  1. So, a new thermostat, radiator cap and radiator- still getting coolant thrown into the overflow! The bottom rad hose is staying cold, I'm still hoping (praying) it's just a bad air bubble in front of the thermostat! It's looking more likely I'll be washing my car at JapShow (if I make it at all)
  2. Plus the one behind the steering wheel! Sorry, terrible I know but I couldn't resist. I'll see myself out...
  3. It's not been all that bad to be honest, I've managed to get parts cheap from other forum members and luckily we've been able to do all of the work ourselves I daren't count up how much I've spent... I just keep counting how much I could've spent if someone else had to do the work!
  4. I had a new radiator and thermostat fitted, hopefully this will cure the problems I've been having. I've also bought a few little bits to tart up the engine bay, a performance air filter and a heater matrix.
  5. I actually got something right?! Makes a nice change. I won't try and jump ahead of myself... But would bleeding opposing corners help? For example; OSR, NSF, NSR, OSF?
  6. Reason being, (or this was true for my car) your ecu should have a sort of default running setup which it uses if it's not getting any info at all from somewhere. However, don't run it for too long like this as you can end up with it running lean, which can cause a whole world of very expensive problems
  7. Quick thing to try... Disconnect the MAF- if the idle improves its almost definitely your split pipe.
  8. Just a thought... Don't subarus have a cross over braking system type thing, so if it fails it stills works on two opposing corners? Could there still be a bit of air in the line on the or something on the opposite corner, causing it to over compensate?

  10. The top of the rad is hot for the first couple of inches, then stone cold? I'll get a new thermostat too just to cover all areas.
  11. Hopefully I can get a new radiator tomorrow and get it put in. That gives me friday and Saturday after work to get it looking slightly respectable for Sunday
  12. Still didnt seem like all the air was out of the coolant... Still had water throwing itself into the overflow and the engine getting too hot. Then felt the hoses- top hot, bottom cold. Checked the radiator for cold spots. Most of it was cold! On the upside, I'm keeping the mileage very minimal
  13. Engine is in and running (again). No signs of oil leaks- still having trouble getting all the air out of the cooling system. I think short journeys and parking facing uphill over the next few days should do the trick. Also praying it's not the head gasket!
  14. Should be about 4 hours... I'll have to leave home at about 3:30. I'm sure it'll be well worth it though
  15. Cel is 'check engine light' I have to say, subarus are really quite easy to work on once you know what's what. This forum is a massive help- in my ownership since March, I've amazed myself with what I've learnt.
  16. Oh yes, sorry- and welcome to the club!
  17. A split in the intake hose would cause no boost- there wouldn't be enough pressure to spool up the turbo, due to the air leaking out of it. I had some really badly split intake pipes on my car and it caused no boost and really awful running. But it's best just to check the whole system over while you're there
  18. The rain stopped at about 12, cracked on and the engine's nearly ready to come out. Mind you, we've had enough practice now.
  19. Ah I see, I stand corrected. Blimey, that is good going. That works out about 38 pence every 100 miles for each tyre (if I've got my maths right).
  20. Ouch! Bmw/mini by any chance? I've just got up ready to start getting the engine out (sense of déjà vu here) and it's raining. !Removed! typical!
  21. Engine forward, purely for your own comfort. But on a non turbo it should be relatively straight forward.
  22. I'll be leaving home at about 3:30... I'm sure the neighbours will love that!
  23. I got mine from my local car parts place but it's this one here... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sealey-VS0043-Automotive-Coolant-Filler/dp/B00BTYPB9Q Seriously worth the money
  24. ah, unfortunately I can't make that- it's JapShow on the Sunday!
