anyone use a forester as a family car?
Not really, mine returns 26-34 mpg and puts a smile in my face every time I drive it

What to do while the engine is out?
You could always speak with api and ask what it would take with a standard build or what it would need to get to 350, while it's all apart would be daft not to if it's not much more

Depends what your ecu will allow, mine only had two options open source or a standalone replacement ecu. Yours can be re flashed directly, one of the software companies developed the software and you pay 150 for the licence then map, others like carberry are again open source so you pay for the map

Which bit tom ? Carberry is essentially the same as the other mapping software but no licence required, hence why ecutek and others require you to part with 150quid for the privilage

Brake pads...
Yeah mate don't bother with uprated pads on the rear tge padgid ones you can get are pretty effective, the fronts handle a lot more of the braking anyway go uprated fronts then if your still not happy change the rears later

I do indeed however my 2nd map is for emergency supermarket fuel if i ever get stuck without shell garage, it's an esl board which is only usable for cars up to 1998 so may not be of any use to newer members, have to look at the other options, what year is your car mate ? Carberry open source mapping may be worth checking out, mfnick has it on his sti, think you can have twin maps and will be about 300,
