October the 10th I know a few on here are going to the pod for japshow 2 but I spent most of the day in the "fire up line" @ japshow 1 and I fancied a better crack at the 1/4 to see if I can do the old girl justice. We're not intending to compete with anyone other than our own personal times so it doesn't matter if you've got a monster fire breather or a na scoob it's just for the crack .
  17. Resisted the temptation to clean out the "bigger turbo" fund.... by not buying some coilovers [emoji57]
  18. Just a thought ,Have you got a copy of the fault diagnosis from the garages that said it was definitely headgasket? Is so you could try forwarding a copy of the fault diagnosis ,a dated pic of the speedo (showing it hasn't done many miles) and a copy of the quote for a rebuild Then ask for a "good will" refund for half the cost of the work that needs to be done to make the car fit for purpose. Also Stating that this is hopefully a more civil way to resolve the issue before taking your solicitors advise and starting court proceedings Probably a long shot but you never know if he has got a ounce of decency he might meet you half way .
  19. Both my 94 jdm and 97 UK ran a R160 rear set up which use the same handbrake set up as newage wrx . I was lucky enough to pick up relatively new discs and pads with my 2 pot calipers (£150) So just had to buy the conversion brackets from Asperformance and grind the rear splash guards off to fit them . If your unsure if your later classic handbrake assembly is compatible give Alyn a call when ordering the brackets and he'll know
  20. Made quite a difference to mine stopped it squirming under heavy braking but I did have the rubish 1 pot calipers with solid discs which had uneven wear on the inner / outer faces . I think the later uk has the vented rear discs like the early jdm's . The vented uprated discs on my brvs scoob did seem better than my solid rear disc set up . the newage rear discs are bigger dia (less fade) and obviously the calipers press a piston on each side rather than relying on the sliding mechanism to nip both sides of the discs equally
  21. The z4 ecu is a common mod on early wrx's as the map runs tdo5, 440's and wrx profile cams to produce 260 hp . I've personally never switched ecu's or decated without mapping straight afterwards and would suggest to at least get it on a rolling road to make sure it's running ok (especially if decated ) The spoiler looks like the standard one on impreza wrx and sti up to v4 ,apart from the a few special models Although I've only ever owned 2 classics and they've both been silver [emoji16] I agree I'd much prefer a white or graphite grey saloon to be be honest Check the sump for leaks while you're replacing seals as the sump is just three bonded on from factory and can weap at the crank ends you can buy a group n cork sump gasket as a upgrade which can help reduce the chances of it leaking .
  22. Yeah i think Clean classics in general are a bit thin on the ground now [emoji19] but I suppose the early ones are over 20 yrs old . I'm bit bias but I do like to see the early ones being restored as a lot of the v1's have been broken and had their cdb's ripped out for big power builds other than fixing the oil leak do you have any other plans for it ?
  23. No probs tidge I'm always happy to be proved right [emoji4] as I guessed that my v1 didn't have a rear aerial cos it was a early one and I guess that means not all jdms have a rear aerial but they do all have rear wipers(apart from some ra 's) [emoji6] I do love something different and I'm always keen to learn something new , have a read through my project thread and you'll all see that lol Back to the op any luck finding a good one yet ? Feel free to post any links up if you're unsure about a particular scoob we'll always help out if we can fella
  24. Na she's definitely a import cos it's my 94 v1sti in the top pic ,I just assumed it didn't have a rear 1/4 arail cos it was a early one(its my old v3 uk in the bottom pic) I wasn't splitting hairs bud, as I know the jdm rear wiper conversion can be done on a uk. Just that it's not a common mod due to the work involved just for a rear wash wipe
  25. Model codes are the best way to tell what the car is but the rear wash wipe is the easiest give away from a first glance . Although I do prefer having a rear wash wipe on my jdm I don't think many people want the hassle of changing the rear screen and plumbing the electrics/water bottle in not the best pic's to illustrate but Jdm UK
