What fuel do you put in?
My classic was a JDM so ran it Tescos 99' the hatch sees nothing but Vpower, I get better mpg in the 2.5ltr hatch than I do in the classic by at least 2 mpg. I average about 21mpg with urban driving. Check you tyre pressures, if they are bit low then they will screw your mpg quite badly. I run 32psi front and 30 rear.

What made you...
Colin and Richard tbh. After watching them slide the cars around the rally stages I was impressed with them and always rubber necked when seeing one on the road. Mine was an impulse buy, my pug 205Gti was on its last legs, I got a bank loan and thought hmm I fancy a Scoob. A local guy to me offered me a scoob and it was after being given a blast in it by his dad and seeing the smile on my mates face when I turned round. He then said "you should see the smile on your face Pete!" I didn't really need any more convincing. That was 12 years ago! Maybe one of the welsh Scoobies owners is near you and can take you for a blast in one?

looking to get some new brakes
Pro R, Ebc Tarrox, Brembo ect. I have run both Tarrox and EBC discs on my cars not much to choose between them, currently running EbC turbo Groved Discs and EBC red Stuff Pads. Pad wise, EBC, Padig, Miltec all get good feed back. Got the last set form http://www.Larkespeed.com and before that from http://www.ebcbrakesdirect.com

fog lights
Welcome to the club. My front fog stopped working, when I checked the blade connectors both had green corrosive gunk on them, I cleaned them with Vinegar, yes fish and chip vinegar :) . Got all the gunk off and they were fine.

police
They have been setting up those stop and check things on the A316 between Iselworth and Hospital Bridge roundabout for years now, don't think they have a system for who to stop and it should be random. Unless the system shows you as no Tax, insurance or mot, the other thing would the system showing anything suspicious related to the car or known drivers. At least that's the impression all the traffic cop programmes give. Having said that if it was the same bunch of coppers each time then I would start to question why always me. At least they are getting the uninsured of the roads. Tbh I think you have just been unlucky.

Subaru Nitro Race RC Car.
Yeah but it's still too much hassle to find some where to run it to practice and not get any complaints about the noise, also not many clubs locally to me run IC.

My first Subaru, from Indiana, USA
That's run of bad luck, glad to see it hasn't put you off Scoobs :) Welcome to the club.

Subaru Nitro Race RC Car.
As much as I'd love an IC car they are too much hassle and mess for me. Me and a mate spent months deliberating over an HPI savage each and decided not to in the end. In fact I don't have any thing larger than 1/28th at the moment, have been toying with the idea of a 1/10 brushless touring car and rejoining the local club. Don't seem to really be that interested otherwise I'd have got one by now.

Burning smell after hard driving
If it was a coolant issue I would expect a smell more like hot metal rather than a burning smell. It is quite pungent? If so may be clutch. That may be slipping under hard acceleration. If it was the exhaust I reckon the bumper would have warped out of shape or caught fire. Have you got heat wrap? That can smell and steam a bit if it get wet then hot. I detailed the engine bay and that smelt of detergent when it got warm. Have you got wind?

Hey Jamie, the Surrey club meets every second Sunday of the month the next one is due on the 9th of Feb. It has with the weather literally been a wash out recently and only a few hardy soles are attending as the guys from further out in the sticks have been flooded out. The venue is the Fairmile in Cobham. If you check the South east regional meets http://uk.subaruownersclub.com/forums/forum/46-south-east-regional-meets/ for past meets all the info is there. I'll post nearer the time. We welcome anyone with a Subaru of any type so hope to see you at a meet sometime.

Should i buy an '08 STI Hatch?
The ring land failure on a friends car may be down to low oil levels, rather than hard driving. As Jay has said pretty much said everything, I will just say that I love my hb after owning a classic 95 WRX for 11 years moving upto the the 08 was a revelation a much more refind drive. The ride isn't harsh at all on normal roads, I regualy take speed bumps with out coming to a stop. it doesn't sound any where near as harsh as the Civic. Again like Jay I am looking to get some springs and firm the ride up a bit. Maybe some urathane bushes aswell. As for the ring land failure, as long as the car has got a full serivce history and you get it checked out by Jolly Green Monster or Andy you should have no issues, if you keep the engine standard or don't go for Stupid power. My impression is It was mainly modded cars running 400+ bhp that suffered it. The only complaints about the car I have are: The stupid Central Locking. The cargo cover creaks and groans. I had to use some foam to stop it making noise. The ugly huge Forrester wing mirrors. Not that much really, they are great cars and can easily return upto 22mpg urban if you drive like a granny. I average 18-19mpg urban, driving like normal with a few spirited squirts every now and then. When you go for a test drive make sure you try the car in S# theres a little dial by the hand brake turn that to S# and hold on tight. if that doesnt put a grin on your face then i don't know what will.

Sad news Subaru Crash near Mclaren Factory.
You may have heard on the news of the crash near the Mclaren Factory in Surrey, involving a Subaru. Unfortunately the driver and passenger both died at the scene. http://news.sky.com/story/1203277/mclaren-pair-killed-in-crash-near-f1-base The owner Ollie Burton was a member of Surrey Scoobies olliebourton335, the passenger Darren Hayes was a promising young biker too and just about to start his race season with DH Racing. Both worked at the Mclaren factory. Exact details of the accident are unknown at the moment. Our thoughts and prayers go to Ollie's and Darren's family. I was chatting to Ollie the other day on the Surrey Scoobies forum about dashboard lights. Ollie May your light never dim.
