  1. Wotcha and welcome. Wrt to selling I was in a similar situation to yourself so struck a deal with a local trader and he got a fixed fee for the sale, I got hassle free sale As you said high mileage is no issue if looked after but buying second hand will always be a gamble where ever it comes from. XT's are desirable motors so good ones dont hang about and be prepared to travel for the right motor. Later models have a 2.5l engine as opposed to a 2.0l this gives slightly more power and low down torque. There have been issues with ringland failure on some 2.5l lumps - I dodnt have an issue and many others havent but oil starvation & detonation have been blamed for the failures. It comes down to the material subaru used in its pistons. Manual vs Auto - yes the manual is slightly faster 0-60, it is the same with my impreza, the auto will have a manual esq mode which enables you to change between the four gears. Which should you choose, entirely down to driving style - if you like stirring the gearbox an auto is not going to give what you want even with the semi auto option selected. Keep us posted as to your progress
  2. easier to replace the unit - plenty of more modern options with phone compatibility etc
  3. Wotcha and welcome - plenty of mod options - depends on budget, intended use etc,

  10. wotcha and welcome - info on scoobies here and no that import motor you are considering is a peach
  11. Wotcha and welcome - sorry to hear this - does sound like a rebuild / replace is necessary - how many miles on the clock + which transmission oil did you use?
  12. got every sympathy with you, did that a few weeks back when someone had parked opposite my drive and I screwed up the turn - refurbed all wheels now and that look spot on
  13. bargain - wouldnt fit my current hatch but makes me wish I still have my STI!!
  14. yes taht little selection dial does put a smile on your face
  15. Yup Cosworth are a reputable brand
  16. wotcha and welcome - running on the 99 ron stuff vpower etc will give better MPG and the shell stuff will keep all your tubes clean. There are good quality after market parts for your motor nnow so keeping it on the road will be a lot easier - stainless steel exhaust systems etc taht have lifetime quarantees, given your location might be worth looking at a second set of wheels and having some winter tyres fitted so absolutely no issues all year round
  17. Wotcha and welcome - decisions decisions as throughout teh thread - hold out for an STI, bolb will probably be your best option.
  18. Wotcha and welcome - if you decide to startg changing keep a camera handy and feel free to start a project thread
