Not quite a Subaru...

Recommended Posts

Mods, I did ask if I can post up a build thread of this car but if this is in the wrong place, feel free to move it.

So here is my baby, an Alfa Romeo 147 GTA which I've owned since September 8th, 2011. Here's a back story about this car and a brief history of some of the cars I've owned up until now :)

My 1st car was an Alfa Romeo 147 1.6TS, I owned this for 3 and a half years until it was sadly stolen one night, I was given a Corsa B which I used for a month before I hated driving, so tracked down Alfa No2! This ended up being an Alfa Romeo 145 Cloverleaf, I loved this loads, was modded quite a bit but it sadly died from rust.....it was then that I bought my GTA which has been 'fettled' quite a bit but more on that later. For a 2nd car I bought a MK1 MX5 which was boosted quite a bit, was running 300bhp give or take and was a total riot to drive, great fun to drive and surprised quite a few people by looking standard but a little different as well. I sold that as I thought something more sensible might make sense, so bought a Fiat Cinq Sporting which had a Fiat Punto engine dropped in with a turbo slapped on for good measure, this was equally fun and rather quick and I enjoyed surprising many a people over and over again but this also died from rust. I then bought an Alfa Romeo 155 which was okay, nothing special, did what it needed to and got a few looks at the same time.

I also own an Alfa Romeo 75 and an Alfa Romeo 33, both of which are sitting in the lockup as I don't have time to drive them.

That's the recap done so this brings us back to the GTA.

I've owned this 3yrs in September, in that time I've done various bits and bobs to it.

This is what she looked like when I 1st got her, only mod being a different exhaust which I was going to buy myself anyway which was a bonus.

This is where she is now, I won't bore everyone with all the small details of things that I did do and various specs she was in except the spec of her now :)

She's in at the specialist now having loads of work done, including a full front end respray, when she comes back she will be more a less done, spec is as below.

Quaife diff.

ACT carbon fibre plenum.

Ferrari 430 throttle body.

BMC CDA.

KW V3s.

Eibach ARBs front and rear.

Brembo discs all round with Brembo HP2000 pads mated to 330mm 4 pots up front.

Wizard catback

Wizard 100 racing cat and small silencer.

Wizard cat-less manifolds.

Bracing up front and at the rear.

18" alloys just so I can fit Pilot Super Sports in 225/40 size.

And a small sound clip of how she sounds.

I've also got this done which I'll fit when she's back, tempted to do something similar for the Wagon as well tbh...

Always fancied a alfa as my mum used to own a 16 alfasud fairly sure it was flat opposing engine (similar to the boxer engine) and it went really well for a 1.6 .

I used to own a 3ltr 24v vectra (dropped a omega engine in it ) before the scoob .used to pull well on the carriage way made a lovely roar from the v6 with the remus cat back and induction filter .

anyways looks like you're alfas well looked after ,nice work fella

What sort of power is she running ?

I used to own an Alfa 156 GTA back in 2004, in was a 2002 plate in moonstone blue with a rear-whale fin spoiler.

I loved that car, it was like the batmobile inside with all the black piped leather. Unfortunately though, it was a dog of a car that once the warranty ran out I didn't dare keep!

I used to have a 147 2.0l Selespeed.

Well impressed with the car, right up to the point when the engine decided to let go of the big ends for no apparent reason. It had been serviced about 1000 miles before it happened and I checked fluids religiously on it.

To be honest, having bought the car, it was then I was told how dodgy the gearboxes were and I was dreading that breaking, but the box was fine.

Oh yeah, almost forgot about the windscreen wipers. They just decided for themselves if they want to stay on the screen or rub the paint of the 'A' pillars. :)

Nice I like these , my mate had a wide arch kitted up one years ago only a 1.6 tho

I know of at least one 1.6 running around with the GTA body kit fitted, shame the arches ain't flared on the TS.

I'm looking at 285bhp and 270ftlbs, which is a nice rise from standard :)

Is a shame, mine has not broken down once. Saying that, after all the Alfa's I've owned, only broken down once!!

Gabbinano blue on 156GTA is mighty rare too.

i always had a weak heart for the Alfetta GTV

but that's changed over the years including me living in Torino, Italia

That looks lovely!

Yeah they tend to do that the wipers, early signs that the linkage is !Removed!!

Your issue sounds like that a previous owner had ran it very low on oil, by the time you got it the damage had already been done sadly.

I nearly bought a 1.6 just as a run around a couple of years back I like them.

Find a good tidy one with history showing belts and oil changes and you'd be set :)

Currently the GTA is having various things done including a front end respray to sort a few things, one is that I hit a fox early one morning and the ****** cracked the front lower spoiler in several places, was pulling bits of fox out for ages..., two is to get the lacquer sorted, was my fault as was to close with the power washer doh! And three is so I can fit a smaller number plate into the recess they have for Italy so should look spanking :) oh and the fox ripped off the brake pipes under the car grrr.......

But had a call from the guy doing the work saying all the mechanical bits are done and is now in for the front end spray up :)

Look at that engine! Mmmm ! I'd like one just for those shiney pipes haha!

I do have a soft spot for these but the old Alfa reliability stories scared me off haha.

You have to be very brave to own a GTA which tbh, has been totally reliable since I've had her :)
