  1. Don't be put off by high milers either. I bought mine 3 years ago on 158k mile. Now on 176k mile and I've had it mapped to 276hp. Its done Silverstone and a few runs at santa pod. Worse expense was a gearbox seal (which I sort of broke when crunching 2nd gear, whoops). Had other bits replaced at a cost of £510. Smiles per miles has never been at a better value.
  2. Got a total of 350mi and it took 11.3 gal to fill.
  3. Thread revival [emoji5] Having to use my car for work this week and so far managed 234mi and still have over a 1/4 left.
  4. May I suggest you refresh the bottom end, the heat may have caused damage to the bearings. You wouldn't want to pay out on HG repair for the bottom end to give up a few months later.
  5. Just insured my missus on a 13 plate fiesta ST for £800ish a year. She's only had her full license a month. Only took her near on 6 years to finally take the practical. Passed first time and all that. Called up flux for myself with the scoob. They quoted me 900 with a black box! I'm only paying 650 now with all details identical. Fell off my chair when I heard that.
  6. You'd certainly see blue smoke of it was turbo oil seals. Can you see under the rocker covers? Especially under drivers side near the turbo uppipe. Its a hot spot so usually goes brittle. Run your hand under the cover when cool to give it a good check.
  7. Any oil leaks on the rocker covers?
  8. They might have chucked some head gasket repair gunk in it? Don't know them from Bert but if they're shady enough be careful.
  9. You won't get a true burble from the latest model. It has an equal length header. Great for performance but less so if you want that classic burble. Welcome to the club [emoji4]
  10. "Need" then the answer is no. But it would be a great benefit for the engine, for power and for mpg if you did use premium fuel. I would certainly recommend it. Its not totally necessary standard but if you had it mapped to a specific grade fuel then you would have to keep it on that grade.
  11. Welcome to the forum. Quite the following down in kent.
  12. Start getting everything on paper, emails and make sure you keep copies. You could open up a legal can of worms here. As for just 800 to fix a head gasket I think he's dreaming. Both sides need to be done, you'd be silly to leave the big in its aged condition and having suffered a head gasket failure. Who knows what damage it suffered. Has he included parts and labour for a new timing belt and kit or just gonna reuse the old one? Plan 1 will come to bite you in the back side soon enough.
  13. Geoff, can you send me some deats today if it's not too late. Been lazy and hesitant with this. Committing today.
  14. Who's this melt then!? Welcome to the club. [emoji6]
  15. Flying colours mate. What baffles me is I have a fail sheet with an emission test [emoji23]
  16. Not just a chance, it's an absolute guarantee that you will fail.
  17. Put the car in for an MOT today. Passed that and then went for brake work. Apparently the original threads on the calipers are smaller than the calipers godspeed have supplied. Anyone heard of calipers being imperial thread size or a possible reason? This could all be garage bull of course. Waiting for a call.
  18. Welcome to the club. I'm up in Gravesend. We have a couple of members down your way. We are booking ourselves on the open pit lane at brands on Dec 11th if you fancy it.
  19. A voltmeter or better still ampere meter. That will tell you the state of the batter at that moment. It will give you an indication of its charging well and holding a charge. If you have a voltmeter and find the meter doesn't read 13.5-14.2v when engine is running then it could suggest a alternator issue. If only.ignition is on and you see the voltmeter rapidly drop from 12v then the battery is pooped. It won't always tell you the full picture but gives at least one indication of possible problems.
  20. I went to visit my local Subaru dealer today and considered going for a 17/67 WRX STI. They look nice, not quite my cup of tea but it'd grow. Long story short I can't convince myself to pay the installments for a car that will give me the same experience I get now. It'll be the same smile. So rather than put that money in to a new car that will never actually be mine I want to put it towards my classic. The plan (so far) I want to have an engine built capable of 450hp this won't be a target at all. Simply want the block and bearings to have some leeway when it comes to pushing it. I want internals to be capable of making 400hp. Once ready I want to have it running circa 350hp. I haven't decided on 2l, strokers or 2.5l but it will still be a family car at the end of the day. With the engine done and out the way I need to consider turbo and ECU options. Having some fancy features would be nice from the ECU. In the long run I'd like to stick a 6 speed box in it for both gearing and the extra strength to take the new power. Ideally I want the bodywork sorted and a complete respray, any advice on places to send it? Tips, advice and companies that can complete my work will be greatly appreciated. At this point budget is not an issue but time is. So it's not something that will happen overnight. Cheers all.
