Piston slap ?
Hi mate, mine slaps like it's going to jump out the engine bay. But mines a my97 with 130k on and the 97 cars have the worst reputation for doing it, the piston skirt design was changed after. Car uses no oil at all and I've put full & semi synthetic in over the last couple of years, At 42k I wouldn't expect yours to slap too much. What oil are you using & any mods done have you had the belts changed yet ? Could be the belt tensioner if you look on YouTube there's vids showing it makes a knocking noise when worn

Big Hello
Hehe I don't Co ordinate much as everyone left my area ! There's a company somewhere down south that does a proper job, they take your car for a couple of days steam clean the underside dry and apply etc. It's not cheap about 500 ! But it lasts and is a worthwhile investment, whoever did mine did such a good job that the 1st time my mechanic looked under it he commented on how well it's held up and looks rust free. I had mine mapped as it was over fueling due to running on lower octane, i'm now getting alot more mpg 40 quid got me 250 miles this weekend of hard driving, before map it would have got halft the mileage , also slight increase in power and lots more torque.

Lower strut Bolts?
Yep that's the ones I thought you were on about. They should be easy enough to get hold of, deffo make a paint mark on them and the leg then at least you'll know they are back there and there abouts,

Lower strut Bolts?
I take it you mean the two smallish ones that attach the strut to the hub ? The ones the front are cambered, not sure about the rears, but you need to mark the position of them before removing. Chances are if you buy them you won't use them and if you don't you know they'll shear off ! Just soak them in plenty of wd or similar for a few days should be reet !

Boost controller advice
Wow 2 bar ! You not even getting any fuel cut from the ecu ? Any idea who mapped it in the 1st place ? I'd look at getting it on the rollers and a possible tweak to the map as boost controllers need to be mapped in anyway for them to be efficient. Has the car had any internal engine mods ?

Lower strut Bolts?
Try import car parts they should have or be able to get or point you in the right direction

Big Hello
Check it's been under sealed if it hasn't get it done before winter as it will greatly increase the life of the car. Vpower or tesco momentum/sainsbury s super is only way to go. Running on low octane will increase the risk of detonation. May be worth looking at getting it mapped for UK fuels
-
Unequal headers fitted
Dave left to start up on his own so he didn't leave on good terms, Harry is new tec with Martin, good lad full of banter too. Remapping isn't as essential on n/a cars as the lambda sensor sound alter the trim and there's no turbo spooling issues etc May actually loose some performance due to less back pressure in the system with decat n/a cars
-
Unequal headers fitted
Just Martin, dave is no longer ! Post a pic up gem be interesting to see how they look compared to the turbo headers

What have you done to your Subaru today ?
Haha yeah been following some old duffer doing 40 single lane for about 10 miles in Nat limit, came to roundabout knew he was in wrong lane on exit hoofed it 4k hit 1.2bar then nothing then back on, cars only mapped to 1.1 Wasn't too bad as there was no one else around and as soon as it happend I knew what was going on, no dash warning lights so knew it couldn't be that bad [emoji51]

What have you done to your Subaru today ?
Hit the biggest speed hump in the world this afternoon thought the shock tower was gonna come through the bonnet. Been to Huddersfield this eve for tea at friends. Got cut up by some knobber in a 55 plate celica driving like a c**t managed to split him And his mate (**** 1.4 clio) at a set of lights by Coincidence. So clio boy decided to ride my bumper for a mile towards the m62 celica boy was waiting for me & him at a lay by beofre the slip road, let me pass then continued to harass me round the roundabout. Why do these people bother ? Wet roundabout and a long drag up onto the 62. Needless to say when they finally caught up they weren't too happy and were wanting to have another go,

Buying advice 04 Forester XT
The suspension has probably been changed due to the sls units dying, so the original suspension is probably useless, however if you don't like the coil overs they are the same for the impreza so you could sell on for around 400 depending on which bc's they are, and get after market regular ones for cheaper than 1 sls unit from subaru ! you can tell by looking at other cars that have sls fitted they look like a dog scraping it's bum along the floor when they have gone. Heads are dependant on how the cars been looked after, driving on boost when the cars cold will kill them pretty soon, however the pic you posted the chap has a classic in the background so I reckon he knows what he's doing with them. Don't expect much change from a grand for the heads doing from a specialist double that at least from a subaru dealer [emoji33] it's easier as an engine out job but can be done with the engine in situ, don't be put off by this as there's loads out there that have seen over 100 on the original gaskets. Parts and a skim of the heads aren't that expensive it's the labour that's a killer. Wheel bearings tend to be a bit of a weak spot but you'll hear that on a test drive, also a slight clunking from the front end may occur, I've changed shocks, springs, top mounts, anti roll bar bushes and droplinks and it's still there ! If it doesn't sound to loud and nothing is falling apart I wouldn't worry too much. If you plan on keeping the car for a long time a remap may be the way to go, outlay is again around 500 but mines already paying me back in fuel, I used to get around 75-100 miles out of 25 litres it's now up to about 150 miles, Long trips are even better, saw just over 22miles out of 40 quids worth of petrol last week [emoji51] ah and i find the turbos only really run well on vpower if it's an 05 tax should only be around 280 as opposed to the 55 rate of 500 [emoji26] Suppose if it's worth it is up to you, how it drives what smiles it puts on your face and costings add up.
