  1. great story so far - Savage you Tlag and others all sharing on the forum means its there for comparative novices like myself so even if it is news to the more experienced its great info and I learn something new :) Im filing it all away for my dream 22b rep, gobstopper homage :P
  2. Braided lines do make a difference to feel particularly if the OEM rubber ones are a few years old - help address fade as well under more spirited conditions :P
  3. Wotcha and welcome - tidy motor that let us know how you get on driving it ;)
  4. Wotcha and welcome - as the fuse has not blown that would rule out a wire shorting to earth somewhere so echo what Gambit has said check your connections
  5. drilled dissipates heat, grooved shaves glazing off the surface of the pad to maintain friction. With the NA car you have I think you could get great results with just grooved. I have not used MTEC and they say they machine the discs themselves I would like to know where the discs are made - slightly paranoid but its one of the few things I dont skimp on - I need to have confidence my vehicle will stop when I pull the lever or stomp on the pedal. So rightly or wrongly I do go for branded replacements if not going OEM.
  6. yup cant go wrong with either, yellow will probably wear out faster than red dependant on your driving style
  7. aaahhh ok then does indeed look like that would be the case so if you do want to ditch the scoop fit a FMIC, replace the scoop with a grill and do away with the vents. - I suppose you could go the way of drift style bonnets and have fins in the centre to duct air away from the engine from the front intake but unless you have major engine mods which means running at higher temperatures this might be a step too far. and certainly not the subtle approach you describe / desire I know some of the modded impezas run a small intake / scoop on the filter side to duct cold air down to the engine intake so a cold air feed might be something to consider
  8. Being a rufty-tufty northern belle I dare say you had no real issue with that - how many tools were hurled across the drive in the process?? :D
  9. I don't think you would have a problem making one if you did choose to remove the scoop. As Tlag said go for the FMIC and you don't need the scoop - a grill replacement would then help to shift heat - ala drift / GT cars I would be interested in looking into the legacy comment - why no holes - is it due to more under bonnet space - perceived buyer of the legacy not giving it the beans as much as an impreza owner??
  10. wayhey check that out - great job Gem, you are certainly putting your mark on your vehicle :)
  11. before and after shots are always welcome ;)
  12. jeez that has come up clean - great job body work looks to be in top condition
  13. Wotcha and welcome, As you are not increasing the capacity of the engine or how much gas and air will be flowing through it to a huge degree by changing the exhaust I would follow Matts advice, get a good high flow panel filter, Cosworth, K&N, Pipercross, etc - an oil free one would be best as to not screw up your MAF. If you would like to mod further look at brakes and handling packages or loosing weight that way you make the most of power to weight ratio
  14. The side indicators are in your wing mirrors so I dont think that applies to yourself - its more if you have the older orange lenses that were fitted to the front wings you could get clear replacements an example here http://www.just-subaru.com/my00-02-crystal-clear-design-side-repeaters-72963-0.html Stick up some photos of your motor in a thread an canvass opinion, If I am right your motor is the non turbo version so focus on brakes and handling, get it driving how you like it As Gambit suggested some tints for the windows as they look good on the one in the photo
  15. I like that though its a no half measures car designed to stick as much down force over the back end as it can - reminds me of the Jap GT racers,
  16. bottom line - unfortunately its money
  17. Ill go find a sampler and see what they smell like chum and also make sure they dont react with me, love the smell of Joop but 20 minutes after I put some on it reacts and I smell like rampant tom cat pee
  18. I try and match pairs as the same make / tread pattern as what happens with mismatched patterns is they work against each other and wear out faster. dependant on how much wear is on the rest of the tyres eg if they are near new just go for the one of the same make / tread pattern if they are past half way I would replace the pair
  19. Wotcha and welcome - As Stanton says there are a number of options but could you confirm some of the details :)
  20. ferrous / sintered pads will go through metal discs - its metal on metal - great stopping power but it does wear - same principle as I mentioned earlier, you want great performance you will get it but at the cost of replacing components earlier which is fine as long as this is understood. also mintex - used them with Tarox grooved discs and goodridge braided hoses years ago, transformed the brakes, great performance but they wore quickly - no fade at all with that setup
  21. Are more regular oil changes the solution or is there any merit in changing oil pumps?
