What made you...
I think this is a really good question that warrants its own thread to capture the posts and make it easier to find in future

Non turbo bonnet on turbo car?
yup agree with Marmite opinion of lifters - if you need to get air out I prefer the modified bonnet option - the engineer in me always looks at them and thinks something isnt fitted correctly

advice on bulbs
I ran the 150w h4's but they are only used as a high beam on the hatchback - very effective for the chelsea tractors and big Audis that seem to think it is their God given right to drive around on high beam all the time :D

mfnicks Blobeye Impreza
Sometimes it all mounts up and comes at once like that - had a simllar thing on my 200sx years ago - turbo rebuild (which was initially diagnosed as valve stem seals so full reefurb with head skim was done) followed by x2 tyres followed by gearbox and clutch... very dented bank account

What fuel do you put in?
always shell vpower or BP super unleaded - gets more mpg and a smoother throttle response

looking to get some new brakes
mintex pads are good have used them in past with Tarox grooved discs but they did wear out quite quickly - I found EBC pads to have the same performance but better wear - have also used Black diamond discs and had improved performance over OEM with those - I would recommend fitting braided hoses if you are still on standard rubber ones particularly if the car is a few years old. 5.1 fluid as well http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/frame-detail.asp?PAGE=/black-diamond-brakes.htm
- Bad steering wheel wobble!

What made you...
looked at a number of cars EVO etc, drove a mates blobeye STI but missus wanted a hatchback - final deciding factor was a pretty woman moment at an Audi garage over an A3 quattro, chap wouldnt let the missus test drive it until xyz blah blah blah great piece of karma there as having since been in an A3 it pales by comparison :D

My build/conversion project
great story so far - Savage you Tlag and others all sharing on the forum means its there for comparative novices like myself so even if it is news to the more experienced its great info and I learn something new :) Im filing it all away for my dream 22b rep, gobstopper homage :P

Braided lines do make a difference to feel particularly if the OEM rubber ones are a few years old - help address fade as well under more spirited conditions :P

Legacy Spolier :)
drilled dissipates heat, grooved shaves glazing off the surface of the pad to maintain friction. With the NA car you have I think you could get great results with just grooved. I have not used MTEC and they say they machine the discs themselves I would like to know where the discs are made - slightly paranoid but its one of the few things I dont skimp on - I need to have confidence my vehicle will stop when I pull the lever or stomp on the pedal. So rightly or wrongly I do go for branded replacements if not going OEM.

Newbie with scooby wrx sti
yup cant go wrong with either, yellow will probably wear out faster than red dependant on your driving style

Non turbo bonnet on turbo car?
aaahhh ok then does indeed look like that would be the case so if you do want to ditch the scoop fit a FMIC, replace the scoop with a grill and do away with the vents. - I suppose you could go the way of drift style bonnets and have fins in the centre to duct air away from the engine from the front intake but unless you have major engine mods which means running at higher temperatures this might be a step too far. and certainly not the subtle approach you describe / desire I know some of the modded impezas run a small intake / scoop on the filter side to duct cold air down to the engine intake so a cold air feed might be something to consider

New headlights and interior lights
Being a rufty-tufty northern belle I dare say you had no real issue with that - how many tools were hurled across the drive in the process?? :D
-
Non turbo bonnet on turbo car?
I don't think you would have a problem making one if you did choose to remove the scoop. As Tlag said go for the FMIC and you don't need the scoop - a grill replacement would then help to shift heat - ala drift / GT cars I would be interested in looking into the legacy comment - why no holes - is it due to more under bonnet space - perceived buyer of the legacy not giving it the beans as much as an impreza owner??

New headlights and interior lights
wayhey check that out - great job Gem, you are certainly putting your mark on your vehicle :)

Induction kits for Subaru Impreza GX non turbo
Wotcha and welcome, As you are not increasing the capacity of the engine or how much gas and air will be flowing through it to a huge degree by changing the exhaust I would follow Matts advice, get a good high flow panel filter, Cosworth, K&N, Pipercross, etc - an oil free one would be best as to not screw up your MAF. If you would like to mod further look at brakes and handling packages or loosing weight that way you make the most of power to weight ratio
