Not sure about the ej25 but on the ej20 engine there are 2 marks on the inlet cam 180 degrees apart one should line up with the mark on the timing cover and the other with the mark on the exhaust cam, did the cams move when you took the old belt off ? Could the inlet cams be 180 degrees out ? Do you have any pics of the job bud 👍

Hope you are all staying safe 👍👍, much love to everyone through these tough times ❤

What part is this ?
stuartie replied to Scubzjames's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
I think thats the cam sensor -
What model is really up to you bud everyone has there own preference and i'm sure folks will be along to share their views on different models, for me the best looking impreza is the classic gc8 and you could probs pick up a nice gc8 sti for 6.5k however they are going up in price all the time especially ltd edition ones and sti's, this one looks ok 👍 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164128034169

You could try hypertech in falkirk or RAmotorsport in perth both seem to get a good rep 👍

🤣🤣 it's ok mate after you had said that they could be v1 sti wheels i had a wee hunt around the old googley and seen that pic you posted, would have been nice if they had been genuine sti wheels but hey ho 👍
-
Cheers buddy👍, i'm not sure what wheels they are mate was just told when i bought the car that they were jdm wheels, i was planning on getting them powder coated in scoob gold as i'm not really taken with them in the white but if they are genuine v1 sti wheels then i might keep them the way they are since they could be quite rare, hopefully someone out there can confirm if they are or not 👍

Nice work buddy good to see another classic being saved, i'm currently in the process of doing the same 👍
-
Thanks chaps 👍, its been a week or so since i've managed to get near it coz been away getting my class 1 licence my work kindly put me through it so it gives me more options when i decide to hang up the tools i suppose, anyway got a little more done after work this evening Just some filling and flattening while the blacksmith done the sill on the other side, should get the rest done later on in the week 👍

I follow the f1 aswell and like you i find the das system very interesting, from what i've seen about it it will help with tyre wear but also they reckon it'l bring up the tyre temp faster and more even across the tyre rather than heating it from the inside shoulder and it should help aerodynamic flow on the straights as they can run the wheels straight ahead instead of having toe out, what gets me is that they are going to ban it from next season, surely the fia should let it run and let other teams come out with their version of it coz after all it is supposed to be the pinnacle of motorsport and alot of the technology makes it down to the road cars we drive everyday ( i'm not saying this development will eventually make it to the road though) and from next season they are going to be standardizing alot of parts the cars use anyway so why not make this system standardised aswell, i read an interview with Dr helmet head from red bull and they reckon it'l give the mercs a 3tenths advantage at some of the tracks with long straights so if thats true why not let every team integrate the system to their cars for next season 👍

Cheers pal i'm trying to do my best to get in back on the road for the sunshine coming, got a bit more done tonight New metal just tacked in place after we made up a new edge for the inner wing, it's really coming along now 👍
-
Done a wee bit more today after working in the morning, got the passenger side buffed ready to cut out and weld in new panel Then just some filling and sanding on the drivers side Then a coat of zinc primer Its all starting to come together 👍👍
-
There's 4 plugs mate 2 each side and i think the plugs are pfrb6 but can't remember off the top of my head, they are import car parts for about £35 👍
-
Thanks mate, no never got them from Ray as i tried for a couple of days to phone but no answer and you can't buy them through the Facebook page and the website was down for updating so got them on the bay from George Barber panels in Cleveland, according to boys at the work they took over hadrian panels a few years back but not sure if thats true or not, anyway i got a little more done tonight started with the plasma cutter to make up the last part of the inner wing edge Then once that was welded in a covered with a coating of zinc anti corrosion paint the panel was welded in Another coating of zinc paint then a skim of filler and smooth down Still a bit of work to go but it's starting to look better already 👍
-
Looking good bud will be satisfying to get the engine in and back on the road 👍
-
We finally got started on the car this evening Started off buy buffing the panel down to the metal then ..... Nice new metal to replace the edge of inner wing which has also rotted away then cut old scabby metal off the car and cut the new panel to size New panel just tacked in place then got hungry so went home for some tea 😉👍👍

Welcome to the club buddy 👍

I think if your car is fairly standard then ngk platinum heat range 6 or modded and running higher boost heat range 7 icp do them pal 👍
-
As per your other post i would check out the oil seals on the turbo as i wouldn't think the rings would be away on a fresh built engine 👍
-
Where do I post to get technical help?
stuartie replied to Sickman's topic in New Members Introductions
If you have visable oil in the inlet i would get the oil seals in the turbo checked as it sounds like they could be on the way out although a catch can is a good idea, i've a v1 wrx and i'm running more than stock boost pressure and don't have a catch can fitted yet and have no smoke or oil in the inlet so if you already have the new turbo to fit i would maybe get that on and clean out the inlet and see how it goes from there 👍 -
If you think it's misfiring then coilpack is a good shout also the newage one's are alot better than the ones that the early classics use, i definitely felt a difference especially lower in the rev range the engine seems to run smoother, it seems a bit strange to me that it's only happening when the engine is hot as i would have thought it would do it even when its cold, it's really hard to try and diagnose a fault when you're not there to see it happening but you won't go wrong with the coil packs upgrade 👍
