  1. Not a luxury I have
  2. Probably Its the thrust bearing, loads do it, if you let the clutch up and down without ebgaging it you can even play a tune. Mine does it occassionally but usually only when cold
  3. For £30 assuming theyd even sell me the oil, id get them to do it
  4. I get mine done every 6 months. I get the dealer to do it as it only costs £70 and that includes subaru oil and filters. It isnt wirth me getting my hands dirty for the saving I’d make. It’d cost me nearly as much to buy the parts
  5. I’m wondering if its Diesel knock from the injectors playing up, apparently they have a but of AI in them to learn how you drive. Its fine on full tap, sweet as a nut but in town it canbe a bit rattly and as I said the other day it was a proper knock.
  6. Strangly, drive up the same hill today at the same speed in the same gear and not a hint of a knock?
  7. Mine’s a euro 5
  8. Serviced last saturday, sounded like big end if I was to choose, proper deep metallic noise.
  9. Well I towed my caravan to a campsite today, no real problems with the car initially. Got to tge site dropped off the caravan and drove down to shop at the bottom of the hill, on the way back up I had my window open and the engine sounded like I had an irate dwarf trying to chisel his way out of the engine block, it was a really bad knock, not the first time I’ve told the dealer I’ve heard a knock. This sounded particularly bad though. To say I’m slightly concerned is an understatement, at least the drive train is under warranty until the end of the year. looks like I’m phoning the dealer again tomorrow

To be honest, theres not much noise from them, you already get noise from the roof rails.
  11. I use the Bosch aero blades too, fraction of the cost and much better

I just bought a generic set of clamp bars that grab the roof rails from Halfords, cost about £60 with the members discount as I recall, we use them to fit a roof pod.
  13. Just watch out fittIng then is its all high voltage I believe so you have to be a bit careful apparently. Not done it myself so can’t say about cost or ease.
  14. The screen, but it can be switched to the new screen, they MUST however bring a new subaru part gel pad otherwise you’ll have all sorts of problems, don’t let them use a generic gel pad. Just make sure you tell whoever is fitting the new windscreen, we didnt on our first one and it screwed everything up, ended up in a subaru main dealer having the software for the sensors.
  15. It is, I used to visit Costain Construction’s offices there from time to time, then one day that snow happened.
  16. Sorry, not heard of this, if its a 2015 tydn its probably still just in warranty so I’d get in touch with the dealers quick.
  17. The XV is a great car and quite capable off road, but it’s not a landrover
  18. Looks like theyve changed the spec with the new one, so might be different wheels and tyres then, certainly nearly all new XVs in the last few years were on Geolanders, hopefully you’ll get a decent tyre. The new XV is supposed to be a firmer ride anyway, not sure how my XV is pretty bumpy
  19. The XV doesnt come with 18” rims, if youre having 17” it’ll come with Geolanders, sounds like the dealers have made up a special, a dealer not far from use made a “sport” version to boost the chance of selling it i haven’t found the tyre has let me down yet regardless of what gets thrown at it. It probably isnt the best tyre out there for snow etc, but for what we usually get I’ve never found it to struggle even on hills
  20. It’ll probably come fitted with Geolanders, they were purpose designed for the XV by Yokohama, i think pretty much every new XV over the last 5 years came with Geolanders, theyre not bad, ive found them to be quite capable on and off road and in snow and ice, a little noisey on dry road though at speed, and they can feel a little unsettled at high speed on long sweeping bends, but despite that, mine has never lost grip and I’ve tried 😳 i drove mine through a heap of snow back from manchester a couple if years ago and can honestly say they were fine, never felt any doubt that incould get around in them. Plus pretty good at speed on a dry road the XV is even quite good if you get caught oit by a tornado in Stoke! Thoigh that was my wife’s car
  21. We didn’t have any snow except on the access road to the storage. Yes we got a motormover, just pulled up across our storage space and drive it in by remote, piece of cake. Car pulled really well considering we had 30mph gusting cross wind, its got that ATC system so that just sorts itself out. Quite an easy run really. i like the way you make out youre working when really we all know you went for a play 😂
  22. I don’t know about the new XV but mine came with Yokohama Geolanders, which whilst on the pricier side at around £120 a corner were very capable and lasted me 50k miles before needing a change. The geolanders are all season so you may find you dont need to change them straight away. anyway, this is mine, all dechromed from today, picked a caravan this morning.
  23. That’s it done it, got the road block home despite snow, ive and wind (not me, the weather). XV pulled fine, felt stable despite the size of the van and a 30 mph gust now and then. Even pulling into the storage facility it quite happily pulled it up hill through almost a foot of snow.
  24. Not quite as much snow as you but i did it witg a monkey on my back, picked up a caravan today with the XV
  25. I had a problem with mine like this, sometimes it wouldnt unlock at all, took it to Subaru who fixed it even out of warranty, suggesting it was a known fault, might be worth speaking to your dealer?
