  2. Wotcha and welcome - do you have any pictures to share? we have a few legacy owners on the forum - great cars
  3. part 1 and 2 useful tip for separating gearbox and engine
  4. this could be a baseline for future mods http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-IMPREZA-EJ20-FORGED-BOTTOM-END-ENGINE/181271878080?rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D286%26meid%3D3068468075892758438%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D1048%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D261336607456%26 its not too bad dependant on your experience etc - there are complete videos on ebay showing how to do it and members on here have done several times
  5. 30 day warrenty on this one - located in Warwick http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Subaru-Impreza-Forrester-Legacy-WRX-EJ20-Engine-recon-Warranty-/261336607456?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Cars+Year%3A1997|Model%3AImpreza|Cars+Type%3A2.0+Turbo+GT+4WD&hash=item3cd8e02ae0
  6. if the main bearings have gone it needs either a rebuild or engine replacement the engine replacement is quicker as you change it one for one then you can rebuild at your lesuire unfortunately there is no temp fix which will allow you to drive with the existing situation. you can gamble on something like this - Brum not being too far away http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Subaru-Impreza-2-0-WRX-Turbo-Engine-/261337683178?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cd8f094ea or less of a gamble is something like these with £50 delivery http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-IMPREZA-WRX-ENGINE-EJ20-2-0-TURBO-REMANUFACTURED-/221039413783?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3ASubaru|Model%3AImpreza|Cars+Type%3A2.0+Turbo+4WD&hash=item3376f9ca17 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-IMPREZA-WRX-STI-ENGINE-EJ20-TURBO-STI-2-0-TURBO-REMANUFACTURED-/221039396785?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3ASubaru|Model%3AImpreza|Cars+Type%3A2.0+Turbo+4WD&hash=item3376f987b1
  7. Wotcha and welcome - I wasnt good looking enough for the RAF but was lardy enough for the Navy ;) Keep us posted with the outback I think you will find it a great vehicle, ideal for your requirements
  8. Let me know if you need a hand twirling the spanners as Im local to yourself
  9. Black 05 wrx spec D around 12:30 was it you?
  10. Good luck with the sale - that is a cracking example
  11. Also what the JGM map will give you are options that can be activated that are not standard as you will have a drive by wire throttle fun things like Flat foot shifting Launch control Downshift throttle blip and anti lag ;)
  12. Putting money into cars always carries the risk of not getting a financial return and when selling something you will always get people starting negotiations at a low amount. What exactly do you consider "a decent amount of cash"? and what number RA is it?
  13. ok so my 2p - you come on a subaru forum breaking a subaru - not just any bog standard but an RA, then you specifically state, dont ask me for a price for the car come and see it and make me an offer sorry but you need to give your head a shake the majority of the members on this site - and I stand to be corrected, would prefer to see a car remain intact so I would suggest a better approach would be to start with a price for the complete car and suggest that breaking may be the next stage if a complete sale is not achieved. If you buy a car with the sole intention of making money off it, why dont you buy an appreciating classic and hold onto it or revert this one to standard and have it also as an appreciating classic - speculate to accumulate. what is the number of this RA - as I understand it only 1000 were made??
  14. dont know the film but am quite the evil dead fan - suppose it was going through the evolution of films of that genre ' Groovy ' ;) like 'grind' stuff and then watching Death Proof
  15. complete the service and see if it goes it could well be the oil is not lubing the valves and cams as it should be given what you have said
  16. wrt Petes clue gutted I didnt get that from the first bike picture - I knew it from the second but thats the price you pay for being slow on the uptake :)
  17. Nothing wrong with Castrol oil though
  18. Wotcha and welcome - as Gambit says, a vid may help, and some photos would be great
  19. You should be ok from standard - the ringland failure happened to standard STI's the Type UK version had the prodrive kit dealers mods which included an ECU remap to take it to 330 bhp and included the revised parameters to avoid this situation. The 330 you are looking at will have had this done from the start so should be all fine, as Pete suggested check the history and enjoy
  20. inspect your coil packs as well before buying plugs - I think someone mentioned No.4 coil has been known to break on some Fossies
  21. If I remember the advice was to check the voltage level from your 02 sensor as disconnecting the MAF resulted in your car immediately stalling
  22. We had some issues with data - some of it is now missing, unfortunately a back up didnt work as it was supposed to - hopefully fixed for the future
