Local Meet And Convoy Guidelines
I'm not writing that in all the convoy posts you put up lol

First subaru so don't know if this is normal
Welcome aboard, car sounds just like a normal subie to be fair, my air filter makes a noise like death video breathing in, if I let off the throttle slowly the dump valve sounds like him breathing out lol
-
Warning light, what could it be?
I think the best thing to do is find someone who can scan it for you and tell you what the problem is

I find putting it on your chest and lifting up is easiest with a gearbox, put some padding on your chest first though lol
-
How safe (or not) is it to do this
It might just be me, I've been burned by garages before so I'm very dubious
-
New to this
Darn shame but as said at least it's being sorted
-
Newbie
Welcome aboard fella, hope you enjoy your stay, nice motor too, really love white scoobs

Regular drive or weekend car?
What better reason is there that you want to drive it lol

Local Meet And Convoy Guidelines
Well written and thought out, I've found in the past with conveying if a couple of people can invest a few quid in walkie talkies then hand them out to the participants it's much easier to keep track of what everyone is doing as it's dangerous to be looking through your phone book hoping you have the number for at least one of the convoy members, you can retrieve the walkie talkies once you reach your destination

60 kgs isn't that heavy, you can lift a scoob engine with 2 people, I have a bad back but can easily lift a gearbox, it's just 2 bags of sand

No if he's telling you its fine to drive it now, would he buy it off you knowing you've been driving it with a knackered head gasket Or as he works with them, at the moment it's about 2-300 to fix it, when the heads warped or cracked you may as well double that, and the labour is going to double too, if he's going to be fixing it then he will be able to make more money from you the more damage that's done

Tailgate rattle
I'm sure there's some rubber stops on the boot you can wind out so it stops any moving, all I have to do with mine is gently close the boot with no pressure and it shuts straight away on the latch, passes me off as the wife and kids all slam it, but it doesn't rattle when I drive, are the bolts on the hinges tight?

Yeh, has he offered to do the work? I'd be thinking he might be trying to get it more damaged to be able to charge you more for the work

Why are impreza turbos
My impreza turbo is the same price to insure as my mk2 golf gti was, the golf had all mods declared, v6 engine with 210bhp full stainless custom exhaust, coilovers, extremely rare polished dish alloys with a 4" lip, full sound system with over £1200 worth of stuff and corado interior, subie has engine and exhaust mods, brake mods, body mods and sound system, both just over £300 fully comp

Regular drive or weekend car?
Mines a daily, I take the kids to school in it every morning and went to Sheffield to take a mate to buy a new car, I have the wife's performance diesel car if I can't afford juice at anytime but I try and drive the subie as much as possible
-
a little project thread of my turbo 2000
I've never tested the car for power but the guy I got it from said about 300 but personally I think it's more like 250 ish, there's not enough mods to warrant 300 in my opinion

My first subaru :D
Welcome aboard pal, they are supposed to be serviced every 5k or 6moths,most service parts are a doddle to do, plugs are a pain but you get used to it
-
a little project thread of my turbo 2000
There are some websites that have a scale of loudness for different models, there are louder ones than mine but believe me mines surprisingly loud, it may have something to do with 1.4 bar of boost I have going through the system lol, the 007p is the only unit I know of that can be used on a vag engine without throwing up error codes
-
new guy rev limiter??
I know all the classics do but wasn't 100% on newer ones so didn't want to make him look like a tit when he goes to the mapper lol
-
A Massive Congratulations Stanton500
Congratulations guys, nothing in life will touch your heart like the birth of your child, if ever your missus or you are worried feel free to message me, I'll pm you my number, the wife's a nurse and a midwife and we have 2 kids as well, more than happy to help if i/we can

new guy rev limiter??
There's a few mappers based all over the place, Andrew Carr from team Carr is a popular one round here, there's also Andrew Forrest and Jolly Green Monster, the best map for a scoob is a live map, the go out with you on a drive and map to your driving style, I know classics need a piggy back ecu or standalone system but I think later ones can have the standard unit mapped, don't quote me on that though

Dump valves don't do anything for performance they just stop the turbo from stalling so it saves the life of the bearings a few years longer, exhaust wise the equal length will lose the trademark burble but gain you a bit of power, unequal obviously the opposite, if your tracking it go for equal, just road use then unequal, my system only has a back box with nothing at all after the turbo, VERY loud but gets people looking lol, as for forge, mines a forge dump valve and it's a very very loud whoosh from it, the forge ones can be adjusted with different springs so if you change the boost pressure you can adjust the valve to suit

new guy
Welcome to the forum, I hope you enjoy here as much as you enjoy the car, now you have one you won't find anything as much fun

How safe (or not) is it to do this
If your gasket goes and you know as soon as it's gone I'd say drive it home and fix it with just a new gasket and bolts, if you don't know when it went I would get the head skimmed as the more you drive it the hotter it will get regardless of water temp or level, the heat will then warp the head or even worse cracking the head, if you've been driving it since it went I'd get it cracking tested and skimmed when it's off

Baileys valves are the cheapest new valves I've seen and can be problematic with some cars, the black bottle is a charcoal canister for keeping emissions down, should be replaced every 40k but rarely are, just gives a touch better economy when clean, I just pull them out and join the pipes together in most cars, and as for the crystal side lights, the late face lift as you have has the crystal headlights and fog lights as standard from the factory but the crystal sidelights are aftermarket only
