I reckon you'd be more than happy with a wrx the sti's are nice but they command higher premiums all round, not even sure what groups the wrx &sti are in these days, basic mods like a remap and exhaust shouldn't effect the price it's when you start changing brakes and other bits the insurance companies start to have a fit, plenty of specialist companies around that will cover you for a reasonable price,

Classics could be picked up well under budget but may require some money putting in to tidy it up, bugeyes are are the least loved so should be able to get a reasonable one and you may see a few blobs just creeping under budget . New age cars are generally seen to be better daily drivers due to being a bit comfier,my advice would be to look at as many as you can to get a feel for what's good or not

I should think so, or at least for the same year impreza, most bushes are the same across the whole range for the same year, have a look at the whitline web page as it always list all compatable vehicles for the manufacturer, if they do then you should be able to buy form other companies with confidence that they will fit
