My 10 yr old daughter helped a bit with lapping the valves in when I was resembling the heads and passes me tools when I'm under the car but I wouldn't let her loose with a blow lamp . Cos she'd probably cook the dog or set fire to the grumpy neighbours fence when I turned my back lol

Not done to much lately as after cleaning and polishing it every other weekend to take it too the photo shoot ,Bury retro car show and finally japshow ,I promised the Mrs I wouldn't even wash it for at least a fortnight. Gutted as when I did finally wash it I noticed somthing splashed up the side of the car and all over the drivers side front wheel ...... Brake fluid [emoji33] When I'd bought the brembos the k sport braided lines were already attached to the calipers with new banjo bolts/copper washers with tape over the "car" end to keep it all debris free [emoji106] All I did was check the banjo bolts were tight enough before I fitted them as I didn't want to take a chance that any dirt would get in if I removed the lines or tape Well unfortunately the bloke who sold them to me had not removed the powder coating on the machined surface before bolting the lines onto the calipers. Pick of the slight weap Once I removed the lines you could see why they were leaking as the brake fluid has eaten the paint and allowed it to leak Which in turn has fubar'd my nice shiny recently refurbed front wheel [emoji35] [emoji36] if people don't know what they're doing and want to risk catastrophic brake failure on their own car then that's up to them but sell me some shoddily put together brakes with no r clips to hold the pad pins in place and tell me "they're ready to bolt on and nothings missing" I'm glad he lives a fair distance from me as I could do with staying out of trouble (well for at least another 18 months) Luckily enough I had put stacks of poor boys sealant on the wheels and a coat of colinite paint sealer on the bodywork so it's not completely fooked but there's still a few blemishes that won't clay and polish out [emoji53] So I decided to treat the scoob to a slightly quieter infinity exhaust system which isn't as well made as the 5zigen but gives a deep thud on idle and is much quieter on boost due to the massive back box [emoji41] I do still think the red brembos were a good buy as they do stop well (now) and also look good behind the black rotas -
Need a new turbo, but which?
savage bulldogs replied to Sam.B89's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
As stants said Andy forest does new hybrid tdo's and can work on a exchange basis or the scooby clinic sc36 billet is about a grand . Pinks are a good upgrade for sub 360 hp, get them fitted just before the remap ,as the fuelling will be to far out from the 440's original map so it will run ropey and best to driven off boost for a short distance until mapped in Imprezas do suffer a bit more than most with heat soak due to the position of tmic and it not getting air flow when stationery . most say to stick with the panel filter as it draws cool air from outside the car and normally only fit a induction kit if you need to reroute the intake when fitting a fmic . Saying that if you do fit a induction kit or cone getting some cold air to it from the inner wing and headlight air duct makes a difference [emoji6] best advice I could give when looking at new turbos is if it's too cheap it's probably no good and steer well clear of cheap chinky crap . Also make sure it's for a 2ltr as some of the 2.5 ltr turbos are Laggy on a 2ltr due to using a bigger exhaust housing -

They're lovely looking rims and at a bargain price but unfortunately way out of my budget . I'm sure if sombody is after a set of rays and they've got the £'s they'll snap them up straight away Glwts bud -

savage bulldogs replied to Sam.B89's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
Did you replace the upipe for a "catless" sti one ? As if not it might be worth switching to the sti upipe as well as the turbo . There's a fair few compatible turbos to switch to and if your current one is a tdo4 they're capable of 280 hp in good condition with supporting mods . Here's a few of The most common bolt on turbos used to upgrade the wrx and a rough guide of what hp they're capable of with the correct supporting mods . (Decat downpipe ,bigger injectors, headers ect ...) Tdo5 16g's (front entry converted) about £300 350hp Vf34 more expensive due to the quicker spooling roller bearing core £450 330hp Vf35 (pretty much the same as the tdo5 16g cores ) £400 330hp Vf43 /48 single scroll variants I'm not 100% sure of hp and price but they will break the 300 hp mark -

Fitted the infinity cat back and it's much quieter on boost with a deeper thud on tick over [emoji41] It doesn't look as pretty as the 5zigen but the only real fault I can find is that I can now hear the kids in the back when driving [emoji23] -

I've been playing dying light on the ps4 and a dab hand at c.o.d so I'm ready for the zombie apocalypse anyways [emoji5] Just seems a bit pointless having a 21 yr old scoob running decent power with oe looks (for added stealth scalps) when it sounds like a drag car on boost [emoji23] -

Had a 3" zorst turn up today[emoji4] it looks fairly well made but nowhere near the same build quality as my current 5zigen system with a center resonator and this massive back box I'm hoping it will quieten the old girl down a bit[emoji41] as since I've fitted the gruppe headers and cusco downpipe , it's loud enough to wake the dead on boost [emoji33] [emoji39] [emoji12] -
Have a drive about with someone in the back to see if they can pinpoint where the sound is coming from. As top mounts are at ear level and I'd have thought that you'd hear them high up in the back . Have you completely emptied the boot as it could be something as simple jack/tool bag or space saver spare wheel Droplinks and trailing arm bushes are another likely culprit if the coilovers are in good nick , kw's are a good make but obviously can fail as well as the standard shocks

