I'm sure I had a code as long as you have at least one working fob you could change it. Or are these people with non working/lost fobs ?

Is it when you turn the steering wheel it makes the knock or just over bumps ? :) But I would also check you Hub and bearing and brake caliper for a sticking pistone

I use connectors for most things just for ease of moving it later.

Sorry to hear that mate :( I guess it explains why he never listed the car here For Sale but I thought he was maybe just trying to bow out without making a fuss. And I agree I hate people that think it is ok to sell a car like that with known issues makes me mad well lets hope karma returns the favour, mind you more likely just rip some other poor genuine buyer off But like you have said at least you have taken the steps to have it sorted and after it's done will have a car you know is working. And I can tell you now driving 1 hour will not blow the head gasket, and lets face it, it should have been warmed up before he boosted it on your test drive.

Hi mate welcome to S.O.C Is there anyway you could record it making the noise and upload it on to youtube ? It could be just one of the standard knocks they do seem to carry from what I have heard from other outback owners or a bit of piston slap. :)

I know some people do have them done I have never seen the point for what little can be gained from something that costs that much.

think your best bet would be the Breakers yards mate. I'm sure someone else was after the seal and had to get a complete unit. If that is the problem I think it would be away around it certainly worth ago to see if it works. But I'm also with Jay would be worried that I might have been just doing a work around and not fixing the bigger problem. But you never know. Have you rang Martin up at sheffield subaru services ?