Being a 95 wrx i wouldn't have thought it had a cdb as standard (93 and early 94's had the cdb's) And as stants said you'd have to change the standard internals to break the 350hp mark even on a early sti with a cdb (heads lift off @370hp). I'd Eco tidgy with saying that the brakes and suspension should be the first port of call with a early classic, as the 2 pot fronts are shocking even @ 220hp ,add another 100 ponies and he'll end up with a tiger skin interior (if he's lucky) I blew my 97 classic uk 5 speed to bits @ about 330hp/320 flbs while in mid gear @ 3/4 throttle. A 6 speed conversion is probably the cheapest 400hp+ upgrade option (over a ppg 5) Imo I'd get at least the brakes upgraded and the get it remapped before aiming to high with the £20 k pub figures with the standard Tdo5 16g's and yellow 440cc injectors you'll see about 320 hp from a decated scoob ,which is enough to leave most heavier modern, more powerful cars with a bitter taste in their mouths (normally from the v power cloud as you disappear from view )

Gambit I'll chuck up a link to some subaru manuals if you need some "alone time" [emoji15] I would send you a hard copy but I think you'd only get the pages stuck together[emoji4] Another bit of multi tasking completed by me this evening [emoji41] Bought another 3" cat back and upset the wife at the same time [emoji12] -
You just need a phase 2 to phase 1/1.5 adapter kit and then fit them to your existing phase 1 rails , ithink mark lateral performance sell them for about £40 You'll be over fuelling a lot once they're fitted so i wouldn't fit them untill a day before a map tweek [emoji6]

No problem bud [emoji106] do you know what diff ratio and type is on your scoob ? And what's the year ,ratio of the 6 speed ? im not a 100% but i think if you change from r160 to r180 set ups on the rear ,the inner rear cv or drive shaft length differs due to the bigger (stronger) r180 diff ,if so you'd need .... Diff shafts Hubs (5x100 pcd) Rear discs Handbrake shoes And possibly calipers ( 2 pot rear brembos ) If the ratios are the same you'd just need 6 speed...... Box Cradle Gearknob and linkage Prop shaft The speed sensor Clutch /fly /slave Starter Front drive shafts Ect Can all be used from the 5 speed set up [emoji6] -

If you can afford it go for it, cos it's definitely been my favourite mod shorter gears equal more gear changes [emoji53] But less lag when rolling [emoji4] Mine is a sti UK Box and has a longer ratio but tbh I think it's only 5th and 6th are longer and I do 700 rpm less @70mph in 6th than i did in a uk 5th The only difference of inner front drive shafts on turbo imprezas is in late 04 when they change from female to male but you can buy a stub axle conversion kit to make them fit . So you'd use your scoobs front drive shafts with the 6 speed . If your scoob has the same ratio as the box your buying you can keep the scoobs rear diff in situ and just use the 6 speeds prop, cradle, gear knob to fit the 6 speed If the 6 speed gearbox and your diff ratios don't match you'll have to find your diff type and the donor diff type (either r160 or R180 ) As i think if your diff is a R160 and the donor diff is a R180 it's shafts and your hubs, discs ,brakes, shafts won't be compatible (easier to fit a R160 diff the same ratio as the 6 speed) -
Ninja &ninja 2 exhausts?
savage bulldogs replied to savage bulldogs's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
Cheers for the input chaps [emoji106] Missed The ninja 1 sold [emoji53] The ninja 2 in on the bay but he hasn't answered my question about fitment and bore ,so it's not looking good either[emoji57] Don't really want to shell out much more than £150 on a 2.5 " cat back as I might have to switch back to my current 3" 5zigen system if the reduction in bore size looses spool or power on the dyno[emoji6] -
STI Spoiler
savage bulldogs replied to Scoobydoobydan's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
In the UK it was at the top near the passenger side boot hinge (black plug with 2 pins) Tbh I preferred the v5/v6 sti rep spoiler But is was a bit rough and needed some paintwork . I want to put it back to preface before I get any paintwork done so decided to keep it looking more oe with the mid level -
STI Spoiler
savage bulldogs replied to Scoobydoobydan's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
My uk turbo had a mid level spoiler with a brake light as standard which just plugged into a black plug that came off the loom near the boot light wiring. I think it had 2 nuts on either side holding it in place and a rubber "gasket" spacer to stop water ingress through the bolt holes . Although the v1 sti's had midlevel spoilers I think my brv had to scotch block into the live wire that feeds the rear brake lights as they're wasn't a plug to run it's aftermarket boot spoiler with a brake light that was fitted to it when he bought it now it's mine I fancied trying to get the v1 sti looking a bit more standard on the outside at least, so decided to switch spoilers . The v3 spoiler came off easy Un plugged and Un bolted [emoji41] Who ever fitted the aftermarket one to the v1 had used a ton of tiger seal to bond it to the boot lid , so I had to heat gun it off leaving residue all over the (now exposed) center of the boot lid [emoji15] Luckily the v1 and v3 are the same colour so I put the v3 boot lid and spoiler on the v1 ,changed the locks over and plugged it into the plug ,I think my brv wired in [emoji6] So maybe check for a 2 pin black plug in the boot ,cross reference the bolt hole center measurements and check to see if the aftermarket one is bonded on or whether it has gaskets you can reuse. unless you have gaskets sealing washers with the new spoiler -

I have the oil pressure sender in the block under the alternator and temp in the cylinder number 3 bung . I used this link to get a idea of what to do http://www.scoobycity.co.uk/forums/forum/technical/technical-help/38315-how-to-fit-your-oil-temperature-and-oil-pressure-senders-when-installing-gauges
